SATURDAY December 11 2010 from Te Rapa and Awapuni
Waikato Racing Club at Te Rapa
Overcast and Good3 (2.3 – 2.5)
Horses previewed in numerical order
Race 5 Open Handicap 1400m
4 SHOW UP – Michael Coleman
She closed in late for third to her stable-mate, Italian Princess, at Pukekohe over 1100m on Good3, following a sixth to Fazzle after being posted wide at Ellerslie over 1200m on good footing prior. Impressive winning here over 1200m on good footing in March, she boasts the athleticism and ability to force the issue from barrier one.
7 FAZZLE – Alvin Ng (1)
Notable sixth to Obsession, who subsequently finished third to We Can Say It Now in Gr1 Captain Cook, at Pukekohe over 1400m on Good3. She was dominant winning at Ellerslie over 1200m on good ground prior when second-up from a spell. Her last two starts have been little inferior on speed ratings to those of Salvatore in recent times, she drops five-kilos on her last race and has what it takes to force the issue with a trip to suit.
10 HER ROYAL HIGHNESS – Andrew Calder
After racing at the back of the field, and being held up in the straight, she then worked home solidly for second to Fears Nothing at Pukekohe over 1400m on Good3, for this rider, at her third start following a spell. When resuming at Ellerslie over 1200m she staged a big finish for second to subsequent listed winner Celeris. She has impressed winning here previously, over a mile, and should receive an economical trip from gate two.
Manawatu Racing Club at Awapuni
Overcast and Dead4 (2.6 – 2.8)
Rail: out 5 metres
Race 7 Eulogy Stakes (Three-Year-Old Fillies, Group III) 1600m
1 KING’S ROSE – Opie Bosson
Dominant winning the 1000 Guineas at Riccarton at her previous start, the 28-day freshen since should find her in ideal fettle for another crack against fillies of her age. Naturally, Bosson stays with her after electing to ride her in the Guineas and giving her a winning trip. She obviously has what it takes and should prove competitive again.
3 BANCHEE – Hayden Tinsley
Not disgraced finishing sixth to King’s Rose in the 1000 Guineas at her third run back from a spell. A group one and group two winner as a juvenile last season, she could now be ready to show her best from an ideal draw in the hands of an accomplished rider on this track.
5 KIWI LADY – Kane Smith
Two wins from only two starts have seen this filly rise to contest a group three race at her third start, having only commenced racing three weeks ago. She stepped from 1000m to 1400m at her previous start and now tackles a mile. Obviously a filly of considerable ability, she could make her presence felt if continuing to progress in a favourable manner.
