Friday meeting preview
Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.
While most scribes have Vlad Duric’s name more than penciled in for the 2017 Singapore Champion Jockey, the hoop himself will want to put the Premiership to bed on Friday, the penultimate meeting of the season.
The affable Aussie would break a Brazilian stranglehold on the coveted trophy and a six-win lead on Manny Nunes with some twenty races to go looks a comfortable gap.
But Nunes could open the card with a win on GREAT SEVEN and should be hard to beat on RED RIDING WOOD in race 5.
Any more wins for the Brazilian would be a surprise but Duric would want to at least match him on the night and, as expected, has a solid book of rides.
A raced newcomer in race 3 - ELITE INVINCIBLE - looks to have every chance on the back of a nice trial while the maiden RACE FOR FAME looks as good as chance as any in race 5.
LIBECCIO (race 6) is another maiden who could use the Duric polish while last start winner, KINGSMAN, will have admirers in race 8.
The lucky last could be just that for Vlad as he partners the smart ELITE POWER, who won at Listed level as a 2YO in the UK and has looked very good at his local trials.
May the best man win!
Best Bets: (WEBSTER race 8, win), (ABSOLUTE MIRACLE race 7, each-way) and (CASING ROYAL race 3, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 6 (4, 5, 6 and 9), race 7 (1 and 2), race 8 (1, 3, 4 and 7), race 9 (1, 2, 3 and 4).

Selections; 1 GREAT SEVEN - 8 MASTERMIND - 3 SOON YI - 5 DIVERGENT
A weak Class 5 sprint to open the last Friday evening meeting of the season and while he faces an uphill battle to retain his Jockey Premiership title, Manny Nunes can add another win to his tally with GREAT SEVEN. The 5YO is a maiden but is in solid form in similar affairs and from gate 1 he gets his chance. MASTERMIND might be his biggest danger. The 8YO looks hopelessly out of form but find himself in the right Company and over the right trip so a very cheeky run is expected. SOON YI also appreciates this Company and a win would not surprise while SWEET BUDDY had excuses last start (roarer) and would give this a shake on best form. BEST JADE and GOLDEN SPARK two others to include in exotics. Betting Strategy - Manny Nunes to go down fighting and win on GREAT SEVEN.
1 GREAT SEVEN *** Maiden who is due and gets his chance from gate 1 with Nunes to ride. 2.00
2 SPEEDY NANCHO * Hopeless on form but should appreciate Class 5 and gets blinkers first time. 50
3 SOON YI *** Just battled last start but last win was over this trip and should figure in this Company. 6.00
4 SWEET BUDDY *** Returned a roarer when disappointing last start but wins a race like this if right. 12
5 DIVERGENT * Better effort last start but wide gate over this trip a concern. 33
6 GOLDEN SPARK ** Just fair last start but gets blinkers back and should improve. 12
7 HEE'S FORTE * Will appreciate better gate but battling of late and needs to lift. 33
8 MASTERMIND *** Form reads very badly but has speed and can win back in Class 4. 6.00
9 TOP BANANA * Struggles. 100
10 BEST JADE ** Wide gate a concern but did it tough last start and worth a look on best form. 6.00
11 LAND BELOW D WIND * Better option on the turf over longer. 50
12 SILENT CONNECTION * Headgear removed but easier to ignore. 100
13 HOT GOLD ** Gets tongue-tie after just fair effort last start and could sneak place in this weak field. 20
14 RACING TALENT * Blinkers off after struggling of late and easier to ignore. 50
Selections; 6 GRAND CHOICE - 12 VISTARA - 5 FUSION POWER - 1 SATTAR
A terrific Restricted Maiden with two smart types in SATTAR and FUSION POWER both hoping to turn some good race form into a much needed win and at least two newcomers in GRAND CHOICE and VISTARA both looking to have more than their fair share of ability. And to make it interesting for punters, both newcomers are from the Dan Meagher stable and both have had plenty of impressive trials. GRAND CHOICE has looked the standout on paper but not much separates the pair and the tote may be a good guide. BEAUTIFUL DAY and ITALIAN MASTER just two other debutantes who have trialled well enough to keep safe and a market watch on the others. As mentioned, both SATTAR and FUSION POWER (who gets blinkers) are overdue to win given heavy support and must be respected. Betting Strategy - GRAND CHOICE win, swinger with VISTARA.
