Race: 1 (272) LUKFOOK JEWELLERY WEDDING COLLECTION HANDICAP Class 4 1000 m
LEAN PERFECTION began only fairly.
ROOKIE STAR stumbled at the start, shifted out and bumped KINGSTON ONE. A short distance after this, ROOKIE STAR was bumped by KINGSTON ONE which was taken in by HAVE FUN TOGETHER, resulting in ROOKIE STAR becoming unbalanced, shifting in and causing MAGIC SUCCESS to be crowded for room outside THE HAPPY BUNCH which shifted out.
Near the 950 Metres, THE HAPPY BUNCH shifted out abruptly, resulting in MAGIC SUCCESS and ROOKIE STAR being hampered. When being directed in to relieve the tightening to MAGIC SUCCESS and ROOKIE STAR, THE HAPPY BUNCH and MASSIVE MOVE bumped heavily, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
Approaching the 800 Metres, SHALLUCK was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MY BEAR CAT.
Near the 550 Metres, HAVE FUN TOGETHER was steadied away from the heels of SHALLUCK which shifted out. When under pressure, HAVE FUN TOGETHER raced greenly and for some distance after the 300 Metres got its head on the side and lay in towards the heels of ROOKIE STAR, resulting in HAVE FUN TOGETHER being awkwardly placed for some distance. HAVE FUN TOGETHER then continued to race greenly and for some distance after the 200 Metres was reluctant to improve its position outside ROOKIE STAR.
Approaching the 400 Metres, SHALLUCK got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MY BEAR CAT which came under pressure.
Passing the 400 Metres, GOUTEN OF GARO shifted in and brushed KINGSTON ONE. After this, GOUTEN OF GARO lay in.
A veterinary inspection of THE HAPPY BUNCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of MASSIVE MOVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HAVE FUN TOGETHER, LEAN PERFECTION and SUPER EIGHTEEN were sent for sampling.

Race: 2 (273) LUKFOOK JEWELLERY LOVE IS BEAUTY COLLECTION HANDICAP Class 5 1800 m
SUPERNATURAL began only fairly.
AMRITSARIA shifted out abruptly at the start, resulting in HAPPY BEAUTY being badly hampered and losing ground. AMRITSARIA again shifted out abruptly after travelling a short distance, resulting in CELESTIAL ARROW being inconvenienced. Following these incidents, both HAPPY BEAUTY and CELESTIAL ARROW were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Rounding the Home Turn, CELESTIAL ARROW was steadied away from the heels of SUPERNATURAL (M Chadwick) which shifted out when not properly clear. M Chadwick was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
The performance of GOLDEN PARTNERS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN PARTNERS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, K C Ng stated that he had to ride FAITHFUL BOY along in the early stages to cross AUDACITY so as to lead the race as instructed. He said after reaching the lead near the 1500 Metres, he attempted to steady the tempo on FAITHFUL BOY, but the horse travelled keenly and, despite his best endeavours, set a faster tempo in the lead than he had hoped. K C Ng was advised that whilst the Stewards acknowledged that he had to make some use of the horse in the early stages, in the circumstances, he should have made more of an effort to steady the tempo once he gained the lead. He was further advised to show the requisite judgement when leading races to ensure that his mounts can finish off as best as able.
A veterinary inspection of GOLDINGTON HORN immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea and also revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDINGTON HORN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
The Club’s Racing Medical Officer reported that U Rispoli, who was kicked on the right thigh when dismounting from GOLDEN PARTNERS, sustained no discernible injury and was fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements.

PROUD SKY and AUDACITY were sent for sampling.

Race: 3 (274) LUKFOOK JEWELLERY HUGGING FAMILY COLLECTION HANDICAP Class 5 1200 m
REAL DEAL was withdrawn on 15.12.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence) and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter GREAT WISDOM (A Badel). SEVEN LUCK was also withdrawn on 15.12.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (blood abnormality) and was replaced by second Standby Declared Starter MASSIVE POWER (Apprentice M F Poon). HELLO KIMBERLEY was withdrawn on 16.12.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, REAL DEAL, SEVEN LUCK and HELLO KIMBERLEY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
On arrival at the Start, the blinkers and hood applied to NICE FANDANGO were replaced due to the original piece of equipment being ill-fitting.
MASSIVE MILLENNIUM, which was fractious in the barriers, stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost a considerable amount of ground. GREAT WISDOM also stood flat-footed on jumping and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, MASSIVE MILLENNIUM and GREAT WISDOM will both be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
In the early stages, NICE FANDANGO was left racing wide and after the 800 Metres was allowed to improve its position to take up the lead after the 700 Metres.
Throughout the race, ACTUARIAT travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that in the Parade Ring and prior to entering the track VICTORY MUSIC appeared agitated and it was not until after the horse entered the track that it commenced to proceed to the Start more tractably. He said VICTORY MUSIC shifted out abruptly at the start and was reluctant to shift over towards the rail. He said he tried to ease the horse across to obtain a position closer to the inside rail in the early stages, however, for a considerable distance it got its head up and proved difficult to manage. He said then making the turn after the 700 Metres VICTORY MUSIC hung out. He added the more he tried to get the horse to corner, the more it appeared that VICTORY MUSIC fought against him and hung out badly rounding the Home Turn. He said he placed VICTORY MUSIC under pressure rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, however, it gave ground in the early part of Straight and for this reason he eased the horse down after the 300 Metres. He added when he did this VICTORY MUSIC commenced to shift out towards the outside rail. He said he did not fight against the horse given the manner in which it raced, however, as it got towards the outside rail, he was obliged to employ stronger corrective measures at which time VICTORY MUSIC became very unbalanced in its action. A veterinary inspection of VICTORY MUSIC immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration to the inside of the right hind pastern. The racing manners of VICTORY MUSIC were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VICTORY MUSIC must satisfactorily undertake a series of consecutive barrier trials around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
VICTORY MUSIC, NICE FANDANGO and AMBITIOUS SPEEDY were sent for sampling.

