Friday meeting preview
Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.
Form is never black and white and definitely not an exact science.
However, everything does seem to fall into place on occasion and it’s always nice when good form is franked between runs.
And OLIVER certainly ticks those form boxes in race 3 on the card.
The 5YO had been having excuses for some seemingly poor efforts but went very close to winning last start over the mile when just beaten by SITUATION who has subsequently won very well again in a solid Class 4 field over 1400m.
Ergo, OLIVER and connections should have the confidence to go forward and with a CS Chin 4kg claim, he should be extremely hard to run down.
CAIRO (race 6) also has some ‘franked’ form to his name after placing behind KRATOS when resuming over 1000m in Class 4 at his last start.
KRATOS won very well in Class 3 over 1000m at his next start and given CAIRO has subsequently trialed well and will be improved with race fitness, he should be extremely hard to beat.
Anyone looking for value on the night may consider CAVATINA in a weak Class 5 field (race 6) while a debutante in AROUND THE WORLD could show up on the back on an eye-catching trial in race 2.
Best Bets: (OLIVER race 3, win), (CAIRO race 5, win) and (CAVATINA race 6, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 6 (1, 5 and 7), race 7 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7), race 8 (1, 2, 3 and 5), race 9 (2, 3, 5 and 9).

Selections; 5 TRIGGER MAN - 3 GOLDEN MILE - 7 HOT GOLD - 2 CASTLE QUEEN
A red hot Class 5 field with plenty of Class droppers and at least three others that can win on recent form in this Company. Of those that will find the drop in Class to their liking, TRIGGER MAN probably has the best form and Nunes replacing a claimer looks a significant move. GOLDEN MILE will also relish the Company and also gets a senior hoop in M Rodd who just missed when on-board in a similar affair three starts back. MORALES is the other Class dropper that wins without surprising although BIG GUARDIAN will also grow a leg in this Company but should need longer to show his best. HOT GOLD and CASTLE QUEEN are two horses with their proverbial feet on the till in similar affairs while BARNBURGH LAD could give a sight out front and might sneak out to odds in this good field.
1 BIG GUARDIAN ** Will grow a leg dropping to Class 5 and could surprise but like to see over longer. 33
2 CASTLE QUEEN *** Drawn awkwardly but in form and a big show in what is a suitable race. 4.00
3 GOLDEN MILE *** Also drawn wide but form better than it reads, drops to winning Class and right in this. 5.00
4 MORALES *** Ran on OK late in better Company than this and comes under notice with V Duric up. 9.00
5 TRIGGER MAN *** Has the best form of the Class droppers and hard to hold out with Nunes replacing a claimer. 4.00
6 AURORA AUSTRALIS * Maiden who will appreciate Class 5 but should need longer to win. 33
7 HOT GOLD *** Keen when leading and hanging on to place last start similar affair and wins this without surprising. 6.00
8 MINGS MAN ** Showed last start why Class 5 is his caper and right in this from gate 2 with winkers added. 8.00
9 RED RACKHAM * Struggling. 200
10 BARNBURGH LAD ** Finds it hard to win but has pace and in this a very long way. 12
11 GALLANT HEIGHTS * Traffic issues last start but like to see over longer. 50
12 LADY LIBERTY * Not at her best of late and prefer others. 33
13 CASSIS OOLONG * Showing signs of late but needs a weaker race than this. 50
Selections; 7 AROUND THE WORLD - 9 MASTER OF MALIBU - 3 JADE DRAGON - 1 DISCRETELY RED
The good news is we can put a line through five runners in this Maiden event but the bad news for punters is that any of the remaining seven can win. Five of those have local race experience and three of those - DISCRETELY RED, O'REILLY STAR and ABLE PINS - all had support last start and were disappointing not to place. DISCRETELY RED and O'REILLY STAR did run on well though and can win if handier in running and ABLE PINS does get a slight gear change and should improve on his debut effort. JADE DRAGON and ONLY WIN both ran on at odds last start and both should figure late again with JADE DRAGON very much appreciating the better gate. Two newcomers seriously appeal though and AROUND THE WORLD put in an eye-catching effort at his Official Trial and he can win on debut, as can the former Argentinean, MASTER OF MALIBU, who looked very comfortable at his two local trials.
