Friday meeting preview

Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

An excellent Friday night card greets punters on what looks a very solid weekends racing with plenty in interest in some very promising types.

WALKING THUNDER certainly fits that bill in race 3 tonight with Dan Beasley up after knocking in his maiden win at his second race start.

He went off at the shortest quote on that occasion and while some people may query the quality of the field, he won like a good horse should and it’s also worth noting he placed behind the Guineas winner in Forever Young on debut and that form has to hold up.

In the lucky last, LIM’S DASHING also looks a progressive type that will be well worth following through the grades.

The 4YO had excuses before making up ground late over 1200m at his last start – just his sixth – and can make amends and win over 1400m with Dan Beasley retaining the ride.

While no star, his Lim stablemate, LIM’S BATTLE, looks extremely well placed to win in Class 5 with blinkers back on over a more suitable trip (race 4) and again, D Beasley gets to steer.
The affable Aussie also rides ABSOLUTE MIRACLE in race 7 on the card and he also looks hard to beat from gate 2.

A good night for promising horses and a good night for Danny Beasley.

Best Bets: (WALKING THUNDER race 3, win), (LIM’S BATTLE race 4, win) and (OCEAN GENERAL race 6, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 6 (1, 3 and 7), race 7 (1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 10 and 11), race 8 (1, 2 and 5), race 9 (1, 4, 5, 6 and 9).

Race 1

A race with little depth and three horses - ALPHANOVA, AURORA AUSTRALIS and FAREES - look the obvious picks. Of the trio, FAREES has shown more than enough at two starts in Singapore to win this. The Australian-bred 3YO has also given the impression that the extra 200m will be in his favour and he will be hard to hold out with M Kellady to ride. ALPHANOVA is in very solid form and gets his chance in this field with V Duric from gate 2 a good combination while AURORA AUSTRALIS resumes after a year off the track but his form from his previous campaign coupled with some nice trials suggests he can win first-up. The big improver may be KOKONI who appreciates a solid debut and has trialled well enough sans blinkers to keep safe.

1 HIGH STREET * Race form ordinary but could improve with blinkers added from good gate. 20
2 KOKONI *** Appreciates solid debut and trials OK sans blinkers so worth a look at odds. 20
3 GREAT SEVEN ** Nothing last start on Poly but not a mile away two back this trip and track. 12
4 ALPHANOVA *** Foot on the till and gets his chance in this weak field back on the turf. 3.00
5 AURORA AUSTRALIS *** Resuming after long break but previous form was good and recent trials suggest he can win. 6.00
6 DREAMER LEGEND ** Thereabouts as a rule and appreciates first up run so a must for exotics. 12
7 HOLY THOMAS * No. 100
8 NATURAL WATER * Nuisance value only. 50
9 FAREES *** Shown enough at two starts in Singapore to think he wins soon with 1400m ideal. 4.00
10 MAJULAH ** Excuses two back when blinkers went on and improved to place last start and worth following on that effort. 12
11 AEOLUS ** May need longer to show his best but gets tongue-tie added from gate 1 and has to be included somewhere. 8.00
12 ISTANA * Needs further to show his best. 33

Race 2

A very interesting Restricted Maiden where you can make a winning case for six runners and forget the rest. The problem is that you can look at the form from six different angles and get six different winners so the market might be a very good guide on the day. As it stands, ONLY WIN is the best of the debutantes on exposed trial form and can win with G Boss to jump from gate 4. NOVA CLASSIC, THE ODDS and MAGIC CITY all improve on solid debuts with excuses and all should be involved late. The most obvious pick is JUSTICE LIGHT who has placed at his last two and wins without surprising while BEJING STAR improved to place last start (albeit well beaten by Tannhauser) and is worth following.

1 JUSTICE LIGHT *** Drawn awkwardly but looks ready to win and this field is weak. 6.00
2 COUNTRY BOSS * Had support two starts back but disappointing as a rule. 20
3 OBSTACLES FREE * Should improve with racing and may appreciate the turf but easier to ignore. 20
4 CONFOUND * Freshened and back in trip but has struggled. 33
5 BEIJING STAR *** Beaten a long way into second when blinkers went on at his last start but that form will hold up here. 8.00
6 EL CONDOR * Hung out badly on debut but should improve with race experience. 20
7 GIN GO GIN * Not on what we saw on debut. 100
8 LIM'S REUNION * Nothing at local trials so would need support before considering. 33
9 MAGIC CITY *** Very much appreciates solid debut and can win this with Nunes from gate 3. 4.00
10 NOVA CLASSIC *** All sort of excuses on debut and happy to think he has something to offer in this field. 6.00
11 RIVER FORTUNE * Prefer to just watch on exposed trial form. 50
12 THE ODDS *** Ran on well at race debut and another that improves enough to win this. 6.00
13 ONLY WIN *** Trials have been good enough to win on debut with G Boss onboard. 6.00
14 SIX EMPIRE * Would need support on exposed trial form. 50

