Friday meeting preview

Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

A bumper weekend of racing in Singapore, which starts tonight with what looks a stellar edition of the Three-Year-Old Classic.

The Group 2 event over 1400m (race 9) is the second leg of the Three-Year-Old Challenge and the history of this series suggests the winner of the first leg, COUNTOFMONTCRISTO is well worth following.

The Echoes of Heaven-gelding won the Sprint leg in fine style to remain unbeaten at four career starts and given five horses in the last seven years have made a clean sweep of the series, he has to be a big show.

However, like last year when reigning horse-of-the-year Debt Collector skipped the Sprint before taking all before him in the Classic and the Guineas, JUPITER GOLD is the one to beat.

The Australian-bred rig showed glimpses of his talents as a juvenile before storming through the grades as a 3YO with stunning wins at his last four starts.

And the fact he stopped Debt Collectors incredible nine-run winning streak in Open Company at his last start won’t be lost on punters so expect a short quote on the Takaoka-trained star.

Best Bets: (JUPITER GOLD race 9, win), (HONGCHEN race 6, value) and (I’VE GOT A FEELING race 11, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 8 (1, 2, 3 and 4), race 9 (1, 2, 3 and 9), race 10 (1, 3, 6 and 7), race 11 (1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 13).

Race 1

I believe CERDAN was put in the "never to bet on again" file but given the field and his form, he picks himself. Also in his favour is Nunes gets to jump from gate 4 so no excuses you would think. Who beats him on form? HIGHLIGHT is in very solid form this campaign and you would think wins again this campaign and he too has drawn favourably. SO PERFECT flopped last start but it may pay to ignore that run as his form prior coupled with a nice trial has him under notice. Others to include in the winning mix are SKY ELEVEN who should really need a tad further, GOOD LUCKY who is in solid form while the first emergency, GENIUS, could show up on the back of some improved recent efforts.

1 CERDAN *** Foot well and truly on the till but refuses to win. Gets his chance again. 2.30
2 GIORGIO * Form hopeless but drops in Class so keep and eye on market. 33
3 SKY ELEVEN *** Like to see over longer but must be respected in Class 5 with gate 1 a factor. 12
4 SNOW DANCER * Maiden who gets winkers and should appreciate Class 5 but hard to have on form. 100
5 WAR STORY ** Another maiden who looks competitive so worth thought at value in this Company. 20
6 SILVER POWER ** Goes OK on his day in this type of race but will need luck from wide alley. 12
7 SO PERFECT *** Veteran who is coming off an ordinary run but has trialled well since and goes close on form prior. 6.00
8 DOUBLE WIN * Gets blinkers but struggles as a rule. 100
9 BARNBURGH LAD ** Not a mile away last start in similar affair and can include in exotics. 12
10 HIGHLIGHT *** In form and wins again this campaign without surprising. 6.00
11 GOOD LUCKY *** Found some good form on the turf but a recent nice recent trial suggests he can win on the Poly. 6.00
12 SUPER VELOX * Resuming and prefer to watch on form from previous campaign. 100
13 GENIUS *** Showed improvement of late and has won track and trip. 8.00
14 HEE'S EGO ** OK at his last two and can include in exotics at long odds. 33

Race 2

The market has to be a good guide in this Restricted Maiden with no less than five horses getting blinkers added for the first time at the races. Most of them should improve with racing plus the added headgear but a horse like HAPPY START also gets a senior hoop in G Boss and the step up to 1400m looks ideal. SUPER ACE looks hopeless on form but has trialled well with blinkers and you could make a case for improvement on some recent efforts. But on exposed form the Michael Clements pair of LEON and KHUDAWAND look the ones to beat. Coincidentally, LEON steps up to 1400m while KHUDAWAND drops back but both are in form and win without surprising. Of the rest, CLASSIC only has to repeat his last start effort to win this while O'REILLY STAR and MILITARY MIGHT both go close and hopefully provide value.