1 DISCRETELY RED *** Never likely before running on with support last start and goes close if handier in running. 6.00
2 O'REILLY STAR *** Another that had no chance before running on late with support at their last start and pay to follow. 6.00
3 JADE DRAGON *** Did it tough from wide gate last start and the effort late good enough to win this from better draw. 10
4 BEST DREAM * Impossible on form. 200
5 ZOLVED * Gets blinkers and gate 1 but need to improve lengths before considering. 200
6 ABLE PINS *** Very disappointing with support at Singapore debut but should improve for the run with the run under his belt and blinkers added right side. 5.00
7 AROUND THE WORLD *** Impressed when running on very well at Official Trial and can win on debut. 5.00
8 ONLY WIN *** Grew wings late last start at long odds to just miss and pay to follow. 6.00
9 MASTER OF MALIBU *** Former Argentinean who has impressed at the trials and should run a big race at Singapore debut with support likely. 4.00
10 KEEP WINNING * No. 200
11 MIRACLE KID * Beaten a long way into fourth last start but can improve again with racing. 50
12 MAKE U FAMOUS * No. 200
Selections; 4 OLIVER - 1 STORM TROOPER - 5 SACRED SURFER - 3 LIM'S ARCHER
Everyone loves franked form and there might not be better franked recent form than that around SITUATION. The 3YO beat OLIVER by a nose two starts back over 1600m in Class 4 and subsequently bolted in over 1400m in the same Company. Today, OLIVER gets a 4kg claimer from a good gate and you would expect he goes forward and is extremely hard to run down. It is a good field though and LIM'S ARCHER - Lee Freedman's first runner in Singapore - should keep him company out front and showed more than enough to think he can also win. SACRED SURFER gets blinkers and has shown enough at his two starts in Singapore to think the headgear will make a difference while STROM TROOPER very much appreciates dropping back to Class 4. Plenty of others to consider in exotics including HUMDINGER and WARPATH to name just two.
1 STORM TROOPER *** Very much appreciates being back in recent wining Company and will be working home late. 12
2 TARAMEA * Struggling. 200
3 LIM'S ARCHER *** Raced on the pace last start and just missed and expect much the same. 6.00
4 OLIVER *** Just got pipped over the mile last start and that form has been franked. Big show from gate 3 with claim. 3.00
5 SACRED SURFER *** Never involved before running on well last start and could race handier with blinker added so keep very safe. 5.00
6 WARPATH ** Ignore last start on the Poly over 1100m as always an each-way show in races like this. 6.00
7 HUMDINGER ** Showed last start why this type of race is his caper and another to follow each-way at value. 8.00
8 STAR KING ** Last run better than the result and could be ready to improve at odds. 33
9 STEEL CUTTER ** Ran on well last start on the Poly and should be better suited back on the turf at odds. 33
10 ACROSS THE SEA ** Not the type to win out of turn but hard to fault very honest form of late and 1400m no issue. 7.00
11 FUNKADELIC * Reassess in Class 5. 200
Selections; 1 ALFONSO - 2 PERKINS - 8 DRAGON - 6 KEY ON KODIAC
There looks less than a handful of chances in this Class 5 1800m Poly event and ALFONSO gets his chance. The 8YO was beaten a length by PERKINS last start over 1700m and, given he is 3kg better of at the weights, he can make up the deficit. In saying that, PERKINS has won his last two on the Poly and no reason to jump off the bandwagon just yet. Both wins have been with CK Ng on-board and the 3kg claimer stays on and must be respected. The only other horse with serious winning credentials is DRAGON who has been running on super of late and he could be extremely hard to hold out in this weak field. Of the rest, KEY ON KODIAC wasn't far away last start behind PERKINS and ALFONSO while GALAXY EXPRESS will be in the exotic mix.
1 ALFONSO *** In form and showed more than enough last start on the Poly to win. 3.00
2 PERKINS *** Won at his last two starts on the Poly and happy to follow stepping up to 1800m although does have extra 3kg to carry. 3.00
3 SUN FORCE * Distance suits but Poly form a serious concern. 33
4 GALAXY EXPRESS ** Not a mile away last start and did win this trip and track back in April so keep safe. 12
5 POWERFUL AS WIND * Out of form and hard to consider. 33
6 KEY ON KODIAC ** Maiden who placed behind Perkins over 1700m last start and pay to follow. 8.00
7 MOON RIVER * Hard to have on recent form. 20
8 DRAGON *** A long time between wins but worked home very well similar affair last start and hard to hold out here. 4.50
9 HOLY THOMAS * Easier to ignore. 33
10 GRAND PARIS * Battled away last start but has one win in 48 starts and needs to improve. 20
Selections; 1 CAIRO - 2 GREY FALCON - 7 DECRETO - 5 ON ELECTRIC AVENUE
Another race where the top pick - CAIRO - has some serious franked form to his name and looks hard to beat. The 5YO has always shown ability and resumed with a very good run behind the smart KRATOS. KRATOS stepped up to Class 3 Company and won well again at his next start and given CAIRO has subsequently trialled very well, he is the one to be on. He will need to be on his game though with GREY FALCON in very solid form and did it tough enough to place last start to think he wins again sooner than later. Last start maiden winner, ELECTRIC AVENUE, has shown previously he is competitive in Class 4 and will be in the mix throughout while DECRETO with blinker/pacifiers added can also win on the back of a very good trial.
