When questioned, Trainer A Lee stated that SWEET HOME had been ridden along to take up a forward position in most of its starts when trained by him and the horse to date had not been successful. He said from the horse’s wide barrier tonight he felt that there was an opportunity for SWEET HOME to be ridden more conservatively and obtain a position where it was comfortable and it was anticipated that this would be behind midfield. He said SWEET HOME had been somewhat disappointing in its failure to finish off its races strongly when ridden in a forward position and it was hoped that the horse may be able to find the line better if ridden conservatively in the early stages as it had previously, some time ago, finished off a race strongly in Class 3 when ridden from behind midfield. He added that unfortunately in tonight’s race SWEET HOME was not able to obtain cover and raced wide and along the Back Straight was allowed to improve its position towards the lead. Mr Lee was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he must ensure that, wherever possible, horses are ridden in a consistent manner. A veterinary inspection of SWEET HOME immediately following the race found that there was blood present at the right nostril. An endoscopic examination conducted on SWEET HOME confirmed the horse to have bled.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that CLEAR CHOICE had a small amount of blood in its mouth.
A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA ASPAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MANFUL STAR, BOLD STITCH and CLEAR CHOICE were sent for sampling.

As the start was effected, HAYMAKER put its head down and then stood flat-footed, resulting in the horse losing a considerable amount of ground. Having regard to HAYMAKER’s recent history in respect of being slow to begin, the Stewards ruled that the horse must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to being permitted to race again.
SCARBOROUGH FAIR shifted out at the start, resulting in TRENDIFUL being crowded for room inside OTOUTO. This resulted in all three horses becoming badly unbalanced.
A short distance after the start, GOLDEN GLORY got its head on the side and shifted out, resulting in SCARBOROUGH FAIR being taken out onto TRENDIFUL which became unbalanced when buffeted for room for some distance inside OTOUTO which also became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by TRENDIFUL.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, THE JOY OF GIVING raced in restricted room inside GREAT JOY which lay in when racing tight inside AEROLUMINANCE.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SPEEDY WALLY commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of MIDNITE PROMISE. After this, SPEEDY WALLY continued to prove difficult to settle for some distance.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, TELECOM SUN was left racing wide and without cover and was then allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead near the 1300 Metres at which time BO DUKE was left racing wide and without cover.
Approaching and passing the 1100 Metres, SPEEDY WALLY again commenced to race ungenerously and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of MIDNITE PROMISE. SPEEDY WALLY then shifted out from behind that horse, resulting in CROWN AVENUE being taken wider.
At the 900 Metres, MIDNITE PROMISE was hampered when unable to improve between GENTRY and CROWN AVENUE where there was not sufficient room.
TELECOM SUN commenced to give ground from the 750 Metres, resulting in GENTRY being momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of TELECOM SUN. Approaching the 600 Metres, when giving ground, TELECOM SUN got its head up and crowded SAVANNAH WIND. GREAT JOY was checked near the 550 Metres when unable to avoid TELECOM SUN which continued to give ground abruptly. TELECOM SUN then finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of TELECOM SUN immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Having regard to TELECOM SUN’s racing record and the degree of interference it caused in this race, the Stewards ruled that the horse will be required to perform satisfactorily in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
Approaching the 500 Metres, THE JOY OF GIVING was shifted out away from the heels of TELECOM SUN.
Passing the 250 Metres, GENTRY was shifted in away from the heels of MIDNITE PROMISE which shifted in under pressure.

MIDNITE PROMISE, CROWN AVENUE and HIGH VOLATILITY were sent for sampling.

Race: 5 (268) HIBISCUS HANDICAP Class 4 1650 m
On arrival at the Start, it was noted that NAMJONG INVINCIBLE had lost its left front plate. After this plate was refitted, NAMJONG INVINCIBLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
POLYMER LUCK shifted out at the start and bumped TRENDY WIN.
DUTCH WINDMILL began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, SUM WIN DRAGON shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of AMAZING FEELING which became unbalanced.
Passing the 1100 Metres, DUTCH WINDMILL and AMAZING FEELING raced tight.
Throughout the race, DUTCH WINDMILL travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that it had been intended for POLYMER LUCK to be ridden behind the leaders if possible. He said he rode his mount positively in the early stages to ensure that it was able to obtain a forward position. He said in the run to the winning post on the first occasion both NAMJONG INVINCIBLE and FIVE STARS AGENT were being hard ridden to take up a forward position. He said whilst it was available to him to continue to ride POLYMER LUCK along to maintain its position inside NAMJONG INVINCIBLE, he believed that he would have had to continue to pressure his mount and as NAMJONG INVINCIBLE had taken up a leading position, he elected to allow that horse to cross. He said he was happy with this position passing the 1300 Metres, however, NAMJONG INVINCIBLE was then steadied to allow CHARITY WINGS to cross near the 1200 Metres which resulted in POLYMER LUCK racing further back in the field than had been intended. He added that at the entrance to the Straight POLYMER LUCK was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of NAMJONG INVINCIBLE which shifted in. He said, when being ridden out, POLYMER LUCK was inclined to lay in as it had done in some its races in the past. He said this resulted in POLYMER LUCK being awkwardly placed outside the heels of CHARITY WINGS over the concluding stages, resulting in him being unable to properly test his mount all the way to the end of the race.
A veterinary inspection of HINYUEN SWIFTNESS and DUTCH WINDMILL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

N Rawiller was advised that whilst he had taken measures to prevent LAND GRANT from shifting out further, nonetheless he was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Over the concluding stages, ISHVARA was awkwardly placed inside the heels of CHATER LEGEND.
When questioned, S Clipperton stated that he is familiar with OUTLAWED having previously ridden it on a number of occasions. He said he was asked to ride OUTLAWED "aggressively” and ensure that he was able to build up momentum on the horse as the connections did not want OUTLAWED to be left flat-footed when the tempo of the race increased. He said for this reason he shifted OUTLAWED out from behind LAND GRANT and improved around that horse to race outside the leader CALIFORNIA JOY at the 800 Metres. He said he was concerned that CALIFORNIA JOY was dictating the tempo of the race as it had established an uncontested lead in the middle stages and therefore he felt that it was in OUTLAWED’s best interests to work forward of LAND GRANT as he was aware that CALIFORNIA JOY would increase the tempo of the race at a later stage which would not suit OUTLAWED were it to remain racing behind LAND GRANT. Trainer P F Yiu confirmed the instructions given to S Clipperton and stated that they were consistent with what he had previously given in respect of this horse. He said he was therefore satisfied with Jockey Clipperton’s decision to improve his position near the 800 Metres. A veterinary inspection of OUTLAWED immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, OUTLAWED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