1 CLASSIC *** Backed up a nice trial with a good first up run at long odds and pay to follow. 10
2 KHUDAWAND *** Two runs since blinkers added were very good and can win dropping back to 1400m with best work expected late. 3.00
3 LEON *** Honest and the step up to 1400m could see a result. 4.00
4 MAJULAH * Improved effort last start and gets blinkers but easier to ignore. 33
5 SUPER ACE *** Form better than it reads and looks an improver with blinkers added first time. 12
6 COUNTRY BOSS ** Green when running on OK late n debut and should improve for the effort. 20
7 HANGMAN ** Three solid locals trials under his belt but like to see support before considering. 12
8 HAPPY START *** Shown little at two career starts but blinkers, Boss and step up to 1400m has him under notice. 12
9 O'REILLY STAR *** Disappointing last start after very promising debut but worth another look with tongue-tie added over 1400m. 6.00
11 MILITARY MIGHT *** Ignore last start as the turf looks his preferred surface and gives this a shake at odds with upgrade to blinkers. 20
12 HERO IN THE WIND * Will improve with racing but maybe later. 50
13 GASPARO DA SALO * Missed the kick on debut but like to see something before considering. 50
14 PACIFIC PEARL * Another that gets blinkers added first time but hard to have on debut effort. 50

Race 3

Plenty of winning hopes in this division (2) of the OB67 over 1400m and value might be the key. From the top, SOLARIS SPECTRUM will find this Company to his liking and looks well placed with a handy 3kg claimer while LIM'S KNIGHT get this chance to win again at his first crack over 1400m. FIRST PRECINT knows all about this trip and looks the benchmark on recent form and don't forget two last start Class 4 winners in MR SCORSESE and SPLICE. The interesting runner is OPTMUS who had support in a similar affair last start where he had excuses (saddle slipped). He gets a tongue-tie for good measure and can win this.

1 SOLARIS SPECTRUM *** Racing well without winning but gets his chance with handy claim in this Company. 6.00
2 LIM'S KNIGHT *** In fine form and the step up to 1400m looks a good move. 3.00
3 FIRST PRECINCT *** Found form and 1400m certainly looks his caper so right in this. 6.00
4 MR SCORSESE *** Bounced back to form by winning in Class 4 last start with support and worth following. 6.00
5 POLITICS * Recent trial OK but would prefer to see over longer. 33
6 GANADOR * Resuming and hard to have. 200
7 OPTIMUS *** Saddle slipped last start when supported similar affair so pay to follow with tongue-tie added. 5.00
8 SPLICE *** Broke through last start for well-deserved win in Class 4 over this trip and each-way all the way. 12
9 SUN HOPLITES ** Former Australian who has had one quiet local trial with market best guide. 33
10 LUCKY STRIDE ** Ran on well to be competitive in Class 4 last start but should need easier than this. 20
11 MAGNETISE ** Lightly raced 5YO who appreciates solid first up run and worth a look at value. 20
12 THANKFULNESS * Should need easier an longer again. 50

Race 4

Selections; 12 POMP - 8 SNIP - 10 I'M ON FIRE - 9 RED RIDING WOOD

An ordinary maiden to say the least and while RED RIDING WOOD could indeed be the best horse in the race on recent form; this trip looks too short so you would have to take on trust. So a horse with plenty of early toe in POMP gets his chance. The 3YO gets to jump from gate 1 and he should be hard to pass late. I'M ON FIRE also looks in good enough form to play a part in this finish and expect support for the Ricky Le Grange runner. SNIP is resuming but showed more than enough at his first campaign to win and the market will be a very good first up guide. Nothing else to get excited about in this field.

1 ON ELECTRIC AVENUE * Maiden from Australia and hard to have on exposed local trial form. 12
2 DIVERGENT ** Should need longer but has been racing in unsuitable Company of late so pay to keep safe. 12
3 HAPPY BABY ** Usually thereabouts without being a threat but this race might be weak enough to get a result. 12
5 ELITE WARRIOR ** Just fair at two career starts but should improve with blinkers added. 12
6 PHANFONE * Hard to have. 100
7 OTTAWA ** Gets blinkers after ordinary Singapore debut but should improve. 12
8 SNIP *** Resuming after a good first campaign and should win one of these sooner than later. 4.00
9 RED RIDING WOOD ** In form and this race is weak but recent good efforts over longer so is a risk. 6.00
10 I'M ON FIRE *** Racing and trialling well of late and get this chance in this field from gate 2. 5.00
11 SUPER DRAGON * Disappointing last start when blinkers were added and have to take on trust. 33
12 POMP *** Has pace and can make use of the ace and hard to run down. 4.80
13 GOLDEN BOBO * No. 50
14 HAPPY DAYZ ** Plenty of early pace keeps him involved but needs to finish off his races. 12