1 CAIRO *** Resumed with very solid effort and that form has been franked. Subsequent trial very good and hard to beat. 3.00
2 GREY FALCON *** Did it tough on the pace last start and a repeat of that effort will have him in the winning mix. 4.00
3 SUPER HERO * Form better than it reads but wide gate makes this tough. 20
4 ZIPPY GENERAL * Drawn wide and prefer on the turf. 50
5 ON ELECTRIC AVENUE *** Broke maiden status last start but had previously been more than competitive in Class 4 so has to be considered. 6.00
6 LUCKY SIX ** Surprised at odds over 1200m this Company last start and have to respect. 20
7 DECRETO *** Freshened with a very good blinker/pacifier trial with and can win with headgear added. 7.00
8 EURO ZONE ** May need Class 5 to win but should be competitive with winkers added. 12
9 HAYTHAM ** Disappointing with support in a weak field last start and have to take on trust. 12
10 ELITE GOLD ** Maiden who has changed stables. Has a Poly placing to his name but should need easier with tongue-tie added. 20
11 SATELLITE PRINCE * Reassess in Class 5 over longer. 200
12 AMAZING MAN ** Hampered early but ran on late last start and can include in exotics. 15
13 MONGOLIAN CHIEF * Needs easier and longer. 33
Selections; 1 CAVATINA - 7 PERFECT CHALLENGER - 5 BEST JADE - 6 MILLION ROUND
A terrible race and hard to be confident of finding the winner given the indifferent form from the top three picks. Case in point is PERFECT CHALLENGER who mixes his form like a bartender mixes cocktails. But the 7YO just missed last start (with a gap to third) in a similar affair to this last start and you have to respect that form. Likewise, BEST JADE can be tough to follow but has looked due of late. But he was only fair with support last start and that is a worry as he will be close to favourite again in this field. So with question marks over these two, CAVATINA gets his chance. The 4YO has drawn wide but loves the Poly, will find this field to his liking and should go forward and be hard to beat. Market best guide on the likes of MILLION ROUND but pay to go easy in this tough race.
1 CAVATINA *** Wide gate a concern but not a mile away last start and this field is weak. 10
2 WITHOUT PREJUDICE * Maiden who struggles as a rule. 50
3 AMERICAN SNIPER * Top senior rider a factor but impossible on form. 20
4 JOYOUS ** Race weak enough to consider but Poly form a concern. 9.00
5 BEST JADE *** Just battled away with support last start but does look ready to win and gets his chance. 3.50
6 MILLION ROUND ** Not a mile away last start and pay to keep an eye for stable support. 12
7 PERFECT CHALLENGER *** Just missed last start in similar affair and gets his chance. 3.00
8 WALTERS BAY ** Maiden who wasn't a mile away last start this trip and track but wide gate is a concern. 20
9 DRAGON RUBY ** Has been running on OK at his last couple and can include in exotics. 12
10 KING CROSS ** Tough run last start and battled on but worth thought at odds on start prior. 20
11 BOHEMIAN * Back in trip and struggles on the Poly. 200
12 BASTION ** Long-term maiden who ran on well last start and should figure somewhere on a repeat of that effort. 8.00
13 LAM EDITION * Struggles as a rule. 200
14 THINK PRETTY ** Not a mile away last start and can include in exotics in this weak field. 33
Selections; 2 ARAMCO - 3 CYBORG - 6 LIM'S SHOT - 5 ECLIPSE SPLASH
The best race on the card by the length of the Long Course (A) straight and with so many horses in good form, we can expect a very frenzied punting affair. And while this is his biggest test to date, the punters may make ECLIPSE SPLASH the favourite. The former Malaysian is gunning for a hat trick of wins (and five from seven since crossing the border) and he will be prominent throughout with Harry Kassim retaining the winning ride. But two horses that have crossed swords in better company than this in ARAMCO and CYBORG will be hardest to beat. ARAMCO resumed with a very good run in the Garden City Trophy and that effort over 1200m may give him the edge over CYBORG who resumes after a solid run in the Rocket Man Sprint back in March. Others to watch include LIM'S SHOT, CLARTON SUPER and MIGHTY KENNY to name just three.