1 SATTAR *** Drawn wide and has been beaten as favourite at all five starts but has to win soon. 5.00
2 MASTER MINER ** Solid without being a threat last start and exotics look best over this trip. 20
3 BEAUTIFUL DAY ** Has looked capable at the trials and should give a good account of himself on debut. 20
4 CENTURION * Drawn wide and hard to have on exposed trial form. 100
5 FUSION POWER *** Beaten as even money favourite last start but gets blinkers and another that wins sooner than later. 5.00
6 GRAND CHOICE *** Has been ultra impressive at the trials and hard to beat on debut. 3.00
7 HUN YEANG ROAD ** Resuming after two solid efforts as a 2YO and pay to respect on the back of some good recent trials. 12
8 ITALIAN MASTER ** Another debutante who has trialled like he knows a bit about the caper and a forward run expected. 20
9 LUCKY VICTORY ** Solid at the trials and gets Nunes so worth thought on debut. 20
10 SATELLITE WARRIOR ** Did enough at the trials to keep an eye on market form gate 1 but has found a tough maiden field. 33
11 TAUROS ** A long way from the winner last start but in the place mix. 33
12 VISTARA *** Another debutante who has looked impressive at the trials and can win with support likely. 5.00
13 KISS YOUR SONG ** Resuming with some solid trial sunder his belt and should improve with racing. 20
14 BRIMSTONE * Gets blinkers and needs to show more. 100
Selections; 3 MONTAIGNE - 1 ELITE INVINCIBLE - 8 CASING ROYAL - 4 BARNATO
Plenty of solid form to go on in this Class 4 Poly sprint and MONTAIGNE from the Shane Baertschiger stable looks as good as place as any to start. The 5YO looked the winner everywhere bar the post last start and given he handles the Poly and is an honest type, a forward run under Oscar Chavez is expected. In his favour is he has drawn inside the likes of BARNATO, CASING ROYAL and SUPERSONICSURPRISE who can all win but have all drawn wide while the newcomer from the UK (via Dubai) in ELITE INVINCIBLE could easily show up at his Singapore debut on the back of some good local trial form. Betting Strategy - MONTAIGNE win, saver on CASING ROYAL at odds.
1 ELITE INVINCIBLE *** Raced newcomer from the UK via Dubai and trials well enough locally to win at Singapore debut. 6.00
2 FORTUNE SIX * Showed little at Singapore debut but had support and should improve for the outing. 33
3 MONTAIGNE *** Looked the winner everywhere bar the post last start and more than handles the Poly so right in this. 4.00
4 BARNATO *** Wide gate a concern but racing and trialling well and often each-way value. 8.00
5 SOUTHERN MAN ** Did it tough when resuming and should improve at odds from nice gate. 33
6 TALES OF SUMMER * Only battled late last start in this Company after KSD win and rarely seen on the Poly so take on trust. 20
7 WHOSE ELSE'S ** Battled on well last start and get the ace but may be better suited on the turf over longer. 12
8 CASING ROYAL *** Never involved last start but handles the Poly and will pop up at odds in this Company sooner than later. 20
9 SUPERSONICSURPRISE *** Had plenty of support when disappointing last start but has to be respected on form prior. 6.00
10 MIKCAIPHO ** In solid form and plays a part in this finish from gate 2. 8.00
11 NOVA STORM ** Did himself no favours in running before flying late to break maiden status last start. This is tougher but keep safe. 6.00
12 GOLDEN MILE * Won well enough in Class 5 last start but this is much tougher and wide gate a concern. 20
13 FLASH ONE ** Last start better than the result and always some hope on the Poly. 33
14 JUSTICE GRACE * Resuming and needs much longer. 100
Selections; 6 BASILISK - 7 D'GREAT STAR - 5 RACE FOR FAME - 3 BATTLE PLAN
While it may be six-of-one and half-a-dozen of the other, Restricted Maiden form should hold up in this WFA Open Maiden and BASILISK could be hard to beat. The 3YO carried 52kg when running Don De La Vega to half-a-length last start over this trip and given he gets to jump from gate 3 in this field, he should make the running and be hard to run down. The barriers will also play a big part in the fortunes of D'GREAT STAR who should get the favours from gate 1 after a tough run last start, while BATTLE PLAN could be close enough in running from gate 3 to have a big say late. COUNTRY BOSS, INFANTRY ECLIPSE, RACE FOR FAME and PARADOR four others that are in the winning mix in what could be a competitive maiden. Betting Strategy - BASILISK win.
