Friday meeting preview
Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.
It’s a Hari Raya public holiday in Singapore on Friday and as such, a bumper ten-race standalone meeting at Kranji is on offer for punters.
Some tricky races early suggests we should keep an eye on the tote for stable support or punter confidence but later in the day, a Class 3 Poly sprint over 1000m (race 9) looks a beauty.
WEBSTER, with two impressive wins from just three career starts probably headlines the capacity field but, while it would be tempting to put the progressive 4YO down as a special, the race has depth and includes another three last winners.
Of those, KRATOS resumed with a solid Class 4 victory to take his career tally to two wins and four placings from seven career starts and, given all his runs have been over 1000m, he obviously goes super over this trip and is the testing material.
MR LUCK with five Poly wins also comes under consideration while POLE PARADISE and SPLINTER are both in form, more than handle the Poly, and win without surprising.
Elsewhere on the card there looks to be plenty of value about with KATE’S KEEPER very much appreciating the step up to 1800m in Class 4 Company (race 4) while JUSTICE FIRST could knock in his first Singapore win with blinkers added over 1200m on the Poly, also in Class 4 (race 6).
Remember it’s a day meeting and let’s hope we find a few holiday winners!
Best Bets: (HOSHIKO race 10, win), (KATE’S KEEPER race 3, value) and (JUSTICE FIRST race 6, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (3, 4, 5, 10 and 11), race 8 (1, 4 and 6), race 9 (1, 3, 6, 9 and 10), race 10 (1, 2, 3, 4 and 7).

Selections; 2 ENERGIZER - 7 MISS WAIMATAITAI - 4 SUPER ACE - 1 DREAM BIG
One of the better Class 5 fields seen of late but a tough one for punters to start the holiday meeting with most of the field having some hope. What makes it extra hard to find the winner is a few of the horses at the top of the ratings - DREAM BIG, ENERGIZER and SIR REGINALD - are all having their first starts in Class 5 so should improve on some seemingly poor recent form. Of the trio, ENERGIZER will very much appreciate the good gate and should be prominent throughout while DREAM BIG gets blinkers and could show up at odds on the back of a good trial with headgear. As mentioned, most others can win with MISS WAIMATAITAI too honest not to think she is in the winning mix while SUPER ACE gets Nunes back and that counts of plenty on recent form. TEMBUSU ESTRELA and EASY DRAGON just two others that win without surprising.
1 DREAM BIG *** Impossible on race form but will find Class 5 to his liking and improves lengths on the back of a good trial with blinkers added. 33
2 ENERGIZER *** Another maiden who will improve in Class 5 and very much appreciates gate 1. Big show. 8.00
3 SIR REGINALD *** Form reads badly and drawn wide but drop to Class 5 should see support and a forward run. 8.00
4 SUPER ACE *** Went close two starts back in maiden Company and has a placing in Class 5 and right in this with Nunes back on. 6.00
5 TEMBUSU ESTRELA *** Broke maiden status in fine style last start in this Class but this field is tough and drawn wide. 7.00
6 EASY DRAGON *** Only win was this Company over the mile and in this a very long way from gate 4. 12
7 MISS WAIMATAITAI *** Honest, in form and plays a prominent role in this. 4.00
8 NOVA SPIRIT ** Disappointing with support last start but always going to be some show in Class 5 with upgrade to blinkers. 8.00
9 HEE'S FORTE ** In the mix without being a threat at his last two but gets a chance from gate 2 with handy claim. 20
10 LUCKY COMMAND ** Long-term maiden status obviously a concern but getting closer and have to respect. 8.00
11 SHE'S THE ONE ** Maiden who has been running on of late and gets blinkers so pay to keep safe. 20
12 SMIDDY BYRNE * Ignore last start and could add value to exotics if budget permits. 50
Selections; 1 D'GREAT STAR - 6 WHITE TRUFFLE - 5 TUN O'REILLY - 7 ANTHEIA
Nothing jumps off the page in this small Restricted Maiden field, which gives D'GREAT STAR a big chance to break through. The 3YO went close on debut on the Poly before two just fair turf runs but given his most recent start was in the Golden Horseshoe, he might be better than a few of these and can win. Of the other raced brigade, the filly ANTHEIA had excuses last start and the junior jockey was questioned so she gets her chance with Vorster on from gate 1. Two newcomers appeal on trial form with both WHITE TRUFFLE and TUN O'REILLY capable of winning on debut with the market a very good guide.
