Friday meeting preview

Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

A solid Friday night eight-race meeting with the depth of the card ensuring some good races early, including a Class 4 Poly sprint to open proceedings.

MAXIMUS probably starts favourite in the 1100m dash and his first-up win in a similar field was full of merit.

But the 6YO won’t get it all his own way with the 3YO filly, BRINGER OF WAR, looking well-placed to show her best with just 49kg to carry from gate 2 while a newcomer in WHITE CHIN could trump them all after some eye-catching local trials and showing a liking for all weather tracks back in the UK.

The second division of the Class 4 1,100m sprint bookends the meeting and MOKASTAR - who just missed behind MAXIMUS in a similar affair at his last start - will be hard to beat.

In fact he was unlucky not to hold on after looking the winner everywhere bar the last stride on that occasion and bar AUTUMN RUSH resuming, he looks to have most others covered.

Elsewhere on the card, LIM’S BLAST looks to have a bright future and can win again in race 7 while a couple of Al-Ariba-owned maidens in ZA’EEM (race 2) and RAHEEB (race 4) should also be hard to beat.

Best Bets: (LIM’S MAGIC race 7, win), (ACE HARBOUR race 5, value) and (MIGHTY CONQUEROR race 6, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 5 (1, 3 and 4), race 6 (1, 3, 4, 8 and 10), race 7 (1, 3, 4, 5, 9 and 10), race 8 (1, 2 and 7).

Race 1
With a newcomer from the UK and two handy Poly sprinters resuming, the trial form is going to play a big part in the opener. The newcomer is WHITE CHIN who has two wins on his CV and more importantly both were on a synthetic track. His local trials have been good and a big Kranji debut is expected with M Rodd from gate 3 a factor. SOUTHERN MAN and ENTHUSE are two handy enough types resuming and both have also trialled well enough to consider with ENTHUSE the pick of the two given he gets to jump from gate 5 sans tongue-tie. MAXIMUS brought good trial form to his first-up run and got the chocolates after a tough run in transit so he can win again from a better gate while BRINGER OF WAR will appreciate a 4kg claim and a nice gate and she will be in this a very long way. Betting Strategy - BRINGER OF WAR (value) each-way.
1 MAXIMUS *** Resumed with tough win on the back of a good trial and goes close again. 4.00
2 SOUTHERN MAN *** Resuming with good trial under his belt after blowing the start at his last run. Big show. 6.00
3 WHITE CHIN *** Former UK sprinter who has two wins on the synthetic to his name. Local trials good enough to win this. 5.00
5 BEST WISHES ** Backed up good Poly run with a turf win in this Company and pay to follow. 12
6 DOUBLE RAINBOW * Just battling this campaign. 50
7 ENTHUSE *** Resuming sans tongue-tie after a very good run of Poly form and trials good enough to show up. 5.00
8 BRINGER OF WAR *** Filly who has ability and gets her chance from gate 2 with 4kg claimer. 6.00
9 HERO CHAMPION * Nothing last start but will appreciate drop back to 1100m. 33
10 PREFERRED ** Finds it hard to win but always thereabouts on the Poly and a must for exotics. 8.00
11 SWIFT * Coming off a shocker and needs much easier. 200
12 SNIP * Struggling and wide gate doesn't help. 50