Race 5

While we have seen the odd 2YO race against older horses of late, the first crop of juveniles get to race against each other in this Nursery Stakes Open over 1000m. AUSPICIOUS DAY is the only horse with race experience under his belt and while he missed the start on that occasion, he gets blinkers and can improve. Of the newcomers, two standout on trial form - BERLINETTA and BRINGER OF WAR. Both looked good enough at their respective trails to win on debut and not much separates the pair with market a good guide. The other two to watch on trial form are CHARGER and ELITE KINGDOM as both looked solid and should figure.

1 AUSPICIOUS DAY ** Blinkers on after start costly on debut against older horses and race experience could count for plenty in this field. 12
2 BERLINETTA *** Trialled well and expect support and can win on debut. 2.60
3 CHARGER *** Solid trial and gets Rodd from gate 3 so market watch in order. 5.00
4 ELITE KINGDOM *** Had a few trials and a couple good enough to think he plays a part in these types of races. 5.00
5 HUN YEANG ROAD ** Pushed along at Official Trial and would like to see support before considering. 12
6 MONSTER ENERGY * Not on exposed trial form. 50
7 BRINGER OF WAR *** Filly who looks a very good chance on exposed trial form and could be hard to beat. 3.00

Race 6

A Class 5 raffle of the highest order and you could make a winning case for more than half of this field. In fact you could box seven and still not find the forecast but as it stands a Class dropper in HONGCHEN looks a good option. He has drawn wide with a claimer on-board so will need luck but the race suits and he could even be value. Claimers also play a part in the fortunes of ASPEN who has drawn the widest with Z Syed riding while Zawari, CC Wong and Amirul can win on PRINCE DARCI, DEAUVILLE and MAI DARKO respectively. Nunes on ALFONSO and Vorster on SPUR ME ON are also in the mix with experience in their corner.

1 EASTERN VICTORY ** Maiden who comes under notice stepping up in trip dropping to Class 5. 20
2 HONGCHEN *** In very solid form over this trip in better Company than this and hard to beat. 4.00
3 PRINCE DARCI *** Maiden who wasn't far away last start and could easily show up at first start in Class 5. 12
4 ALFONSO *** Not the type to win out of turn but always a show in races like this. 5.00
5 ASPEN *** Wide draw a concern with 4kg claimer but foot on the till and will play a big part late. 8.00
6 DEAUVILLE *** Appreciates solid first up run and wins a race like this sooner than later. 12
7 FLYING MISSION ** Appreciates first up run and pay to keep safe at value. 20
8 MAI DARKO *** Maiden who is in form and will make his presence felt late. Each way. 20
9 THE ONE ** Resuming. Form hopeless but recent trial OK and could add value to exotics. 50
10 HOLY THOMAS * Blinkers go on but hard to have on race form. 100
11 BALKAN CHALLENGER ** Showed last start that the turf is his caper and another to include at long odds. 33
12 DRAGON ** Will be working home late and well worth a look at each way odds. 12
13 ZAC BENEVOLENT ** Yet to win in Singapore but placed two starts back on the turf so have to consider. 12
14 SPUR ME ON *** Lowly rated but in form and doing more than enough in similar affairs to give this a shake. 6.00
15 MR MIURA * Gets tongue-tie but easier to ignore. 50
16 PERFECT CURIOSITY *** Always a winning show in races like this and pay to keep very safe if he gets a start. 8.00

Race 7

Another raffle but this one with some more than handy middle distance types including ROBIN HOOD who very well may be headed to some nice staying races in the future. The 5YO is coming off a poor run and has 59.5kg to carry but given his form prior and a nice recent trial, he can win this. But DARSHINI looks ready to win in Singapore after placing at his second start at Kranji. The former UK runner needs this type of trip to show his best and has to be a huge shown what he showed last start. To be fair, most others in the field can win without surprising and you have to keep the likes of SQUIRE OSBALDESTON, ARHAT and CLASSIFIED honest while CERTAINLY had all sorts of traffic issues last start and must be respected.