1 D'GREAT STAR *** Has speed and will find this easier than the Golden Horseshoe. Big show. 2.00
2 EASTIGER ** Plenty of trials under his belt - the odd one OK - but like to see support before considering. 12
3 EVIL TRAIN * Showed nothing at debut but fitter for the run and gets senior hoop. 20
4 SATELLITE ROCKET ** Excuses at both starts and showed enough to consider in this weak field. 6.00
5 TUN O'REILLY *** Official trial solid and worth thought on debut with market watch in order. 6.00
6 WHITE TRUFFLE *** Showed enough winning Official trial to win on debut with support likely. 6.00
7 ANTHEIA *** Excuses and jockey questioned last start and gets her chance from gate 1 with senior hoop. 8.00
8 HALLELUJAH * Shown little at the trials and prefer to watch. 33
Selections; 1 KATE'S KEEPER - 11 SUN HANCOCK - 4 TARGET - 3 OPTIMUS
An odd race where the top weight is in solid form at best while the bottom weight is flying but the difference in Class may tell. KATE'S KEEPER is the highest rated horse in the race and while just battling of late, he showed enough last start to think he will be prominent throughout in this field and may be hard to beat over his most recent winning trip. The bottom rated horse is SUN HANCOCK who until four starts ago, was a 23 start maiden! Three wins and a second placing later and the 4YO mare has obviously hit form and she will go forward under Zaki and could give a big sight with no weight. Plenty of others win without surprising including KOKONI, OPTIMUS, TARGET and O'REILLY BAY at value.
1 KATE'S KEEPER *** Improved effort last start in similar Company and step up to 1800m suits with forward showing expected. 6.00
2 KOKONI *** Ran on well late to win over 1400m last start and pay to follow although will need race to suit swoopers. 4.00
3 OPTIMUS *** Did it tough before returning not striding last start over the mile so pay to give another chance in what should be a suitable race. 6.00
4 TARGET *** Led and battled on well over the mile last start and expect much the same here. 5.00
5 HIGHER SOUL ** Returned lame last start but works into this late if right with 1800m in his favour. 33
6 LAUGHING BUFFALO ** Never really a chance last start but ran on well to win maiden two back and worth another look. 20
7 BLACK SWAN ** Placed in KSD Company last start and will battle away in this field. 12
8 O'REILLY BAY *** Form better than it reads and recent trial solid. Can go forward and give a sight at odds. 20
9 APOLLO ** Won in Class 5 two starts back before battling away last start but gets blinkers and can include in exotics. 12
10 MATSURIBAYASHI ** Battling away without being a threat in this Company but 1800m has him some hope at odds. 12
11 SUN HANCOCK *** This is tougher but has hit a purple patch of form with three Class 5 wins and pay to follow. 8.00
Selections; 1 NORTHERN SUN - 12 CHOCANTE - 6 HOWL - 8 MR HOPKINS
Another extremely tricky affair where the market will give us an extremely good guide especially on the newcomers who have varying trial form to consider. Case in point is CHOCANTE who trialled well enough and gets blinkers for his race debut. Vorster with just 51kg looks a handy combination in this field and he could be hard to hold out. Likewise, MR HOPKINS and HOWL have both shown enough at the trials to win on debut with senior hoops from fair gates giving them every opportunity. Of the raced brigade, NORTHERN SUN gets his chance to break through. The 4YO was handy when improving last start and a repeat of that effort will have him in the winning mix. BRING ME JOY is also worth another look (excuses last start) and market best guide on the rest.