1 ANGHIARI ** Shows glimpses in better Company so pay to keep safe back in trip. 20
2 COUNTRY BOSS *** Placed last start on the Poly in Class 5 and looks suited over 1400m in Maiden Company. 6.00
3 BATTLE PLAN *** Ran on very well in similar affair last start at odds and pay to follow on that effort. 8.00
4 INFANTRY ECLIPSE *** Super disappointing last start with heavy support but worth another look with blinkers and tongue-tie off. 12
5 RACE FOR FAME *** In the winning mix last start in similar affair and expect much the same. 8.00
6 BASILISK *** Just missed in Restricted Maiden Company last start and hard to beat from gate 3 with 53kg. 3.00
7 D'GREAT STAR *** Did it very tough last start from wide gate and ran on well enough to seriously consider from the ace. 6.00
8 PARADOR *** Coming off a shocker over the mile but pay to ignore as previous form has him winning soon. 7.00
9 BURGUNDY PRINCE * Needs to show something before considering. 200
10 BALL AND CHAIN * Trouble and strife. 200
11 YELLOW GOLD * OK work late last start but still needs to show more. 100
12 CROWN DELIGHT * Last start better than the result but wide gate makes this tough. 33
13 GOLDEN FATKID * Ran on OK very late last start but wide gate suggests another time. 100
14 HENG KINGDOM ** Ran on late last start over 1200m so can figure over extra trip. 20
15 ELITE ROCKET * Impossible on form. 200
16 GANGNAM CLASSIC * No. 200
Selections; 1 RED RIDING WOOD - 10 MOON RIVER - 12 GRAND PARIS - 8 MONGOLIAN CHIEF
It's always hard to be confident in Class 5 races over two bends but RED RIDING WOOD broke his maiden status in fine style last start and happy to think he is hard to beat again. That win was over 1700m but his work to the line suggests he could improve again over 1800m with gate 1 a factor. Who beats him? Oddly, two horses down in the ratings in MOON RIVER and GRAND PARIS could be the dangers. MOON RIVER has been running on well of late and looks due while GRAND PARIS won two starts back and looked to have something in the tank last start so can win again. But these races are raffles so watch the tote for nay stable confidence on the others and go as wide as you can in exotics. Betting Strategy - RED RIDING HOOD win.
1 RED RIDING WOOD *** Broke maiden status in this Company over 1700m last start and only has 2kg extra to carry. Can win. 3.00
2 THREE LIONS ** Maiden who appreciates first-up run and best effort was this track, trip and Company so keep safe. 12
3 CHAIRMAN WIND ** Looked to have every chance in similar affair last start but battled away and worth another look. 6.00
4 QUETZAL ** Disappointing last start and drawn badly but always an each-way hope in this type of race. 12
5 SATELLITE STAR * Did it tough last start when showing little when asked but some hope on best form. 20
6 CLUTHA LAD ** Did it tough wide last start and not a mile away so worth thought from gate 3. 8.00
7 HERO IN THE WIND ** Disappointing last start in maiden Company but cheeky efforts prior in Class 5 has him under notice. 20
8 MONGOLIAN CHIEF ** Placed last start behind Red Riding Wood and always some hope in race like this. 8.00
9 BERLINETTA * Gets tongue-tie but hard to have on race form. 100
10 MOON RIVER *** Has been running on well over 1700m and can figure in this finish if closer when needed. 6.00
11 TOOBIGTOFAIL * Could improve on recent efforts from gate 4. 33
12 GRAND PARIS *** Looked to have something in the tank late last start and happy to follow on win two starts back. 16
13 ARCHER COMPANY ** Not a mile away last start behind Red Riding Wood but wide gate makes this tough. 20
14 KASHAN * Easier to ignore. 100
Selections; 5 HOWL - 6 SIX EMPIRE - 9 CERDAN - 4 LIBECCIO
The one thing that is for sure in this maiden is that there should be a solid clip early. In fact most of those with winning hopes should be on the pace early including LIBECCIO who has drawn widest but should press forward. But he will have HOWL and CERDAN to contend with as these two led with purpose last start and you expect much the same in this. Of the two, HOWL probably has more upside given he has only three runs without a win as CERDAN - who does get the favours from gate two - has had some 19 tries and is making a habit of finding one better. Of the others, SIX EMPIRE has his foot well and truly on the till and wins without surprising for Oscar Chavez while market best guide on the chances of the two newcomers from the Saimee camp, OHYIOH and EVIL WESLEY. Betting Strategy - Box 4, 5, 6 and 9 in a trifecta.
