13 nominated for the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes

13 sprinters have been nominated for the $750,000, Group 1 WFA Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday with all resuming for new campaigns. Nominations are extended until Tuesday.

Heading the 13 is the Snowden trained five-year-old Snitzel gelding Redzel with the impressive record of winning his last six starts commencing with the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes over 1200m at Randwick last April 15th.

Since that time Redzel has taken all before him to become Australia’s premier sprinter. In four races over the spring Redzel won them all, including the first running of The Everest over 1200m at Randwick and the Group 1 Darley Classic over 1200m at Flemington, to earn his large collection of owners a massive $6.6 million in stakes.

Redzel has been prepared with two trials by the stable winning the last by 3L over 1000m at Rosehill on February 5th. Alizee was second, Classic Uniform third and champion mare Winx fifth. Overall Redzel has won 11 of his 21 starts and with five placings he has earned stakes of $7,797,750

The 2017 Group 1 Thousand Guineas winner Aloisia (NZ) has been nominated to resume in the $150,000, Group 3 The Vanity (1400m). The Azamour filly is one of 19 nominations for the race.

Aloisia won the Guineas and the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase over 2040m at The Valley before finishing sixth in the Group 1 VRC Oaks over 2500m at Flemington.

Overall there are 186 nominations for the nine race programme. The Flemington track is currently rated a Good 3 and the rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit.