Race 2
While not entirely a race in two, punters do look to have a choice between ZA'EEM and YU LONG EMPEROR with both horses coming off eye-catching last start second placings. Of the two, ZA'EEM gets a gear change - blinkers on - and also gets to jumps from gate 1, which are two factors in his favour. He also appreciates the first up run and given his good maiden form from NZ, he is the one to beat. YU LONG EMPEROR has been impressive at his last couple and you would imagine he will be hard to hold out with some luck in running. It will pay to keep the like of EL TORDILLO and DARC BELT safe while KEEP WINNING is also in the mix with just 48kg to carry. Betting Strategy - ZA'EEM win and couple with YU LONG EMPEROR in a swinger.
1 ZA'EEM *** Looked a good thing beaten at Singapore debut and hard to beat with blinkers added from gate 1. 2.40
2 ELITE GOLD * Irregular heart rhythm last start but hard to have on form prior. 50
3 EL TORDILLO *** Has run on well at most starts so mile should suit and should figure late. 6.00
4 VALERIUS * Struggling. 50
5 YU LONG EMPEROR *** Can find his own trouble but just missed at his last couple and will be flying late again. 3.00
6 ENERGIZER ** Form reads badly but ran on OK late last start and can figure in exotics at value. 20
7 CAPE LINCOLN * Gets blinkers after two poor runs and have to take on trust. 50
8 DARC BELT *** Drawn wide and looked to have every chance last start but improving with racing and have to consider. 8.00
9 KEEP WINNING *** Worked home well late last start to place and expect much the same with no weight and 1600m in his favour. 8.00
10 GOOD WARRIOR * Struggling. 100
11 YELLOW GOLD * Headgear removed but impossible on form. 200
12 ROUGHEAD * Will improve with experience but like to see more. 100
Race 3
While it's hard to argue with the recent winning form of DREAM COMES TRUE and others with solid form leading into this KSC Poly sprint, nothing jumps off the page to win which may give RED DAWN his chance. The 6YO has been in very honest form and should enjoy both the step up to 1200m and the company. DREAM COMES TRUE will find this tougher than last start but with three wins from his last five starts, he has stepped up when needed and will carry 1kg less than last start. Two at value might be ANONYMOUS - who will be flying late - and PIONEER SEVEN who is suited in this company and looks well placed with a 2kg claim. BATTLE OF TROY and perhaps JULIUS CAESAR two others to keep safe. Betting Strategy - RED DAWN win, saver at value on PIONEER SEVEN.
1 PIONEER SEVEN *** Just battled last start form prior OK and suited this Company with 2kg claim. Keep safe. 9.00
2 CASTOR * Mixing his form and mixing his distances and have to take on trust. 20
3 BATTLE OF TROY *** Placed over 1700m last start and rarely seen at this trip but in form and could play a part late. 4.00
4 RED DAWN *** In form and trip and track suits with blinkers removed. Big show. 2.40
5 ANONYMOUS *** Never in the hunt last start but pay to follow on what he showed two back with best work expected late. 20
6 DREAM COMES TRUE *** Hard to fault winning form and have to respect with 3kg claim. 4.00
7 JULIUS CAESAR ** Disappointing last start but gets blinkers and worth thought on best form. 8.00
8 KEEPITUP * Reassess over longer in easier Company. 50
9 SUGARTIME JAZZ * Back in trip and up in Class. No. 50

