Punters torn between Cue Card and Bristol De Mai for Betfair Chase
Oddschecker users appear at odds as they struggle to split Betfair Chase contenders Cue Card and Bristol De Mai ay Haydock on Saturday. Although bookmakers have Nigel Twiston-Davies’ six-year-old as the 13/8 favourite, bettors have not abandoned the Grade 1 legend Cue Card as the 11-year-old bids to make it four wins in the race.
Over the last seven days there is just 0.1% between the pair in terms of bets placed in the ante-post market, with Cue Card leading the way with 32.08% of bets. The strong market support has seen bookmakers cut his odds from as big as 5/1 at the start of last week into as short as 11/4 with some firms (best price 10/3).
Meanwhile current Gold Cup king Sizing John has continued to drift in the market, his price lengthening to as big as 3/1 having been 6/4 favourite just 24 hours earlier. His trainer Jessica Harrington has moved to ease those fears and said on Monday: "My only worry is that the three hard races he had last season might have left a mark on him. But he had hard races the season before and he came out of those well, so he should be fine.”
Outside of the top three in the market Outlander is the most popular with punters for the all-conquering Gordon Elliott stable. Still 10/1 with a handful of bookmakers, others have cut the nine-year-old into just 8/1.