1 ROBIN HOOD *** Disappointing last start with heavy support but subsequent trial nice enough to bounce back here. 3.00
2 EXCELLENCY * Nothing last start with support so tongue-tie comes off but have to take on trust. 12
3 SQUIRE OSBALDESTON *** In solid form without winning but have to keep safe. 8.00
4 ARHAT *** Very progressive type who did well to place last start and this trip looks ideal. 6.00
5 CLASSIFIED *** Hard to fault Class 4 form and progressive enough to give this a shake. 6.000
6 DARSHINI *** Ran on very well at second Singapore start to place and step up to 1800m looks ideal. 5.00
7 CERTAINLY *** Held up last start in the straight and gets his chance to make amends from gate 4. 8.00
8 MIGHTY EMPEROR ** Has handled the turf and one to keep safe on usual honest form. 20
9 PUSAKA ** Ran on very well over 1200m last start and the is much more suitable. Keep safe. 20

Race 8

All the winning hopes in this Class 5 field are either dropping or have recently dropped to this Company and LET'S TALK NOW has solid enough Poly form in Class 4 to win this. The 7YO is a three-time Poly winner and apart from solid form and a drop in grade; he gets M Rodd and gets to jump from a good gate. SILK ROUTE has been in Class 5 for two runs now and placed at both. They were on the turf and he should find the Poly to his liking. SWINGLOWSWEETJACKY also drops to Class 5 and given his only career win was on this surface, he gets is chance. THE DODGER showed last start this race and Company is his caper and wins sooner than later while last start winner, JOY AND HAPPY, has to be respected.

1 LET'S TALK NOW *** Recent Poly form in better Company good enough to win this. 6.00
2 SILK ROUTE *** In form and only career win was on the Poly and hard to pass late. 3.00
3 SWINGLOWSWEETJACKY *** Improves lengths dropping to Class 5 and maiden win on the Poly so must be respected. 12
4 THE DODGER *** Showed last start this type of race is his caper and should figure prominently. 4.00
6 BAYMAX * Could improve form the better age but yet to finish in the top three. 33
7 JOY AND HAPPY *** Looks better on the turf but placed two back this surface with support so pay to keep safe. 5.00
8 GREAT WARRIOR * Back in trip but versatile enough to include in exotics at value. 20
9 LUCKY COIN * Reassess on the turf. 100
10 READY FORTUNE * Resuming and needs longer. 33
11 SATELLITE STAR ** Form reads badly but always some show on the Poly so can include in exotics. 20
12 GOLDEN ROSEWOOD ** Broke long term maiden status two back and solid last start so can include somewhere, 16
13 START ME UP ** Maiden who has placed two out of his last three and is a must for exotics. 12
14 ALAN *** Excuses for poor run two starts back and happy to think he wins a race like this. 8.00

Race 9

A very good crop of 3YO's makes this second leg of the Three-Year-Old Challenge a beauty and while there most have some show, it is extremely hard to pick against the top-rated horse in JUPITER GOLD. The Australian-bred rig has taken all before him winning his last four but the fact he beat reigning Singapore Horse of the Year Debt Collector at his most recent winnower 1600m suggests he is the real deal. He will need to be at his best though with COUNTOFMONTECRISTO undefeated in four career starts - his last win in the 3YO Sprint. That form usually holds up in both this leg and the Guineas so he will have admirers. These two do stand out on form but you can make a case for DRACO as he will be doing best work late so the trip has him under notice while SKYWALK has form over 1400m and must be respected.

1 JUPITER GOLD *** Carried 51kg when beating Debt Collector last start and that form easily holds up against his own age group. 2.40
2 COUNTOFMONTECRISTO *** Undefeated in four starts and won the 3YO Sprint. Big show. 3.00
3 SKYWALK *** Not a mile away in the Sprint and handles the trip so has to be a show. 10
4 COULD BE PEARLS ** Always hard to fault winning form but this is a lot tougher than Class 4. 12
5 MACARTHUR ** Placed in the 3YO Sprint when blinkers were added but 1400m may test. 12
6 DEIMOS ** Excuses in the 3YO sprint and worth another look on previous form. 33
7 MR FATKID ** Last start win over 1400m in Class 4 good enough to keep a few honest here. 12
8 SIR ISAAC ** Very honest but lack of winning form is a concern. Gate 1 helps. 20
9 DRACO *** Excuses when running on in the Sprint and will be doing best work again and can surprise. 20
10 SPLINTER ** Lightly raced but shown more than enough to think he will be competitive. 33
11 GOLDEN THUNDER * Class 5 form won't hold up here. 100
12 MAKANANI ** Filly who has shown enough at last two start this trip to keep safe. 33