1 OHYIOH ** Former Kiwi who only managed a fourth from two starts before arrival but has trialled well locally so keep safe. 20
2 EVIL WESLEY * Australian maiden who didn't show up at his local trial so market only guide. 33
3 WEST NORTH HILL * OK late on a leaders biased track last start but needs to show more before considering. 33
4 LIBECCIO *** Drawn very wide but should go forward and in this for a very long time on what he showed last start. 6.00
5 HOWL *** Found out late after leading with a purpose over 1400m last start and happy to think he can what is a suitable race. 3.00
6 SIX EMPIRE *** Foot on the till and plays a part in this finish. 5.00
7 MONSTER ENERGY ** Will strip fitter for first-up run and could be a good value option in skinny end of exotics. 33
8 BRING ME JOY ** In the place mix over 1400m last start and can figure again back in trip with blinkers off. 12
9 CERDAN *** Refuses to run a bad race but also refuses to win so take on trust. 6.00
10 SATELLITE MASTER ** Improved in Class 5 sans blinkers on the back of a good trial and pay to follow. 12
11 ALRINA * Thereabouts as a rule but yet to place in seven starts. 20
12 POWER WARRIOR * Goes OK on his day but will need some luck from awkward gate. 20
13 SUPER DAN * Did nothing when resuming on poly for new stable but best efforts have been on turf and could be running on. 50
14 NATURAL WATER * No. 200
15 MIRACLE KID * Can run on OK when in the mood but place looks best. 50
16 ENERGIZER ** Backing up from OK run last start and can be included in exotics. 20
Selections; 1 ABSOLUTE MIRACLE - 2 IRON MAN - 9 BATTLE OF TROY - 10 SIAMESE CAT
After making it back-to-back wins with a dominant victory over this trip last start, IRON MAN looks the horse punters will jump up on. The 5YO has drawn wide again but Vorster will push forward and try to make the running and with any luck early, he will be hard to beat. But he will be short in the betting and ABSOLUTE MIRACLE could be the biggest danger at odds. The 5YO was more than competitive in the four-year-old series and while not placing at Group 1 level, he wasn't far away from the likes of ALIBI and INFANTRY. That form more than holds up here and he could be hard to hold out over his only winning trip. Of the others, BATTLE OF TROY is up in class but will enjoy getting back on turf over his favourite trip, as will SIAMESE CAT who has a similar form line. FLAK JACKET has speed and AL GREEN is capable of improvement but 1400m can test. Betting strategy - ABSOLUTE MIRACLE each-way.
1 ABSOLUTE MIRACLE *** Will find this Company and distance to his liking and hard to hold out late. 12
2 IRON MAN *** In good form and ran fourth in this company three starts back. Awkwardly drawn but should be hard to hold out. 4.00
3 WHITE HUNTER ** Has struggled since resuming but will find this easier and last win was this class and distance. 5.00
4 AWESOME * Turf tests. 20
5 ELITE STAR ** Not often seen on the turf of late but form good enough to consider. 20
6 FLAK JACKET ** Not far away at recent outings but yet to win beyond 1200m. Has speed and should be prominent for a long way. 8.00
7 CERTAINLY ** Never involved last start but gets Michael Rodd and could be running on. 20
8 AL GREEN ** Disappointed when supported last start but previous efforts sound and could appreciate 1400m. 8.00
9 BATTLE OF TROY ** Up in class but will enjoy getting back on turf over favourite trip. Should get a good run throughout. 6.00
10 SIAMESE CAT ** Up in class but in good form and recent trial was sound. Should be handy throughout. 12
11 LIM'S KNIGHT ** Backing up after fighting on solidly over this trip last week. Has no weight and should be prominent. 10
12 BANDIDO * Up in class after only battling last start and best form is on poly. 50
Selections; 7 WEBSTER - 1 ELUSIVE EMPEROR - 3 LIM'S SHOT - 4 CHALAZA
Another competitive affair, this one a Class 3 over 1200m. The promising WEBSTER has won all three turf outings and goes up 2kg on his win in Class 3 last start. John Powell will need to overcome the bad gate but the pair will be hard to hold out late. The value may lie with the Lee Freedman-trained LIM'S SHOT which was run down on the poly last start but placed this class and distance three starts back; he is well-drawn and with Daniel Moor to ride should be on the speed throughout. ELUSIVE EMPEROR has been improved by recent racing and will appreciate the drop in class; he rises 6.5kg but should be handy throughout. Of the other main chances CHALAZA and SIR ISAAC are consistent sorts but find it hard to win while last start winner, KINGSMAN, and BEAR WITNESS are worthy of consideration. Betting strategy - WEBSTER win.
