Race: 1 (300) YAU KOM TAU HANDICAP Class 5 1800 m
AGIAAL began awkwardly.
On jumping, REGENCY HONEY shifted in and bumped SWEET BEAN which in turn shifted in and contributed to tightening to CITY WINNER which was checked away from the heels of AUDACITY which shifted out slightly.
Soon after the start, MY GIFT shifted out and inconvenienced CELESTIAL ARROW and SPICY DOUBLE. A short distance later, both CELESTIAL ARROW and SPICY DOUBLE were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
After being crossed by REGENCY HONEY at the 1200 Metres, HAPPY FRIENDSHIP raced keenly and shifted out near the 1100 Metres and made contact with MY GIFT.
At the 650 Metres, CITY WINNER shifted out from behind PEARL FURU, resulting in ROCK THE TREE and CELESTIAL ARROW being placed in restricted room between that horse and SPICY DOUBLE. Approaching the turn after the 600 Metres, CELESTIAL ARROW and ROCK THE TREE were crowded for room and checked when CITY WINNER was taken out marginally by PEARL FURU (S Clipperton) which shifted to the outside of the heels of AGIAAL and SPICY DOUBLE (A Badel) which shifted in slightly to be following SWEET BEAN. Both S Clipperton and A Badel were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Rounding the Home Turn, FUN MANAGER was crowded for room between AUDACITY and SWEET BEAN.
Near the 250 Metres, when racing tight to the inside of SWEET BEAN, AUDACITY shifted in and made contact with the hindquarters of MY GIFT which also shifted out marginally. As a consequence of the contact on its hindquarters, MY GIFT became badly unbalanced and was turned out across the running of AUDACITY which was severely checked and crowded onto SWEET BEAN which was also hampered. PEARL FURU, which was following SWEET BEAN, was obliged to shift out away from the heels of that horse. HAPPY FRIENDSHIP, which was attempting to improve between MY GIFT and REGENCY HONEY, was steadied due to REGENCY HONEY shifting out marginally. Whilst this incident was one of some significance, the Stewards did not believe that there was any rider error involved and therefore no further action was taken.
After the race, Z Purton reported that the solid early pace did not suit FUN MANAGER. He said the horse came under pressure prior to the Home Turn and then weakened in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of FUN MANAGER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SWEET BEAN and AUDACITY were sent for sampling.
Race: 2 (301) TSING YI HANDICAP Class 5 1200 m
ROCKET LET WIN was slow to begin.
WHISTLE UP lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and lost ground.
After jumping away awkwardly and making contact with THE CHAMP, GOLDEN DEER was then inconvenienced soon after the start by IDYLLIC WIND when that horse shifted out.
Upon entering the Back Straight near the 900 Metres, GREAT TOPLIGHT, when being steadied, got its head up and was checked away from the heels of IDYLLIC WIND which shifted out marginally. THE CHAMP, which was following, was hampered in consequence.
Throughout the event, GREAT TOPLIGHT raced wide and without cover.