Race 3

While we think there are four or so horses that are ready to win a race like this on recent form, WALKING THUNDER looks extremely hard to beat. The 4YO placed on debut behind Forever Young (and hasn't that Group winning form held up!) before getting blinkers and smashing them as the $1.20 red-hot favourite at start two. He will start odds-on again and looks a horse to follow through the grades. Keeping him honest are HADES, BARNATO and RICH FORTUNE, while a maiden in DRAGON KINGDOM - who started as the even money fave in this Company last start - could be the biggest danger to WALKING THUNDER.

1 HADES *** In form and handles the Poly so must be seriously considered. 6.00
2 RICH FORTUNE *** Disappointing last couple but goes better when ridden forward and pay to keep safe. 12
3 WALKING THUNDER *** Broke maiden status in fine style with heavy support when blinkers went on and very hard to beat again. 1.80
4 FALKIRK LEAD ** Appreciates first-up run and competitive on his day. 20
5 BARNATO *** Improved last start, recent trial was good and will keep them honest. 8.00
6 DRAGON KINGDOM *** Maiden who was disappointing this grade as even money favourite last start but pay to keep safe. 6.00
7 STIRLING ** Will need easier to win but showed enough last start to keep safe in exotics. 20
8 THUNDER CAT * Enjoys the Poly but needs easier than this. 50
9 SHAQRAA ** Broke maiden status in Class 5 last start and pay to keep safe although this is much tougher. 20
10 GOLDEN MILE * Blinkers off and may be looking for easier. 33

Race 4

A solid Class 5 mile field but LIM'S BATTLE ticks enough boxes to be the one the punters will jump on. Obviously his recent Poly form over 1200m is solid but more importantly he gets back up to a suitable trip, gets blinkers and D Beasley from gate 2! What more do you want? In saying that, there are a few horses in form and win without surprising including WINNING STAR who has been supported when placing at his last two in similar affairs and the maiden, LADY LIBERTY, who is also due and gets to jump from the ace. Of the rest, PERFECT CHALLENGER and KASHAN have both drawn wide but are both in the mix on recent form while value seekers may want to keep ALLEZ safe as he had excuses dropping to Class 5 last start (returned not striding) and could show up with a handy 3kg claim.

1 ALLEZ *** Form reads badly and returned not striding when supported in similar affair last start but pay to keep safe in this Company. 20
2 SUN THUNDER * Race form ordinary but could grow a leg dropping to Class 5. 33
3 LIM'S BATTLE *** In good form and extremely hard to beat stepping up to more suitable trip with blinkers added. 3.00
4 MOON RIVER * No. 100
5 PERFECT CHALLENGER *** Long time between wins and drawn badly but is due and race suits. 7.00
6 WINNING STAR *** Has been supported heavily when placing at his last two in similar affairs and should win soon. 3.00
7 LADY LIBERTY *** Long-term maiden status a concern but is due and gets the favours from gate 1. 8.00
8 KASHAN *** Ran on well to place in similar affair last start and expect much the same from wide gate. 8.00
9 KING CROSS * Prefer others. 50
10 SUPER VELOX ** First up run solid and improves stepping up to this trip. Value. 20
11 PURE WHITE * Long-term maiden who ran a forward race last start but easier to ignore. 33
12 SHABBAT * Has placed on occasion but 32 starts without a win is a concern. 20
13 ARCHER COMPANY ** Ran on well last start and could be value. 20
14 GOLD CUSTOMER ** Thereabouts of late and a must for exotics from gate 3. 12

Race 5

An odd Class 3 field given that while there are two horses - RED DAWN and NIGHT FLIGHT - gunning for hat tricks, nothing jumps off the page to win. In saying that RED DAWN is coming off two Poly wins and should enjoy getting back on the turf. He is drawn wide but can win with Matt Kellady retaining the ride. NIGHT FLIGHT is resuming after winning over the mile but has placed first up this trip and worth thought. ZEDKAAR also resumes after good form over longer but a recent trial looked good enough to have a say with N Juglall to ride. CONFLIGHT showed form last start on the Poly - finally - and obviously handles the turf given he has a Group win on the grass to his name. The interesting runner is DINGHU MOUNTAIN who brings solid form from Australia and has trialled well enough to win at his Singapore debut with one eye on the market.