1 LASER STORM ** Plenty of excuses last start on the Poly so can ignore and keep safe on best form over 1400m. 20
2 ARAMCO *** Honest and will be running on well at the business end. 5.00
3 CYBORG *** Progressive type resuming after good campaign and had enough trials to show up. 6.00
4 CLARTON SUPER *** Can make excuses for not finishing closer last start and hard to fault form prior. Recent trial was good and can win. 5.00
5 ECLIPSE SPLASH *** Four wins from six starts since crossing the causeway and should give a sight again. 5.00
6 LIM'S SHOT *** Has been in terrific form since blinkers went on three starts back and can win stepping up to 1400m. 5.00
7 MIGHTY KENNY *** Honest and won two starts back over this trip so have to consider. 12
8 ONE RAR * Nothing last start and prefer to watch back in trip and on the turf. 50
9 DINGHU MOUNTAIN ** Looked to have every chance last start but showed enough to keep safe. 12
10 BATTLE OF TROY ** Always a show over 1400m and may appreciate lightweight in tougher Company. Value. 20
11 TERMS OF REFERENCE ** Having a rare turf run but honest and has shown previously he will be competitive this trip. 20
Selections; 1 ETTIJAH - 3 SIAM SAPPHIRE - 5 RIVER GOLDEN - 2 SOUTHERN SPUR
Another nice race - this time a Class 4 on the Poly over 1200m - where four last start winners head to the start. True, two of them won in Class 5 and will find this tougher, but ETTIJAH and SIAM SAPPHIRE look the real deal and can win again as they progress through the grades. Both horses won well last start and both obviously get a weight penalty, however, ETTIJAH was impressive and gets to jump from gate 3 which is a huge factor in this type of race. SIAM SAPPHIRE will need some luck from the widest alley but hit the line well last start and expect much the same. Of the others with winning hopes, RIVER GOLDEN (nee River Gold) put in an eye-catching effort late last start and will be a very good value option here while SOUTHERN SPUR is worth another chance with blinkers and tongue-tie off with gate 1 a bonus.
1 ETTIJAH *** Has 3kg more to carry but won very well similar affair last start and hard to beat again. 3.00
2 SOUTHERN SPUR *** Blinkers/tongue-tie off after looking to have every chance last start with support but happy to give another show on big run prior. 8.00
3 SIAM SAPPHIRE *** Got the favours last start when winning very well in similar affair last start and pay to follow although wide gate an issue. 5.00
4 FALKIRK LEAD ** Last start better than the result and did look due prior. Could be value. 12
5 RIVER GOLDEN *** Late River Gold. Always a show and worth serious though at value on eye-catching effort late last start. 20
6 STAR INVINCIBLE ** Beaten a long way into second last start but was very solid to the wire and expect much the same. 10
7 RICH FORTUNE ** Never really involved last start with support but always some show on the Poly. 10
8 SPECIAL RAIN * Just battled last start in this Company and wide gate makes this tough. 20
9 PRATT STREET ** Up in Class but last start win was good and was competitive prior in this Company so can include in exotics. 12
10 LUCKY MISSION ** Also coming off a Class 5 win but was more than competitive in this grade prior with market a good guide. 12
11 SOLITAIRE * Can run on when in the mood but may need easier with visor off and tongue-tie on. 20
12 DESERT FOX ** Just battled last start and has drawn wide but has looked good at a couple of recent trials so keep safe. 33
13 DICAPRIO ** Just missed last start in Class 5 and will add value to exotics. 20
Selections; 5 ACE KING - 2 RED CLAW - 9 BROTHER WIND - 3 SECRET WIN
An interesting race to finish the nine race card with a winning hope resuming after a long spell and a couple of others with gear changes after poor runs. The winning hope resuming is ACE KING who now resides in the stables of Ricky Le Grange. The 4YO was impressive when winning on debut in November last year but frustrated with heavy support when only placing at his next three. His recent trials are good enough to think he gives this a shake with support likely. The two Dan Meagher runners in RED CLAW (blinkers on) and SECRET WIN (blinkers off) both get gear changes after poor runs but both go very close on form prior with the market a good guide. BROTHER WIND back on the turf also wins without surprising and go even wider if having an exotic bet.
1 MUSCLE BEACH ** Will win in this Company sooner than later but may be a better option on the Poly. 12
2 RED CLAW *** Blinkers straight back on after poor run and was due prior in similar affairs. 6.00
3 SECRET WIN *** Another Meagher runner who disappointed last start so gets a gear change - blinker off - and can win on form prior. 8.00
4 MR MOSA ** Last run probably better than the result and can race handy enough to consider. 12
5 ACE KING *** Smart type resuming after frustrating run out placings with heavy support. Plenty of trials and can win. 3.40
6 NINETYSEVENEMPEROR * Needs to improve on recent form. 50
7 PREFERRED ** Finds it hard to win but very honest and have to consider each-way at a rare turf run. 8.00
8 MAGNETISE ** Appreciates first up run where he ran on OK late and may improve at odds. 33
9 BROTHER WIND *** Will very much appreciate being back on the turf and a big show in a race that suits. 4.00
10 LIM'S GREETING * Loomed momentarily last start but looks to be needing easier than this. 33
11 CLUTHA LAD * OK last start but the Poly over longer looks his caper. 33
12 GET GOING ** Refuses to win but always a show and could sneak out to value. 2
