SATURDAY October 16 2010 from Rotorua and Wanganui
Racing Rotorua at Rotorua
Overcast and Slow7 (3.6 – 3.8)
Rail: out 2 metres 600m to winning post, remainder true
Horses previewed in numerical order
Race 8             Rotorua Plate (Listed) 1950m
1 SIR SLICK – Samantha Spratt
Likely to be fitter for two starts since resuming, at Hastings behind Woodbury Belle and Katie Lee respectively, and despite giving his rivals weight he has the ability at best to force the issue with this rider aboard. A winner of his only course attempt on heavy footing, he is known to show his best on top of the ground, but hopefully should get away with ground just into the slow zone.
3 ELBLITZEM – Matthew Cameron
He found the line solidly for seventh to Atom Cat in the Matamata Cup over 1600m on Slow7 last Saturday, same rider, having the won the corresponding event a year earlier. Six of his eight wins have been recorded on slow going, his dam won consecutive races here early in her career, and from a good draw he should make his presence felt.
11 SO ROYAL – Jason Collett
Against the pattern he found the line solidly from back and wide for third to Kool Kitty at Matamata over 1600m on Slow7 last Saturday, following a freshen on the back of a top resuming performance for third to Our Sweetheart in a sprint at Taupo on slow ground. He drops considerably in weight for this assignment, should appreciate stepping to 1950m and has the ability to threaten if he appreciates the course.
Wanganui Jockey Club at Wanganui
Cloudy and Dead6 (3.3 – 3.5)
Rail: True
Race 5             Rating 90 1600m
5 GOLDMIST – Michelle Wenn
Locally trained and with blinkers on for this assignment, he is unbeaten in two course attempts. He drops considerably in weight after finishing second at New Plymouth over 1400m on heavy going last time and should appreciate stepping to a mile on better ground. His grand-dam Seamist was a group one winner and this horse appears to have inherited plenty of her ability.
7 KEEPEREEL – Rosie Myers (1)
No chance from back and wide behind Tridane at Hasting over 2000m on good ground, having fought hard for third to Crocodile Canyon in the corresponding race on slow footing at Hastings prior. Back to mile with give in the track should suit and she has the ability to quicken effectively at best when presented with these types of track conditions.
9 THE BLACK OAK – Lisa Allpress
Found the line stylishly from well back in the field for sixth to impressive winner Our Ella Belle at Hastings over 1400m on good footing, after being run down when over-racing wide near the lead to finish second over 1400m on heavy going. He has impressed winning on dead and slow footing and while having not raced on the course his half-brother Dubhdara has won here twice.