GOLD TALENT, THE CHAMP and TREASURE AND GOLD were sent for sampling.
Race: 3 (302) TSING LUNG TAU HANDICAP Class 4 1650 m
On arrival at the Start, it was noted that YOURTHEWONFORME had lost its right front plate. After this plate was refitted, YOURTHEWONFORME was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
GENTRY, which was restless in the barriers, lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and consequently was slow to begin.
YOURTHEWONFORME began only fairly.
From wide barriers, YOURTHEWONFORME and MIGHTY BOY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
The Stewards inquired into an incident approaching the winning post on the first occasion where GENTRY lost ground when crowded for room inside SUPREME STORM. It was established that after missing the start, GENTRY was ridden along and made ground quickly to be racing inside the heels of SUPREME STORM (M L Yeung) which was being steadied and had commenced to shift in to take up a trailing position behind POLYMER LUCK. It was further established that when M L Yeung became aware that GENTRY had improved to be racing inside his mount, he was initially unable to shift out any further to afford GENTRY more comfortable racing room as MONEY WINNER was racing tight to his outside. A short distance later, when MONEY WINNER was shifted out to allow more racing room to SUPREME STORM, SUPREME STORM then shifted in and crowded GENTRY before being corrected. PLAY IT, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Whilst acknowledging that he was initially unable to promptly relieve the tightening to GENTRY, the Stewards nonetheless severely reprimanded M L Yeung for failing to make a greater effort to shift out away from GENTRY once MONEY WINNER had been directed out.
Approaching the 800 Metres, DARING HEART was inconvenienced when taken wider by MONEY WINNER which shifted out from behind DESTIN to take up a trailing position behind CHARITY WINGS.
Rounding the Home Turn, DESTIN was held up and unable to improve when racing behind GAINFULJET which came under pressure. After passing the 300 Metres, DESTIN was then shifted to the inside of GAINFULJET and POLYMER LUCK to obtain a run.
Near the 150 Metres, K Teetan (DARING HEART) momentarily dropped his right rein.
Throughout the race, CHARITY WINGS travelled wide and without cover.
Following the race, O Doleuze reported that PLAY IT was not suited by the modest tempo throughout the early and middle stages of the race. A veterinary inspection of PLAY IT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of DARING HEART immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DON’T MISS and DESTIN were sent for sampling.
Race: 4 (303) SHAM TSENG HANDICAP Class 4 1000 m

SPEEDY KING began awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
PEARLY TREASURE, which was slow to begin, was steadied away from the heels of DR RACE which shifted out on jumping.
HUMBLE STEED was also slow to begin.
After making ground quickly approaching the 800 Metres, SPEEDY KING commenced to over-race and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PEACE COMBINATION for some distance.
Approaching the 600 Metres, DR PROACTIVE, which was racing tight to the inside of SPEEDY KING, shifted in and away from that horse, resulting in DR RACE having to be steadied.
Approaching the 500 Metres, ELEGANCE PROMISE was brushed and taken wider by SPEEDY KING which shifted out around the heels of PEACE COMBINATION.
Passing the 50 Metres, A Badel momentarily dropped his left rein.
Throughout the race, BUDDY BUNDY travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, M L Yeung stated that he was instructed to ride PEARLY TREASURE, which was having its first race start tonight, in about a midfield position from its favourable barrier. He said however that PEARLY TREASURE began awkwardly and lost ground at the start which resulted in the horse settling at the tail of the field. He said throughout the early and middle stages PEARLY TREASURE raced greenly and was reluctant to make up ground on the main body of the field despite being ridden along. He said PEARLY TREASURE continued to race greenly and then was also inclined to lay out on the turn after leaving the 600 Metres. When questioned as to whether he could have been more positive on his mount approaching the Home Turn, M L Yeung stated that as PEARLY TREASURE was continuing to race greenly, he was reluctant to ride the horse too hard into the turn given that it had been laying out prior to this. He said once balanced in the Straight, PEARLY TREASURE commenced to close off well when able to be tested. He added over the concluding stages when making ground quickly to the outside of DR PROACTIVE, he was forced to steady PEARLY TREASURE due to DR PROACTIVE shifting out. M L Yeung was advised that the Stewards would note his comments in respect of the performance of PEARLY TREASURE. A veterinary inspection of PEARLY TREASURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SPEEDY KING immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SPEEDY KING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

I’M A WITNESS began awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
BEAUTY CONNECTION (Apprentice H T Mo) shifted out at the start, resulting in CLEAR CHOICE being crowded and NOBLE DE BOY also being crowded and making contact with the hindquarters of CONFUCIUS SPIRIT which became unbalanced. Apprentice Mo was advised that he would be expected to react quicker to his mount shifting ground than he did on this occasion.
Approaching the first turn near the 1000 Metres, BEAUTY CONNECTION was steadied when racing tight to the inside of GRACYDAD (Apprentice M F Poon) which shifted in acutely before being corrected. Apprentice Poon was warned against the practice of shifting in too abruptly.
At the entrance to the Straight, CLEAR CHOICE was disappointed for running between BORN DRAGON and PLANET STAR which shifted in. NOBLE DE BOY, which was racing to the inside of CLEAR CHOICE, was obliged to shift in away from the heels of that horse.
Passing the 200 Metres, ENERGETIC CLASS and GRACYDAD brushed as ENERGETIC CLASS improved into a run between GRACYDAD and BOND ELEGANCE.
Following the race, Z Purton reported that CLEAR CHOICE did not feel entirely comfortable in its action during the race. A veterinary inspection of CLEAR CHOICE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY CONNECTION and I’M A WITNESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CLEAR CHOICE, BORN DRAGON and ENERGETIC CLASS were sent for sampling.