1 NORTHERN SUN *** Improved and was prominent throughout at second start in Singapore and goes very close in this. 4.00
2 BRING ME JOY *** Disappointing last start on the Poly but jockey did report not striding (no finding). Worth another look on close up effort prior. 8.00
3 GIN GO GIN * Blinkers off and no. 100
4 RIVER FORTUNE * Gets tongue-tie but needs to show much more. 33
5 AEOLUS ** Solid without being a threat but should be running on if race run to suit. 10
6 HOWL *** Had numerous trials and best effort was with ear muffs so have to seriously consider with that gear on. 6.00
7 LIM'S MAGIC * Drawn wide and shown nothing at local trials but has Boss so market best guide. 20
8 MR HOPKINS *** Trialled solidly and gets M Rodd. Big show on debut. 5.00
9 NIMITZ * Another newcomer with no local trial form to go on and drawn wide but gets top rider. Watch market. 20
10 YULONG HOLY FLYING * Nothing at Singapore debut but may appreciate gate 1 with that run under his belt. 20
11 GANGNAM CLASSIC ** Improved effort last start and has trailed well since so can consider. 10
12 CHOCANTE *** Improved effort at recent trial and worth serious thought with no weight. 6.00
Selections; 1 PARAGON STAR - 3 SUN SEEKER - 4 THOTH WARRIOR - 6 RIKIOH
A very ordinary Class 5 Poly dash over 1000m and it may be a case of buyer beware with most runners disappointing as a rule. In fact our top pick - PARAGON STAR - finished seventh as the even money favourite at his last start, which doesn't instil much confidence. However, he gets a tongue-tie and will find Class 5 to his liking so gets his chance. SUN SEEKER drops to Class 5 and drops back in trip but has shown enough to be a show in this field with a market watch in order. Nothing else really appeals although SPIRIT SEVEN resuming may be good enough for this with while THOTH WARRIOR trials well enough to think he has to be better than what he has shown at the races. Drink please!
1 PARAGON STAR *** Disappointed as even money favourite last start in RM Company but gets tongue tie and can win in Class 5 Company. 3.00
2 SPECIAL LUCK ** Maiden who hung out badly last start and form prior just ordinary but could improve in Class 5. 20
3 SUN SEEKER *** Back in trip and down in grade. Has shown enough to consider. 6.00
4 THOTH WARRIOR ** Race form hopeless but trials well and must be better than Class 5. Keep safe with tongue-tie off. 12
5 SPIRIT SEVEN ** Resuming sans tongue-tie after some OK efforts over longer. Market best guide. 12
6 RIKIOH ** Issues last start and gets blinkers and always look some show this trip. 12
7 GOLDEN SPARK ** Form reads badly and coming off a shocker but recent trial OK and could surprise in this weak field. 20
8 FLYING MISSION * Freshened with OK recent trial but was struggling and easier to ignore. 50
Selections; 11 SHAQRAA - 8 SHOQEET - 2 JUSTICE FIRST - 7 SECRET SQUIRREL
The Al-Arabiya Stable is certainly having an impact in Singapore of late and the owner’s look to have a big hand in this Class 4 race with both SHAQRAA and SHOQEET winning shows. Not much separates the pair although SHAQRAA has exposed solid form in Class 4 Company and should get very possible chance from gate 2. In saying that, SHOQEET broke his maiden status in fine style last start and looks to be improving with experience so has to be a big show. Of the rest, JUSTICE FIRST could be the value runner given his recent form in the race book. But he gets blinkers and has had excuses of late so well worth a look with M Rodd to ride. SECRET SQUIRREL has drawn wide but does look due and market best guide on the rest including the two emergencies and ASTROJET at value sans blinkers.
1 HADES ** Freshened after poor run but always some show in races like this so keep safe. 8.00
2 JUSTICE FIRST *** Excuses at his last couple and happy to think he is ready to win with blinkers added first time. 12
3 BOARD WALK ** Wide gate a concern but always an each-way show in this type of race. 12
4 MADE IN CHINA ** Freshened after a shocker on the turf but have to consider on debut win on the Poly although will need luck from wide gate. 12
5 WINNING TANGO ** Has pace to burn and drawn the ace but 1200m may test in this Company. 6.00
6 ASTROJET ** Freshened with nice enough trial sans blinkers and could surprise at odds. 33
7 SECRET SQUIRREL *** Drawn badly but showed enough last start in easier Company to consider on only winning surface. 6.00
8 SHOQEET *** Ran on well to break maiden status at start two and pay to keep following. 4.00
9 GOLD MOSA * Maiden who needs easier. 200
10 HONOR ** Broke maiden status when resuming in Class 5 last start but this looks much tougher. 20
11 SHAQRAA *** Honest and gets another chance from gate 2. 4.50
12 BORN A FIGHTER * Won a weak Class 5 race last start and that Company looks his caper. 33
13 OPTIMUM STAR ** Did it tough last start over the mile and not the worst dropping back to 1200m. 20
14 PARKER *** Flew home to just miss over 1100m last start and have to respect on that effort. 12
Selections; 11 AMISTAD - 5 GOOD LUCKY - 4 SUPER BIG - 3 JOYOUS
Nothing jumps off the page to win this Class 5 (division 2) over 1400m and while a few have some solid recent form to their name, a couple of recent good trialers in AMISTAD and GOOD LUCKY appeal. Both have gear changes - AMISTAD looses blinkers and GOOD LUCKY gets a tongue-tie - and the pair have also shown enough of late at the races to think the changes could make a difference. The usual suspects include JOYOUS and SUPER BIG who will both be prominent throughout while TENMA look well placed in this field to show up with O Placais to ride.
