Wide open race. Cerdan (1) is knocking on the door. Getting close to opening his account. Lovely gate. This time or never. Highlight (10) has a nice finish and will appreciate the extra 200m. Solid claims. Good Lucky (11) led and tried to go all the way at his last outing but was run down late. Back in trip but reverts to Polytrack which does not seem to be his pet surface. Wide gate but can still make the board. So Perfect (7) fell by the wayside at his last run. Can do a lot better than that. Give him another chance. Can overcome awkward draw.
Trainer Michael Clements holds the aces here. Khudawand (2) let down like a good thing at his last start. On that run, he has to be taken seriously from now on. His stablemate Leon (3) was a shade disappointing at his third run. More was expected from him but he lacked finish. Will relish extra 200m. O’Reilly Star (9) lost the race at the start at his last outing. Not without ability. Can do much better than what he showed. Tongue-tie and earmuffs for first time. Marble one. Classic (1) ran a cheeky race at long odds at his third start. If he proves that was no fluke, he should be included in the calculations, even if he has drawn a horror gate.
Former top three-year-old Mr Scorsese (4) returned to his best at his last start. On that run he should be right in the mix in this. Wide barrier does not worry him as he normally drops back. Lim’s Knight (2) is also in good trim. First time over 1400m but gives every indication he will see it out. First Precinct (3) has not quite lived up to the promise shown early. Seemed to be struggling in a barrier trial on March 30 when he tailed off badly. Maybe he didn’t enjoy the Polytrack. Don’t write him off just yet. Optimus (7) was a bit of a letdown at his last start, though he had excuses as his saddle slipped. Forget he ran as he can atone here. Earmuffs off, tongue-tie on.
I’m On Fire (10) is a horse who won’t take long to find his way to the winner’s enclosure. Improving with every run and put in a nice barrier trial last Thursday. Has drawn barrier No 2. Keep an eye on him. Snip (8) is not without ability. First run this year. Has had a lot of barrier trials under the belt. Include in calculations. Ottawa (7) did not show much at his debut. Don blinkers at his second start. Blinkers and crossover noseband on. Can make further headway. Red Riding Wood (9) weakened out of it after showing the way at his last start. Better off held up for a run and needs more ground. Can sneak into the minors if they roll along.
Going with Mark Walker’s filly Bringer Of War (7) in the first Leg of the Singapore Golden Horseshoe series. Walker has a good record with two-year-olds; War Affair and Hello Michelle springing to mind. Bringer Of War has two trial wins under the belt and looks fit and ready. Has drawn an alley. Berlinetta (2) won a barrier trial on April 4. Tracked up leader Charger (3) and slowly got the upperhand without being ridden out. Charger showed gate speed, too, and deserves to be followed as well. Elite Kingdom (4) has trialled well. Can put best foot forward at his debut.
Give Alfonso (4) the nod even if is an in-and-out performer. Finished okay at his last run without threatening the winner. Not without a chance. Aspen (5) came from the ruck to finish right behind the placegetters at his last start. Leading hope even if he has drawn the outermost alley. Mai Darko (8) is coming to hand, but he also had no luck at the barrier draw. Ran on late to finish sixth to Voyager over 1400m. Step-up to the mile is more up his alley. Prince Darci (3) let down late at his last run to finish fifth but only two lengths off the winner Mr Exchequer. Improver who won’t be out of his depth in this. Commands some respect.
Useful sort Arhat (4) ran a creditable second first-up from a four-month spell. The step-up to 1800m will be exactly what he is looking for. Leading prospect. There was plenty to like about the way English import Darshini (6) steamed home for third at his second run. Has pulled marble one and will be ridden by Manoel Nunes. Will come to the fore very soon. Classified (5) is in cracking form but will meet stiffer opposition this time. Still commands respect. Ignore Robin Hood’s (1) last ordinary run. Cast a shoe in the run. Won a barrier trial on April 4. Can atone.
Hard to make a case for most of these. Silk Route (2) has not scored for almost a year. Showed vast improvement at his last couple of starts. In the hunt for a long way. The Dodger (4) is more in his element in Class 5 company. Steamed home for second at his last outing. Has drawn awkwardly but still has place claims. Joy And Happy (7) finally shed his maiden status at his 27th start. Has trained on and there is no reason why he can’t make his presence felt in this. Golden Rosewood (12) is getting on in years but still made some ground at his last run. Not without place claims.
A mouth-watering clash between Jupiter Gold (1) and Countofmontecristo (2) in the Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic. Jupiter Gold was super impressive at his three runs back this year, winning all three. Skipped the 1200m Leg as the 1400m suits better even if 1600m is probably more his ideal distance. Has beaten older rivals and will be hard to beat in his own age group, even from the bad gate. Countofmontecristo is unbeaten in four starts but he is less exposed than Jupiter Gold. Will go over 1400m for first time but should have no issues with that. Can either lead or race handy. Big say. Sir Isaac (8) is not without ability. Made stacks of ground to run third to Countofmontecristo in the Sprint. Seven furlongs more up his alley and he has drawn barrier No 1. Michael Rodd’s pick. Include in calculations. Could Be Pearls (4) is trying to emulate his stablemate Debt Collector in this year’s 3YO Challenge. Has won three in a row but faces stiffer opponents this time.
Speedy sort Grey Falcon (6) is not a model of consistency. Horse with gate speed but who needs to have things his way to be considered. Drawn better this time. Fair chance if things go his way. Louey Veloce (7) was in a good spot behind the speed last time out but ran out of steam in-up the home straight. Can bounce back. Roselli (1) ran super first from a long break but his two next runs had been below expectations. Form still good and he can bounce back here even if he has to overcome a wide barrier. Million Round (8) is up in class after his impressive win at his last run in Class 5 company. Inside barrier is a nice boost.
Many choices in the last race to this Good Friday meeting. Chalaza (8) did not figure at all at his last run. Came back with debris in his trachea. Forget he ran. Capable of better things, but the wide alley is against him. Oxbow Sun (1) made all at his last run. Has improved by leaps and bounds and is not without winning claims here. Paltrow (6) rattled home to just get there at her last run. Seven furlongs should be more up her alley. Scored her first win over that trip. Mangatoetoenui (4) will find this a shade easier. In good nick and is worth a place bet in this. Handy draw.