From wide barriers, IMPERIAL GALLANTRY and GENEROUS HEART were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
After travelling a short distance, BANK ON RED shifted in and bumped ISHVARA.
Approaching the 800 Metres, RED ROSE WARRIOR got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BANK ON RED (U Rispoli) which shifted in when not properly clear. U Rispoli was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground.
On the turn after the 600 Metres, BULLISH SMART lay in and made contact with OUR HERO, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
In the early part of the Straight, HEROIC GURU was inclined to lay in and was reluctant to shift to the outside of runners.
Near the 250 Metres, RED ROSE WARRIOR shifted out around the heels of TOP LAURELS and attempted to take a run between that horse and BANK ON RED where there was not quite a run. In this incident, BANK ON RED became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by RED ROSE WARRIOR. N Rawiller was advised to exercise due care in similar circumstances.
Over the final 200 Metres, GENEROUS HEART was held up for clear running and was unable to be tested.
After leaving the 200 Metres, IMPERIAL GALLANTRY and HEROIC GURU lay in under pressure.
Just prior to the finishing line, A Sanna’s (RIGHT CALL) whip was knocked from his grasp by the whip of K Teetan (KIRAM).
When questioned, K Teetan stated that due to the racing pattern tonight where horses racing in a prominent position appeared to be advantaged, he was asked to press forward on KIRAM in the early stages and if possible to find a position with cover behind the pace. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode KIRAM positively in the early stages and approaching the 1200 Metres when caught extremely wide, he initially attempted to steady the horse to have it come back in behind the leading division. He said however that after being ridden along early, KIRAM commenced to over-race and would not settle sufficiently for him to come back behind runners. He added therefore rather than continue to fight KIRAM, he allowed the horse to stride forward before obtaining a position outside the leader RIGHT CALL at the entrance to the Back Straight.
When questioned regarding his riding of ISHVARA in the Straight, M Chadwick stated that in pre-race discussions with Trainer T P Yung, due to the horse’s well documented breathing issues, it was decided to ride ISHVARA patiently and have it build momentum before placing it under full pressure. He said he commenced to urge the horse forward from the 500 Metres as ISHVARA gradually built its momentum rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight. He said when shifted to the outside of BULLISH SMART and placed under full pressure from the 200 Metres, ISHVARA closed off the race satisfactorily. Mr Yung will be interviewed prior to the races on Monday, 1 January 2018.
After the race, N Callan stated that apart from being obliged to race wide and without cover until near the 900 Metres, he was unable to offer any other reason for the disappointing performance of TOP LAURELS. A veterinary inspection of TOP LAURELS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of BANK ON RED and OUR HERO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
IMPERIAL GALLANTRY and HEROIC GURU were sent for sampling.

From wide barriers, STAR MAJESTIC, DR LISTENING and PIKACHU were all steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
At the entrance to the Straight, INSAYSHABLE shifted in away from the heels of MARVEL TRIBE to obtain clear running.
When questioned, N Callan stated that MARVEL TRIBE travelled reasonably well throughout the race behind the speed despite the solid tempo. He said after being hard ridden rounding the Home Turn, MARVEL TRIBE gave him a brief response, however, soon came under heavy pressure and commenced to lose ground. He said as the horse was well beaten, he stopped riding MARVEL TRIBE over the final 100 Metres. He added on pulling up there appeared to be nothing obviously amiss with MARVEL TRIBE. A veterinary inspection of MARVEL TRIBE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of LUCKY GIRL and THUNDER STOMP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
