C Murray was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Monday, 17 July 2017 and to expire on Thursday, 27 July 2017 on which day he may resume race riding.

After the 800 Metres, ACCESSION YEARS was left racing wide and without cover and making the turn near the 550 Metres got its head on the side, lay in and brushed TRENDIFUL which became unbalanced. TRENDIFUL then hung out, resulting in ACCESSION YEARS being taken wider and both horses then racing wide and without cover.

When questioned, Apprentice H N Wong (GIANT STARS) stated that he had been instructed to attempt to give the horse clear galloping room in the Home Straight. He said as tonight’s race was being conducted on the A course, he felt that he may have difficulty securing uninterrupted running were he to continue to make a run on the inside of horses at the entrance to the Straight and as GREAT JOY, which he expected to be a strong chance, was being shifted to the outside of runners to make its finishing run, he elected to shift out with that horse so that GIANT STARS would be able to make its run towards the outside of the field. He said this resulted in GIANT STARS only momentarily having difficulty obtaining clear running shortly after the 300 Metres.
After the race, B Prebble stated that WORKS OF ART became unbalanced in its action shortly after entering the Straight when giving ground abruptly. He said for this reason he eased the horse down over the latter stages of the race. A veterinary inspection of WORKS OF ART immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, WORKS OF ART will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Close to the finishing line, FUNNY BUDDIES was shifted out away from the heels of GOOD COMPANION which raced tight outside FOX SUNTER.
Throughout the race, FUNNY BUDDIES travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding his riding of EMPIRE STAR over the concluding stages, C Y Ho stated that he had been required to ride his mount continuously throughout the race to ensure that it was able to be as competitive as it could. He said in the early part of the Straight he shifted EMPIRE STAR to the outside of runners and immediately commenced to place the horse under pressure including using the whip on the horse whilst at times riding it along vigorously hands and heels. He said EMPIRE STAR worked home satisfactorily in the Straight and as the horse was giving its all, he did not believe that it was necessary to use the whip vigorously over the concluding stages. C Y Ho was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he must ensure that he rides his mounts out with sufficient vigour all the way to the end of the race.
A veterinary inspection of REGENCY HONEY immediately following the race found that horse to have a small amount of blood at the right nostril. An endoscopic examination of REGENCY HONEY deemed that horse not to have bled.

He said he was also told that if ACE KING did not show sufficient early speed to lead, it was acceptable for him to take a position with cover behind the leaders. He said, as is often the case, ACE KING was fractious in the barriers and reared and then as the start was effected began only fairly. He said as there were a number of horses, which were drawn better than ACE KING, being vigorously ridden to obtain forward positions, he did not believe that ACE KING would have sufficient early speed to be able to lead, therefore he elected to shift the horse across and obtain cover albeit further back in the field than had been intended.

He said JOLLY CONVERGENCE was left racing in a three wide position with cover after being unable to cross GENERAL IRON to its inside and the horse travelled only fairly in the middle stages. He added rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight JOLLY CONVERGENCE did not quicken as it had when ridden by him in the past and then did not finish off the race. 1. 9 July 2017 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 9 (787)
The Stewards tonight questioned S Clipperton regarding his riding of PRAWN BABA, particularly approaching and passing the 600 Metres. S Clipperton stated that it had been explained to him that PRAWN BABA is one-paced and benefits from a truly run race. He also stated that he was instructed to ride PRAWN BABA positively in the early stages to take up a prominent position and to ensure that the horse was provided with clear and unimpeded running from straightening. He said the middle stages of the race were run at a good tempo, however, the pace of the race slackened after the 1200 Metres. He said passing the 800 Metres when racing behind GREEN DISPATCH and inside BASIC TRILOGY, PRAWN BABA appeared to come off the bridle and he had to ride it along from the 800 Metres to ensure that PRAWN BABA maintained its position behind GREEN DISPATCH. He said as PRAWN BABA is one-paced, he did not wish to be left racing behind GREEN DISPATCH and BASIC TRILOGY after the 600 Metres as he felt that the horse would have its best chance if he were to make the race into a staying test as he did not believe he could outsprint ROCKETETEER if PRAWN BABA was not able to establish a margin over that horse. He said for these reasons he commenced to ride PRAWN BABA aggressively from the 600 Metres to ensure that the principal chances in the race would have to make ground on PRAWN BABA whilst also ensuring the race did not become a sit and sprint race. He added whilst this resulted in PRAWN BABA having to be ridden along earlier in the race than would normally be the case, he believed that riding the horse in this manner would give it the best opportunity to finish in front of the principal chances in the race. Mr J Size, the trainer of PRAWN BABA, confirmed the instructions given to Jockey Clipperton and stated that, after reviewing the race and all the circumstances of the race, he was satisfied with Jockey Clipperton’s riding of PRAWN BABA.
