Enable, Winter and Almanzor entered for Ascot on October

Stars galore have been entered for Qipco British Champions Day, with outstanding fillies Enable and Winter, plus last year's Ascot hero Almanzor, among those who could run in the season-ending showpiece event on October 21.

Although still over two months away, the promotional push for the fixture started in earnest on Wednesday when it was revealed the winners of 83 Group 1 races and 16 European Classics feature among the possible starters for the major prizes being staged on Britain's most valuable raceday.

Almanzor, who swept to Champion Stakes glory in 2016, is this season primarily being aimed at the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, but he has also been given the option of returning to Champions Day, this time being staged an extra week after Europe's premier race.

Trainer Jean-Claude Rouget, who has also entered the Arc-bound Prix du Jockey Club winner Brametot in the £1.3 million Champion Stakes, said: "I have yet to make any decisions, and we will know more after Almanzor’s comeback race on August 15 in the Prix Gontaut-Biron.

"He satisfied me when working last Tuesday and although he won’t be 100 per cent fit, I’m hopeful of a good performance."

Enable holds entries for both the Champion Stakes and Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes, while Winter's is entered in those two races as well as the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien said: "It’s a brilliant meeting, but it’s tough. It's very competitive and all of the good horses from the whole year are lining up."