1 DESTINY KNIGHT * Need longer again to show his best. 100
2 DARCI'S BOY ** Coming off two shockers but did place the start prior this trip and blinkers off won't hurt. 12
3 JOYOUS *** Can lead and always some show this trip, track and Class. 8.00
4 SUPER BIG *** In form and only win was this trip three starts back. Big show. 6.00
5 GOOD LUCKY *** Never involved last start so happy to forget as big show on form prior with a good recent trial under his belt with tongue-tie added. 4.00
6 ARCHER COMPANY ** Placed at odds two starts back this trip and track but exotics do look best. 33
7 EDEN GARDEN ** Maiden who will be running on late but will need race run to suit swoopers. 10
8 BIG REGARDS ** OK with support last start but yet to place in 14 starts so take on trust. 8.00
9 MARGAUX * Nuisance value only. 50
10 TENMA *** Never involved last start but happy to follow on form prior in this weak field. 8.00
11 AMISTAD *** Tough to follow but recent trial sans blinkers looked good enough to win a race like this. 6.00
12 CAPTAIN CLASSIQUE ** Yet to place in some 22 starts but in solid form of late and will be prominent throughout. 10
13 ALADDIN * Battles away late but not for me. 50
Selections; 6 MILITARY ALLIANCE - 4 LUCKY BOY - 1 PRECIOUS GEM - 2 ROCKET FIGHTER
A terrible Class 5 Poly mile and as such an in-form horse ready to win in MILITARY ALLIANCE gets his chance. The 7YO's only win in Singapore was over the mile in Class 4 (albeit a few years back) but his recent form suggests he is ready to win again and more importantly gets to jump from gate 2 with a handy 3kg claim. Nothing jumps off the page to beat him although LUCKY BOY is also in form and may appreciate stepping up to the mile while PRECIOUS GEM could also grow a leg stepping up to a suitable trip. You could also consider the maiden ROCKET FIGHTER at his first attempt in Class 5 with a market watch the order of the day.
1 PRECIOUS GEM *** Not seen often on the Poly but appreciates stepping up to 1600m and pay to keep safe. 8.00
2 ROCKET FIGHTER ** Query on the Poly but appreciates Class 5 Company and 1600m may suit. 12
3 ASPEN * Distance suits and blinkers off but Poly form a concern. 12
4 LUCKY BOY *** In form and may appreciate step up to the mile with blinkers removed. 4.00
5 ANY RUMOUR ** Showed improvement last start over 1200m and step up to more suitable trip may see a result. 12
6 MILITARY ALLIANCE *** Foot on the till and looks very well placed the trip from gate 2 so hard to beat. 2.00
7 THE ONE * Led and faded last start. Yet to place in 12 starts. 33
8 GOLDEN JADE ** Battled away to the wire last start so may appreciate stepping up to the mile. 20
9 NATURAL WATER * Improved at very long odds in weak field last start but easier to ignore. 50
10 PURE WHITE * Maiden who struggled last start and not for me. 33
11 URBAN LEGEND ** Can run on when in the mood and could add value to exotics. 33
Selections; 9 WEBSTER - 10 KRATOS - 6 SPLINTER - 3 POLE PARADISE
A highly competitive Class 3 and the wild card is WEBSTER. The 4YO has been freshened after showing plenty of promise in three outings and while he did not show up at his recent trial and is up in class, he gets Manoel Nunes and a good gate - watch for support. KRATOS resumed well when winning, he has a good poly record at this trip and should be up to this class; he is still improving and will be hard to run down. POLE PARADISE just missed in stronger class over this trip three starts back and was caught wide before running on last start; he should be handy throughout and can be in the finish. MR LUCK returned not striding out freely last start and has trialled since; he is suited by this distance and his previous poly effort was strong. The chances don't end there with the consistent SPLINTER in good form while RED DAWN is consistent and suited by this class.