Race 4
A small field and while RAHEEB might be hard to beat and will start a short priced favourite, you could make case for four or so others. But RAHEEB looked to have run into a very nice type in Nowyousee when resuming and you would think he has most of this field covered with improvement likely on the back of a subsequent good trial. Of those that keep him honest, both KRANJI GOLD and PER INCHARGE improve on good debut runs and with a handy 4kg claim, it may be the latter who is hardest to hold out late. ONLY WIN gives weight all round but is in form and picks himself while BORN TO BE KING has showed enough at the trials to consider at his race debut. Betting Strategy - RAHEEB win.
1 ONLY WIN *** Freshened after good run of form and can consider on trial form sans tongue-tie. 6.00
2 PEARL JUSTICE * Japanese filly who will need support on exposed trial form. 50
3 EVIL SPEEDO * Hard to have on recent form. 50
4 BORN TO BE KING *** Street Cry 3YO who has trialled well enough to consider on debut with G Boss from gate 2. 6.00
5 KRANJI GOLD *** Had support when placing on debut and doesn't have to improve much to win this. 4.00
6 MAGIC EMPEROR * Prefer others on exposed local trial form. 33
7 PER INCHARGE *** Loomed some hope when making run on debut and improves for the effort with 4kg climb a smart move. 4.00
8 RAHEEB *** Beaten by a nice type when resuming and hard to hold out in this field. 2.60
Race 5
There looks to be three form lines to follow in this Class 5 Poly mile and while THE ONE and BIG GUARDIAN have good Class 5 form to their names, it may be a maiden in ACE HARBOUR who is hardest to beat. True, he only has one placing to his name from some eight-career starts, but he wasn't far away at his two starts this trip and track and he can win with B Vorster up. Not much separates THE ONE and BIG GUARDIAN on what we saw last start in what looked a solid Class 5 mile form line although BIG GUARDIAN does have a wide gate to contend with. POWERFUL AS WIND and the second emergency, MILITARY ALLIANCE, have form in slightly easier Class 5 company but can be considered. Betting Strategy - ACE HARBOUR each-way.
1 ACE HARBOUR *** Maiden who will appreciate Class 5 Company and has shown enough to win with gate 1 a factor. 6.00
2 PEER GYNT ** Not a mile away last start and drops in grade so could improve again at odds. 33
3 BIG GUARDIAN *** Wide gate a concern but will win sooner or later in a race like this so keep safe. 5.00
4 THE ONE *** Did it relatively tough in similar affair last start so effort to place was good and hard to hold out in this. 3.00
5 MUSCULAR CAPTAIN * Recent trial OK but needs to lift on recent poor form. 33
6 SPIRIT SEVEN * Struggled of late. 100
7 BERLINETTA * Will appreciate Class 5 but hard to have on maiden form. 50
8 POWERFUL AS WIND ** Gave them something to catch last start with support in slightly easier affair and expect much the same. 5.00
9 CARNELIAN ** Gets upgrade to blinkers and honest enough to give this a shake. 6.00
10 GREEN RUTILE * Gets blinkers but struggles. 100
11 YOURSTOKEEP ** Has placed trip and track and recent form suggests he can be included in exotics. 12
12 KASHAN * Did it very tough last start and gets blinkers but still needs to show more. 20
13 TOP NOTE * Needs to improve on recent efforts but may appreciate stepping up to the mile. 33
14 MILITARY ALLIANCE ** This is harder than last start but in form and should figure in the mix. 8.00
Race 6
A tricky race for pundits and punters alike with three horses with winning hopes on best form coming off very disappointing runs. MIGHTY CONQUEROR is one of those and we could make excuses for his poor efforts of late in better Company and he gets his chance with a 2kg claim from gate 3. JELLY BEAN and LIM'S SHOT also come off disappointing runs and while it was hard to find an excuse for those poor efforts, it was also hard to fault their form prior and both are well and truly in the mix. No such form problem for TERMS OF REFERENCE who won well in Class 4 last start and SILKINO looks a progressive Poly sprinter who shows up without surprising. Betting Strategy - MIGHTY CONQUEROR each-way, box 1, 3, 4, 8 and 10 in a trifecta.
1 MIGHTY CONQUEROR *** Did it tough (again) in running last start in better Company and happy to follow in this field from gate 3. 6.00
2 SANDTOP * Will appreciate the Company but needs to show more than he has in Singapore. 50
3 JELLY BEAN *** Only battled last start but a big hope on very good form prior. 6.00
4 LIM'S SHOT *** Another who struggled last start but previous form sound and should figure. 5.00