1 CONFLIGHT *** Finally showed a returned to form last start and may appreciate being back on his Group winning surface. 6.00
2 RED DAWN *** Recent winning form on the Poly and drawn wide but more than handles the turf and might be value. 6.00
3 NIGHT FLIGHT *** Resuming after a winning run of form but may need longer to be at his best. 7.00
4 DRAGONHEAD * Struggling. 100
5 ZEDKAAR *** Another progressive type resuming and trials like he can show up fresh over this trip. 6.00
6 DINGHU MOUNTAIN *** Former Australian galloper who comes with a solid record and has trialled well enough to consider at his Singapore debut. 6.00
7 WINNING MAN ** Tough to follow but can go forward and handles the turf so keep safe. 8.00
8 CONILAD ** Resuming after a torrid run last start and also showed signs of respiratory distress. Take on trust. 12
9 PALTROW ** Honest, handles the turf and often value. Each-way. 12
10 BEST WISHES * No. 50
11 DRAGON SPIRIT * Reassess on the Poly. 33
12 POWER LIN ** In solid form but this is as tough as he wants it. 12
13 THE WIND ** Resuming sans blinkers after bleeding attack but goes OK when right and will be odds. 20

Race 6

A ordinary race and the best we can hope for is that OCEAN GENERAL slips through the punters guards and offers some value given his perceived poor recent form. But that form was in better Company than this and this trip (three wins) and track (four) is definitely his caper and can win with Zaki up from gate 2. The obvious pick and likely favourite is BEST JADE who is in form and ready to win again. But the 4YO has only one win to his name so is a risk given the short quote from a wide gate. BARNBURGH LAD the only other that wins without surprising after drawing favourably in gate 1 and MISS WAIMATAITAI may need slightly longer to win but may be better than most of these.

1 OCEAN GENERAL *** Form better than it reads and will grow a leg dropping to Class 5 in what is a suitable Poly trip. 5.00
2 PLATOON ** Coming off a shocker and back in trip but could improve at odds dropping to Class 5 with best work expected late. 20
3 BARNBURGH LAD *** Can lead from gate 1 and showed two back he might be hard to run down. 5.00
4 MISS WAIMATAITAI ** Excuses last start and could be competitive but might need 1200m to show her best. 10
5 INVINCIBLE MAN ** Resuming after a poor run of form but trials like he can show his best so keep safe. 12
6 A LOT IN HAND ** In very solid form without a result and a must for exotics from gate 4. 8.00
7 BEST JADE *** In form and wins soon but needs a result for the support. 3.00
8 SO PERFECT ** Excuses not to finish closer last start and worth a look at value on best form. 12
9 COOL CAT ** Veteran who battled away last start over 1200m and can figure in this field. 8.00

Race 7

A race with depth but Dan Beasley holds the key in this race given he has looked to have jumped off last start winner LIM'S SAMURAI to stick with ABSOLUTE MIRACLE who finished sixth at his last start. But that run was good and the step up to 1400m - his only winning trip in Singapore - looks deal as does the fair B Course. But LIM'S SAMURAI is progressive and wins again without surprising. Nunes looks a fair replacement for Beasley and the Japanese-bred 4YO is a horse to follow through the Classes. Too many others in good enough form to win but ROYAL RULER, NAZIR, ROBIN HOOD, SUPER SIX and TOLIMAN (value) all win without surprising in what is a terrific race.

1 ROYAL RULER *** Yet to win on the turf and query this trip but has handled the surface previously and in good enough form to win. 8.00
2 NAZIR *** Back in trip after winning well over 2000m but versatile and can win again. 5.00
3 SISTER IN LAW * Gets tongue-tie but needs to show more. 33
4 ABSOLUTE MIRACLE *** OK last start and step up to 1400m looks ideal given recent form. Will be flying late. 6.00
5 WHITE HUNTER ** In form, will race forward and be in this a long way. 8.00
6 ROBIN HOOD *** Disappointing last start with heavy support but subsequent trials nice enough to bounce back here. 8.00
7 SUPER SIX *** Rarely seen on the turf but did break maiden status this trip and track and hard to fault recent form. Value. 9.00
8 DIVIDED HOUSE ** Never in the hunt last start so ignore as always a show on honest form. 20
9 CASING ROYAL ** Competitive but best recent form is on the Poly. 12
10 LIM'S SAMURAI *** Putting together a very good CV and pay to follow through the grades. 5.00
11 TOLIMAN *** Disappointing last start but happy to keep safe at odds on run two back behind Jupiter Gold with tongue-tie off for this. 20
12 SUN HOPLITES ** Never involved last start but better when ridden forward with gate 1 a factor. 33