Race 10

With no stand out in this Class 4 Poly sprint, ROSELLI get this chance. The 6YO has been in solid form in better Company than this and while drawn wide and only winning one in Singapore, the win was this trip and track and can win again with M Rodd to ride. SUPERSONIC SURPRISE looks the benchmark on recent form though. The 5YO is a six-time Poly sprint winner and had excuses not to finish closer last start so he must go close. GREY FALCON and LOUEY VELOCE don't win out of turn but both are in form and play a part in this finish with Nunes and Duric respectively to ride. Keep the emergencies safe if they get a start.

1 ROSELLI *** Wide draw a concern but appreciates Company and always a show on the Poly. 4.00
2 SCRAT * Appreciates first up run and should improve with one eye on the market. 33
3 SUPERSONICSURPRISE *** Excuses not to go closer over 100m last start with support and will figure in this finish. 3.00
5 SURE WIN ** Always a show in races like this but returned a roarer last start (again) so have to take on trust. 12
6 GREY FALCON *** Just fair last start in KSD Company but good maiden win two back was on the Poly and worth thought with M Nunes up. 6.00
7 LOUEY VELOCE *** Doesn't win out of turn and drawn wide but always looks a winning show. 5.00
8 MILLION ROUND ** Recent winning form in Class 5 but gets the ace and could be competitive. 12
9 ENTHUSE * Another last start Class 5 winner and should need that Company. 33
10 EURO ZONE * Battled on in KSD last start and might want easier. 33
11 UNSURPASSED ** Showed last start why he is always some show in race like this and could be value. 16
12 OCEAN MASTER * Maiden who needs easier. 100
13 FAITHFULLY *** Always an each-way show in race like this. 10
14 DUTY FIRST ** Showed again last start that this type of race is his caper so can include exotics. 20

Race 11

A very competitive race to finish what should have been a very good days racing. And what makes this race interesting is the fact that four of the fancies - I'VE GOT A FEELING, MURRAYFIELD, CHALAZA and HELLO MICHELLE - are all coming off seemingly poor runs with excuses. And in I'VE GOT A FEELING's case, that run was at Group level in the 3YO Sprint so he can improve and win with blinkers added a factor. CHALAZA is coming off a shocker but given the support and his previous good form it would pay to ignore that run as he can in without surprising. HELLO MICHELLE could be the value runner given she is a query at 1400m but she has ability and must be respected. MURRAYFIELD at his best is more than up to this and blinkers help his cause. Two last start winners in OXBOW and to a lesser extent QUEEN'S SEVEN both appeal while MANGATOETOENUI is honest and looks a good each-way proposition.

1 OXBOW SUN *** Won over this trip after a couple of sighters in Singapore and pay to keep following. 6.00
2 JUSTICE FIRST * Struggling of late. 33
3 WINNING CAUSE ** Has been steady without threatening this campaign but recent trial was good and gets the ace. 12
4 MANGATOETOENUI *** In very solid form and worth an each-way look dropping back to 1400m. 20
5 I'VE GOT A FEELING *** Had excuses in the 3YO Sprint and will find this Company with blinkers added more to his liking. 5.00
6 PALTROW ** Another extremely honest Laxon runner but may need a tad easier to win. 12
7 MURRAYFIELD *** Excuses last start not to finish closer and can win on best form with blinkers added. 5.00
8 CHALAZA *** Coming off a shocker with support but something looked amiss and happy to give another chance. 8.00
9 FIGHTING WARRIOR ** Form reads badly this campaign but trip and track suits so look for improvement. 33
10 HELLO MICHELLE *** Excuses last start and query at the trip but has ability and worth following. 8.00
11 BILLY BRITAIN ** Honest and will be running on but this is as short as he wants it. 20
12 KEVIN ELEVEN * No. 100
13 QUEEN'S SEVEN *** Not the type to win out of turn but last start win was strong and always some show on a lightweight. 8.00
14 SOON YI * Competitive but like to see in Class 5. 50
