Form and preview for Greyville

Preview and form for the meeting at Greyville-Polytrack on Sunday. Selections by Warren Lenferna.

Race 1
Preview: UP IN SMOKE takes on males here but she has been improving with racing. Her last run with blinkers was her best effort thus far and based on that, against this field, she could be the one they all have to beat. FLOWER BLUE is the obvious main danger. He made a fair local and stable debut last time and it is encouraging to see Anton Marcus take the ride again. LUCKDRAGON and TOUCH WOOD have to be included in the quartet. (Warren Lenferna 9-1-2-3)

Race 2
Preview: A tough race – SCARRABEAST gets the best draw and should be able to go very close. He takes on older horses which will not be easy but his post maiden run was good enough to suggest he can go close. OSTENTATION is consistent, loves the poly and should as always, be right there at the finish. SCENT OF THE TIGER showed when tried on the poly for the first time last time that he clearly goes on the surface. He won and won well and if he were to follow up it would be no shock at all. ALBERT has solid form and is a must for the quartet. (Warren Lenferna 7-6-4-5)

Race 3
Preview: The stable of Dean Kannemeyer here in KZN are unstoppable and are in red hot mustard form – it would be silly not to respect them, follow them and include them. Here they have two runners but preference is for the son of Mambo In Seattle – NIGHT CIRCUS. His penultimate run left many puzzled but he bounced right back to best last time and won a good race – follow him until he loses. WHAT A POET won well last time and should be right there again. HYAKU gets the heaviest weight in the field – he is consistent and seldom runs a bad race. WARFARER could do much better with blinkers today – he is progressive and is one to be with. (Warren Lenferna 5-3-1-7)

Race 4
Preview: FIRST APOSTLE has run second to the likes of: Crowd Pleaser, Air Chief Marshal and Night Circus – that form should be good enough to win this race. His last run, he was not beaten far, but he is way better than that. BIG SI ran second last time and has obvious claims. Anthony Delpech gets the ride this afternoon. IMPACT ZONE also ran second last time when sent to the start as the race favourite. He should be in the firing line. PRINCIPATE represents the value in the race – include. (Warren Lenferna 1-4-7-9)

Race 5
Preview: DALE HOUSE has put up only one bad run since winning his maiden. His last two runs were good when running a close up second on both occasions. He is confidently selected to go one better. INTO THE GROOVE seems progressive but she is still young and won’t find it easy taking on older male rivals. In saying that, she is doing well and it would be madness to ignore her chances. TEXICAN might place at good odds and provide some value and PYRENEES IN SPAIN has a bad draw but could finish in the money. (Warren Lenferna 3-2-7-1)

Race 6
Preview: A weak handicap which makes it rather tough to assess! I am taking a flyer here and selecting BELUGA BERRY as the first choice. He has not been too far off the action in his two come back runs and could be cherry ripe for a bold showing today – this is a weak field. ROY’S SAILOR is the obvious horse to beat – his form is consistent and he again should be right there. NOTTINGHAM FOREST and SHARP SEATTLE have chances as well. (Warren Lenferna 9-3-4-6)

Race 7
Preview: MASTER OF MISCHIEF is consistent and clearly has some ability. His last win was over this course and distance. Alec Forbes gets the ride again and they will jump from a neat draw – firm first choice. HOÓPONOPONO could be the upset material here. His penultimate effort was good and he has the pleasure of jumping from the best draw today – big chance. SPANISH CAPTAIN is more than capable of winning this race but his last few have been a bit below his best. FLYING ROCK has a chance. (Warren Lenferna 6-3-1-2)

Race 8
Preview: TROPICAL WINTER is coming to hand and looks ready to score now. UPRISE was backed last time but still raced very green and failed to fire. She is lightly raced and more than likely has a lot more still to offer and should be a lot more conscious of what she is here to do – big runner. SWEET CHESTNUT made a fair local and surface debut last time and can make a race of it but is well tried. MERMAID MAMBO would have needed her come back run last time and should be a lot tighter now – she could improve to find a place at any price. (Warren Lenferna 1-8-7-5)