Race 8

A first glance this looks a race in two between last start maiden winner ELITE WARRIOR and MARINE TREASURE who just missed in this Company at his first start for Shane Baertschiger. Obviously MARINE TREASURE has the form on the board in Class 4 and he should have enough natural pace to race handy from gate 9 and should be in the mix. However, ELITE WARRIOR has improved lengths at two starts since blinkers went on and he should be up to this task. Yes, he didn't look to beat much when breaking his maiden status but he did some work form gate 12 on that occasion and he could get the favours today from gate 1 with M Rodd jumping on. If it does get willing early, PREFERRED looks the best of the swoopers and one to keep safe in a race that suits. Market best guide on the rest with LIM'S SPARKLE a likely improver with blinkers on.

1 MARINE TREASURE *** Just missed last start on the back of a good trial after changing stables and can win this. 3.00
2 ELITE WARRIOR *** Has been an improved horse since blinkers went on two starts back and last start maiden win strong enough to win this. 2.50
3 BOARD WALK * Has been disappointing of late and easier to ignore. 50
4 NATURAL IMPULSE ** Yet to win beyond 1100m but showed enough last start to follow in this field. 12
5 PREFERRED *** Form better than it reads and has been running on well. Each way. 8.00
6 BANDIDO ** Might need easier to win but ran on well when resuming in KSD Company and pay to keep safe. 11
7 GOLDEN SPARK * Blinkers off after struggling in this Company at his last two starts and better in Class 5. 50
8 SOON YI ** Took a drop to Class 5 to win but was competitive this Company previously and can include in exotics. 10
9 AMAZEALOT ** Racing in solid form and will be running on at odds so can consider. 20
10 LIM'S SPARKLE ** Maiden who looked destined for Class 5 but worth another look at odds with blinkers back on and no weight. 20
11 THANKFULNESS * Competitive on his day but like to see over longer in Class 5 with tongue-tie off for this. 33

Race 9

A terrific race to finish what should have been a very good Friday night meeting and again a progressive runner wearing the Lim's colours is right in winning calculations. The horse in question is LIM'S DASHING and the 4YO looks a promising type who is more than up to winning in this Company. He had excuses last start and has won this trip and should get a good run throughout from a fair gate. Plenty of honest horses ready to win in this field including GROENEWEGEN resuming with a nice trial under his belt, GUILTY PLEASURES with a handy 3kg claim, TURQUOISE KING with blinkers on and the second emergency, LUCKY STRIDE who is due. Keep FIRST PRECINCT safe as he had excuses last start and may be value.

1 GUILTY PLEASURES *** Always runs an honest race and won similar affair to this three starts back. Big show. 6.00
2 DREAMWEAVER * Very disappointing at his last two start starts and easier to ignore from wide gate. 33
3 CAMBRIDGE ** Very much appreciates Singapore debut run this trip and that effort good enough to keep safe. 12
4 GROENEWEGEN *** Resuming after a very good run of form and recent trial suggests he can win with gate 2 a factor. 4.00
5 FIRST PRECINCT *** Last run better than the result and could show up here from better gate. 8.00
6 TURQUOISE KING *** Extremely honest and gets his chance dropping back in trip with blinkers added. 6.00
7 EN CIVIL ** Not a mile away last start after winning in Class 4 but this is a very good field. 20
8 KINGS RYKER * Drawn badly and better over longer on the Poly. 50
9 LIM'S DASHING *** Very progressive 4YO who had excuses last start and will win races like this. 5.00
10 DUTY FIRST * Handy enough and won last start but query this level on the turf. 20
11 IVANHOE * Needs to show more in Singapore before considering. 50
12 EL DON ** Won over 2000m in Class 4 last start but will be running on with lightweight if race run to suit. 20
13 THE JEUNEYMAN * OK at his last two starts but like to see in something easier. 20
14 O'REILLY BAY * Reassess in something easier. 33
15 RED ANT ** Can be tough to follow but ran well in similar affair three starts back so keep safe. 20
16 LUCKY STRIDE *** Just missed last start with support in similar affair and gets his chance from gate 1. 5.00