Race: 4 (275) LUKFOOK JEWELLERY PT GRACEFUL COLLECTION HANDICAP Class 4 1200 m
HUMBLE STEED was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, ELUSIVE STATE was crowded for room between RESPECT and UGLY WARRIOR which shifted out after being brushed by BEAUTY LOVE. In this incident, RESPECT lost ground after being bumped by ELUSIVE STATE. Then, despite being ridden along, RESPECT failed to muster speed.
From the outside barrier, SUPERIOR BOY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 900 Metres, LUCKY TIME became unbalanced when racing tight outside AASHIQUI.
Making the turn after the 700 Metres, RESPECT shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of AMAZING RACE and in doing so bumped CHATER THUNDER which was forced wider. CHATER THUNDER then lay out making the turn.
HUMBLE STEED made the turn after the 700 Metres awkwardly, got its head on the side and lay out.
Throughout the race, GRADE ONE travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of AASHIQUI, N Rawiller stated that after being able to obtain a forward position in the early stages, UGLY WARRIOR showed superior speed to AASHIQUI and he therefore allowed that horse to cross AASHIQUI after the 900 Metres as he would have had to ride his mount along in order to prevent UGLY WARRIOR from immediately crossing AASHIQUI. He said near the 800 Metres AASHIQUI got its head up when racing close to the heels of UGLY WARRIOR as a result of AASHIQUI being immature and not handling the slight change in tempo. He said after this AASHIQUI travelled well and rounding the Home Turn he anticipated that the horse would finish off the race well given that it was still travelling satisfactorily at this stage. He added in the early part of the Straight AASHIQUI came under pressure and then, despite being ridden out, gave ground noticeably over the latter stages of the race to finish at the rear of the field. A veterinary inspection of AASHIQUI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of AASHIQUI was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, AASHIQUI will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of RESPECT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that COURAGEOUS BROTHER was lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, COURAGEOUS BROTHER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

BIGWOOD was unable to obtain clear running until passing the 300 Metres prior to which BIGWOOD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHUNG WAH SPIRIT which got its head on the side and lay out under pressure. BIGWOOD then shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ARIZONA BLIZZARD passing the 250 Metres, causing that horse to become unbalanced and shift in which resulted in BIGWOOD being crowded for room between ARIZONA BLIZZARD and CHUNG WAH SPIRIT.
Approaching the 200 Metres, YOUNG LEGEND shifted out after being brushed by EASY GO EASY WIN.
When questioned, Trainer J Moore stated that he instructed Apprentice M F Poon to ride PRIMERO positively in the early stages so as to utilize its light weight and inside barrier. He said prior to being imported into Hong Kong, PRIMERO had been successful when being able to lead in a race and he felt that the circumstances of today’s race provided PRIMERO with the opportunity to obtain a forward position. He said in a number of its races since being imported into Hong Kong, PRIMERO had been ridden positively in an attempt to obtain the lead, however, had not been able to be as forward as had been hoped. He added he instructed Apprentice Poon to attempt to lead the race, however, if runners drawn widely were intent on leading, it was acceptable for him to take a sit.
A veterinary inspection of CHUNG WAH SPIRIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
EASY GO EASY WIN and AMAZING STAR were sent for sampling.

Race: 6 (277) LUKFOOK JEWELLERY DEAR Q COLLECTION HANDICAP Class 4 1400 m

Near the 1500 Metres, DASHING DART was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FLYING NOBLE (B Prebble) which shifted in acutely when not quite clear of that horse. B Prebble was severely reprimanded and warned against the practice of permitting his mounts to shift ground too sharply and also advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground.
Near the 1450 Metres, FRESH POWER was hampered when crowded for room between DASHING DART and WIN FOR GLORY (C Y Ho) which shifted in when not properly clear. C Y Ho was severely reprimanded and told to exercise more care.

Rounding the Home Turn, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING and GOOD DAYS raced tight.
AMBITIOUS PINS and AGREE had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Passing the 350 Metres, FRESH POWER was brushed by ENJOY LIFE which improved into tight running between that horse and DASHING DART. FRESH POWER then shifted out, resulting in ELECTRIC LIGHTNING being taken out onto GOOD DAYS which was inconvenienced.
For the majority of the race, FRESH POWER travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of AGREE and FLYING NOBLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of JOLLY GAINS immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, JOLLY GAINS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
INDIGENOUS STAR, ENJOY LIFE and GOOD DAYS were sent for sampling.