1 MR LUCK *** Missed start and returned not striding out freely last run and has trialled since. Suited this distance and previous poly effort was strong. Can show up with senior rider aboard. 6.00
2 RED DAWN ** Consistent and suited this class. Would prefer 1200m but should be closing late. 8.00
3 POLE PARADISE *** Just missed in stronger class over this trip three starts back. Caught wide before running on last start. Should be handy throughout. 6.00
4 SUPER SIX ** Raced wide throughout last and not helped by the gate again. 16
5 MCGREGOR * Best efforts have been on turf over longer. Might find these too sharp. 33
6 SPLINTER *** In good form. Awkwardly drawn but should be prominent throughout. 8.00
7 PURE JUSTICE * Saved ground and ran on from last to narrowly win a moderate Class 4 last start when resuming. This is harder but should be improved and will be running on late. 16
8 SUPER LINE ** Raced wide throughout and battled on when resuming this class and distance. Should be improved at each-way value. 16
9 WEBSTER *** Freshened after showing plenty of promise in three outings. Up in class but gets Manoel Nunes and a good gate. Watch for support. 6.00
10 KRATOS *** Resumed well. Has a good poly record at this trip and should be up to this class. Will be hard to run down. 4.00
11 NOVA WARRIOR ** Returned not striding out freely last start and having first outing for new trainer. Well drawn and could show up on best form. 20
12 UNSURPASSED ** Up in class after narrow win over 1100m last start. Has speed and no weight but not helped by the gate. 33
13 LUMINIFF LAD * Has disappointed since resuming. Needs to improve. 33
14 EFFORTLESS * Won on turf three starts back but most recent efforts poor. Has won over this trip on poly and could show up. 25
Selections; 2 HOSHIKO - 1 WINNING MAN - 4 RAINBOW ROYAL - 7 SPECIAL KING
Another competitive Class 4 but this one of moderate quality. HOSHIKO won a similar race last start and given he gets a 3kg claim, he carries 0.5kg less and from the good gate will be hard to run down. SPECIAL KING showed promise as a juvenile, was supported last start but copped a bump early and hung out; he can improve from the good gate. WINNING MAN's recent form poor but he will appreciate a drop to his winning class and distance and also gets a nice gate. BARNATO returned a roarer last start but has trialled nicely since; he won over 1100m in this class three starts back and carries 3kg more but should be prominent throughout. Of the others RAINBOW ROYAL was slowly away last start but has been racing soundly since resuming for new trainer Saimee Jumaat; with Craig Grylls to ride he should be running on late. One to watch might be DRAGON LIVELY who is resuming and trialled soundly; he is better in weaker company but this is not a strong race.
1 WINNING MAN *** Recent form poor but will appreciate drop to winning class and distance. Can improve from the good gate. 6.00
2 HOSHIKO *** Won this class and distance last start. With 3kg claim carries 0.5kg less than last start and from the good gate will be hard to run down. 4.00
3 BARNATO *** Returned a roarer last start but has trialled nicely since. Won over 1100m in this class three starts back. Carries 3kg more but should be prominent throughout. 6.00
4 RAINBOW ROYAL *** Slowly away last start and had tough run so effort good and can win on form prior. 8.00
5 LIM'S SINCERE ** Resuming after some moderate efforts but trailing well and gets some gear changes. Has speed and distance suits but not helped by the gate. 16
6 RUN IT TWICE * Never involved at first poly outing and gets 4 kg claimer. May need turf and easier. 25
7 SPECIAL KING *** Bumped early and hung out last start when supported. Showed promise as a juvenile and can improve from the good gate. 5.00
8 PEACE WANTED * Placed at Werribee over 1415m from four starts in Australia. Trial was only moderate and poorly drawn. Watch market. 25
9 IMPEDIMENT * Has shown nothing in three outings. Wants easier. 33
10 SATELLITE PRINCE * Dropping back in trip and looking to get back into class 5 over 1600m. 33
11 LIVELY DRAGON ** Resuming and trial was sound. Better in weaker company but this is not a strong race and distance suits. Should be prominent for a long way. 8.00
12 LIM'S SIGNATURE * Resuming and trial was moderate. Won Class 5 prior to break and may be better there but could show up fresh. Watch market. 16
13 AMAZING MAN ** Hampered early but ran on late last start. Better over longer but could show up in this field. 12
14 SOON YI * Looking for Class 5. 33