1 ELUSIVE EMPEROR *** Improved by recent racing and will appreciate drop in class. Rises 6.5kg but should be handy throughout. 5.00
2 LIGHTNING FAST * Will improve with racing this campaign but a better option on the Poly. 20
3 LIM'S SHOT *** Run down on poly last start but placed this class and distance three starts back. Well-drawn and should be on the speed throughout. 4.00
4 CHALAZA *** Rarely far away but has been finding it hard to win. Will be running on. 10
5 DINGHU MOUNTAIN ** Only battled last start and drawn wide but drop back to 1200m looks a good move. 20
6 SIR ISAAC ** Finds it hard to win but gets a gear change and should be running on. 10
7 WEBSTER *** Won well in this company last start to remain undefeated at three starts on the turf and hard to beat again. 5.00
8 B'NEVAGIVUP ** Resumed solidly on poly and better suited on turf. Likes to go forward and gate no help. 33
9 KINGSMAN ** Had support and won narrowly at Singapore debut. This is harder but Vlad Duric stays on and gets gate 1 so respect. 12
10 CAMBRIDGE * Only battled when resuming and best form is over longer. 33
11 KOLOMBIA * Has some speed and may be a good value option for exotics back on the turf. 33
12 BEAR WITNESS ** Racing soundly. This company can test but has speed and should be prominent for a long way. 12
13 ELITE BEAST ** Resuming. Was showing promise over a mile last preparation and pay to keep safe. 25
14 SUPER LINE * Not far away at recent outings but best form is on poly. 20
15 LIFE IS GAMBLE ** Freshen with good trial and pay to keep safe as looks a handy enough type. 33
16 JUSTICE DAY ** Yet to win in Singapore but more than competitive on his day. 50
Selections; 4 BE BEE - 2 ELITE POWER - 1 BIRAZ - 3 SUN DREAM
A Class 4 on the poly over 1200m marks the return of the promising BE BEE. The now 3YO showed plenty of ability as a juvenile winning the Golden Horseshoe, has been trialling well and could be hard to hold off fresh. In saying that, the newcomer from the UK, ELITE POWER, also won a black-type as a 2YO and a recent trial suggests he can win at his Singapore debut. Of the rest, KATAGAS hasn't won for a long time but is rarely far away in this company while SUN DREAM won well on debut and has to be respected. Keep BIRAZ safe as he had excuses last start (debris in trachea). Betting strategy - market watch on ELITE POWER, box 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in a first four.
1 BIRAZ *** Excuses last start when supported (debris in trachea) and well worth a look on Poly form prior. 10
2 ELITE POWER *** Former UK galloper who won at Listed Company as a 2YO before a solid 3YO season. Trials good enough to win this. 8.00
3 SUN DREAM *** Freshened with quiet trials after strong Singapore debut win and pay to follow. 6.00
4 BE BEE *** Resuming after showing plenty of ability as a juvenile when winning the Golden Horseshoe. Trialling well could be hard to hold off fresh. 3.00
5 KATAGAS *** Winkers off. Hasn't won for a long time but rarely far away in this company and should be running on. 8.00
6 SOUTHERN DRAGON ** Not far away last start and subsequent trials have been fair. Should get a good run throughout. 12
7 BEST WISHES * Won in this class two starts back but did nothing on poly at first start for new stable and best form is on turf. 20
8 NORTHERN PRINCE ** Did enough late at Singapore debut to think he improves for the run so keep safe at odds. 33
9 MASTER OF MALIBU * Dropped out last start over a mile but gets winkers and only win was this trip on poly. 33
10 TARGET ** Has had support at recent outings and not been far away. Well-drawn and should be prominent. 12
11 KING KONG * Struggled when resuming but has trialled well since. Only win was on turf but could be running on. 50
12 RAFALE ** Excuses last start after sold effort start prior so keep safe at odds in exotics. 50
13 PREFERRED ** Ran on soundly in this company at first start for new trainer. Should be running on. 10
14 LUCKY MISSION * Only battled when resuming. Should be improved but might need easier. 33