Race: 8 (279) THE LUKFOOK JEWELLERY CUP (HANDICAP) Class 3 1600 m
After being loaded into the barriers, DUKEDOM became very fractious and lunged at the front gates, resulting in the front gates opening. DUKEDOM was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, DUKEDOM will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
LOTUS BREEZE shifted out at the start, resulting in GRAND CHANCELLOR being crowded for room inside NEW ELEGANCE.
From the outside barrier, SMILING PRIDE was steadied shortly after the start and shifted across behind runners.
When being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover, FAITHFUL TRINITY got its head up and raced ungenerously in the early stages and in doing so bumped the hindquarters of ROUNDABOUT, causing both horses to become unbalanced. A short distance after this, FAITHFUL TRINITY became badly unbalanced when buffeted between ROUNDABOUT and SUCH A HAPPINESS which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
Passing the 1300 Metres, ROUNDABOUT got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover and awkwardly placed outside the heels of NEW ELEGANCE which shifted out.
Passing the 400 Metres, GREEN ENERGY and DUKEDOM raced tight as GREEN ENERGY improved into tight running between that horse and LOTUS BREEZE.
HOME RUN was unable to obtain clear running from on straightening until passing the 300 Metres.
TAI SMART was badly held up for clear running approaching and passing the 300 Metres and then over the concluding stages raced tight between ROUNDABOUT and GOLD LAND which initially shifted out and then itself was awkwardly placed outside the heels of GREEN ENERGY which shifted out under pressure.
When questioned, D Whyte stated that prior to the race both he and Mr C H Yip, the trainer of DUKEDOM, did not believe that today’s race would be run at a good tempo as there did not appear to be many horses engaged which had previously shown early speed. He said as DUKEDOM was stepping up in distance to 1600 Metres today, it was felt that there would be an opportunity, from the wide barrier, for DUKEDOM to obtain a position in advance of midfield. He said with the rail being in the widest position and with the anticipated slow tempo, it was felt that DUKEDOM would not be given the opportunity to finish off its race if it were to be ridden back in the field as had previously been the case. He added after riding DUKEDOM positively in the early stages, it appeared, after the 1300 Metres, that DUKEDOM may be able to shift in to race one horse off the rail, however, LOTUS BREEZE did not continue forward of PING HAI STAR and remained racing in a one-off position which resulted in DUKEDOM being left racing wide and without cover after the 1000 Metres. Mr Yip confirmed the instructions given to Jockey Whyte and the reasons for those instructions. He said, in his opinion, the makeup of today’s field together with the rail placement provided DUKEDOM with the opportunity to obtain a position in about midfield or just forward of midfield, however, the circumstances of the race in the early stages resulted in the horse having to cover ground.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that, from barrier 1, he was asked to ride PING HAI STAR positively in the early stages as, in the opinion of Trainer J Size, the horse had over-raced in the early stages at its most recent start when being steadied to obtain cover. He said he was also asked to have the horse racing where it was comfortable and if this meant leading, then this was acceptable, however, if there was good speed shown by other runners, it was equally acceptable to take a trailing position. He said after riding PING HAI STAR positively in the early stages and when other horses did not cross to lead, PING HAI STAR was able to lead the race on the rail without having to be pressured. He said however when LOTUS BREEZE and WINWIN RUBY raced outside PING HAI STAR in the middle stages, PING HAI STAR travelled keenly and consequently was not able to finish off the race strongly. He said, in his opinion, PING HAI STAR may be better suited by being able to take a trailing position without having to be restrained to do so.
PING HAI STAR, NEW ELEGANCE and GREEN ENERGY were sent for sampling.

Race: 9 (280) LUKFOOK JEWELLERY CONVERGENCE OF LOVE COLLECTION HANDICAP Class 3 1200 m

When being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier, HAPPY AGILITY got its head up, shifted out and bumped DOCTOR GEOFF.
From the outside barrier, WORLD RECORD was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, PINGWU SPARK and GOOD STANDING raced tight.
After the 1000 Metres, LIMITLESS commenced to travel keenly when awkwardly placed close to the heels of LITTLE DRAGON.
Also after the 1000 Metres, DOCTOR GEOFF was left racing wide and without cover and making the turn near the 900 Metres became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by PENANG HALL.
PINGWU SPARK was held up for clear running from on straightening until passing the 200 Metres.
K C Leung (PINGWU SPARK) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting out, resulting in PINGWU SPARK making heavy contact with EASTERN EXPRESS, causing that horse to become badly unbalanced and taken out onto BABA MAMA, causing BABA MAMA to be inconvenienced and EASTERN EXPRESS to be badly hampered. K C Leung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 27 December 2017 and to expire on Tuesday, 2 January 2018 which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Leung’s good race riding record.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on PENANG HALL at the request of Trainer D J Hall. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PENANG HALL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
