Cold snap forces Uttoxeter to abandon as inspections pile up

The cold snap continues to take its toll on the racing calendar as Uttoxeter has been forced to cancel Tuesday's card and other courses around Britain have scheduled inspections.

Officials at Uttoxeter called an 8am inspection on Monday morning and there was no hope with the track under a couple of inches of snow.

The track tweeted: "Racing tomorrow is now abandoned, 2-3 inches of snow lying, temperatures struggling to rise above zero. -6c to -10c tonight. Minimal chance of recovery. Sorry for any inconvenience, we hope to see you soon."

Ayr will inspect at 9am on Tuesday for the meeting that day in light of low temperatures. The course tweeted: "There will be a precautionary inspection at @ayrracecourse tomorrow morning at 9am. The entire track has been covered since Friday and the going was soft, heavy in places before that. Temperatures reached low of -6C last night.

Hexham and Leicester will hold inspections at 7.30am on Tuesday for Wednesday's meetings.

Hexham clerk of the course James Armstrong tweeted: "Inspection @HexhamRaces on Tues at 7.30am before declarations currently frozen in places. Temps dropped again & currently -6c & further low temps this eve."

Warwick will inspect at 8am on Wednesday for Thursday's fixture after "persistent snow" fell on Sunday.