5 MR LUCK ** Always some show on the Poly and could be a good each-way option. 12
6 BRING MONEY HOME * Back in trip after two poor runs and have to take on trust. 50
7 DARCI CHARMER ** Form just fair but can grow wings late when right so keep safe. 12
8 TERMS OF REFERENCE *** Took a drop to Class 4 to win but that effort was strong enough to follow each-way. 6.00
9 HERO I AM ** Ran on OK last and can improve again with blinkers added from gate 1. 12
10 SILKINO *** Progressive type who did it tough enough last start to follow in this Company. 6.00
11 HAPPY SAGA * Will enjoy getting back on the Poly but should need longer and perhaps easier. 20
12 ELITE WARRIOR ** Excuses last start and maiden win was this trip an track but may need easier Company to win again. 12
Race 7
With so many horses bearing the Lim's moniker, it's easy to get confused. There are two in this race with winning hopes but while LIM'S KNIGHT will give a very good account of himself in a race that suits. LIM'S MAGIC could be a horse to follow right through the grades. The 4YO has had wide gates to contend with at three career starts and bar his race debut when placing, he has made light work of his next two, winning with relative ease. He is drawn out again but should get back and have plenty in hand when things get serious. Of the rest, last start winner QUEEN ROULETTE is worth following while VALBUENA and CLASSIFIED both impressed at their first-up runs and must be respected. Keep BRAHMA CIRCUS safe at value, as his recent form is better than it reads. Betting Strategy - LIM'S MAGIC win.
1 BRAHMA CIRCUS *** Form better than it reads and senior hoop in this Company looks a good move. 12
2 OXBOW SUN ** Looked like he had had enough when checked late last start but can run a cheeky race stepping up to 1400m. 20
3 VALBUENA *** Hasn't won since 2015 but was flying late when resuming and pay to follow. 12
4 CLASSIFIED *** Excuses for not winning (or at least going close) when resuming and hard to beat on the back of that effort. 6.00
5 QUEEN ROULETTE *** This is tougher than last start but that win was good enough to follow with handy 4kg claim. 8.00
6 ARES ** Did it tough last start and happy to think he is up to winning a race like this. Each-way. 12
7 JUSTICE FIRST ** Never in the mix until best work very late last start so worth another look. 20
8 DUKE OF NORMANDY ** Resuming with blinkers and first up run last preparation was OK so keep safe. 12
9 LIM'S KNIGHT *** Ignore last start on the Poly as form prior has him right in this with blinkers off. 8.00
10 LIM'S MAGIC *** Very progressive type who is just winning too well not to think he is up to this Company. 2.50
11 GOL GOAL ** First up run was good but this Company may test. 20
Race 8
If you were on MOKASTAR last start you would have been counting your money at numerous stages in the home straight. And in case you missed the finish, as you were most likely in the tote queue, MOKASTAR was in front everywhere bar the last stride and looked a good thing beaten. His work early from the wide gate on that occasion may have told, so from gate 1 today he can make quick amends but will be extremely short in the betting. The biggest danger is AUTUMN RUSH resuming. The 5YO backed up his maiden win with a good Class 4 win at his last campaign and while his recent trial was quiet (at best) his previous effort was good and he must be respected with one eye on the market. AUSPICIOUS ACE and perhaps THUNDER CAT at odds could be both running on late. Betting strategy - MOKASTAR/AUTUMN RUSH swinger.
1 AUTUMN RUSH *** Resuming after two good Poly wins. Recent trial very quiet but previous efforts very good. Can win. 3.60
2 MOKASTAR *** Just missed when leading throughout in similar affair last start and can make amends with gate 1 a factor. 2.20
3 SHAQRAA ** Mixing his form and drawn wide but goes good enough on his day to keep safe. 12
4 LUCKY SIX ** Runs on when in the mood and often value in this Company. 12
5 SECRET SQUIRREL ** Not quite doing the business but appreciates being back on the Poly and can improve. 20
6 TOU SHOU BRIGHT * Struggling and needs much easier. 100
7 AUSPICIOUS ACE *** Wide gate not an issue as will get back and be running on strongly at the business end. Value. 8.00
8 PHIDIAS * Will appreciate the Poly but like to see in easier Company. 33
9 SOUTHERN CHIEF ** Won in Class 5 last start but competitive on his day. 12
10 BELIEVE IT OR NOT * Cheeky run expected but might find it tough late. 20
11 THUNDER CAT ** Like to see in Class 5 but has been running home OK of late and could add some spice to skinny end of exotics. 33
12 DOUBLE CASH * Needs Class 5 and 1000m. 50
