Friday meeting preview
Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.
An interesting eight-race card from Singapore on Friday with some very progressive types worth following on both the turf and Polytrack.
BLACK SWAN will get punters excited early as he tries to back up his record breaking win over 1800m on the Polytrack in October.
The 5YO took an age to even break his maiden status – some 24 starts – but to his credit backed up that Class 5 win with some solid runs and another win over 1800 on the turf three starts later.
But not even connections would have envisaged the dominance of his last start Class 4 win where be blitzed his rivals by some six lengths in what was a track record.
Yes, the Poly was running rather hot on that particular day, but the son of Sebring is obviously in fine fettle and he should be hard to beat.
Later in the card, LIM’S RIPPLE looks hard to beat stepping up to what should be a very suitable 1800m (race 7) while DEIMOS, who did it tough when winning first-up after a solid Guineas campaign, can win again in the lucky last.
Best Bets: (LIM’S RIPPLE race 7, win), (DEIMOS race 8, win) and (TINGLE MARC race 6, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 5 (1, 2, 4 and 9), race 6 (1, 2, 3, 4 and 6), race 7 (1, 3, 4, 6 and 11), race 8 (1, 5, 7 and 11).

Selections; 2 FRAGRANCE EMPIRE - 8 GREAT SEVEN - 4 OCEAN MASTER - 5 SWEET BUDDY
Hopefully FRAGRANCE EMPIRE can get punters off to a flyer in opener as the 7YO looks extremely well-placed back in Class 5 off the back of a nice trial. True, he hasn't won for over 12 months, but the drop to this Company is the key to his chances and Mark Ewe was on the last time he won. GREAT SEVEN could be his biggest danger. The maiden showed pace when blinkers went on at his first start in Class 5 last time out and from gate 4, you would expect him to be prominent throughout. Of the rest with winning hopes, OCEAN MASTER had traffic issues last start when placing and he goes close with more luck in running while both SWEET BUDDY (roarer) and BEST JADE (jockey reported not striding) had excuses last start and must be considered. Betting Strategy - FRAGRANCE EMPIRE win.
1 ASTROCANDY * Continues to disappoint but gets winkers and may appreciate Class 5. 33
2 FRAGRANCE EMPIRE *** Drops to right Company and this race very suitable to win from gate 1 on the back of a good trial. 3.50
3 MAKE U FAMOUS ** Hard to have on form but gets senior hoop in Class 5 and showed enough three starts back to keep safe. 12
4 OCEAN MASTER *** Excuses not to finish closer to the winner in similar affair last start and gets his chance. 4.00
5 SWEET BUDDY *** Late Leadership. Returned a roarer when dropping to Class 5 last start so worth another look with senior hoop from gate 2. 8.00
6 TOP BANANA * Maiden who struggles. 200
7 GOLDEN SPARK ** Showed enough last start to consider with blinkers downgraded to visor over only winning trip. 12
8 GREAT SEVEN *** Improved lengths and almost pinched one with last start and in this a long way from gate 4. 5.00
9 BEST JADE *** Jockey reported issues last start so pay to forget and take on form prior. 6.00
10 THOTH WARRIOR * Gets blinkers back and the odd trial good but hard to have on race form. 20
11 FLYING MISSION * No. 100
Selections; 10 ZULU WARRIOR - 9 SUPER POWER - 11 VENUS DE MILO - 5 CROWN GIFT
Nothing jumps off the page in this Restricted Maiden so a couple of horses that should improve on solid debuts in ZULU WARRIOR and CROWN GIFT appeal. In particular ZULU WARRIOR should appreciate the eye-catching late effort over this trip on debut and more importantly, gets the favours for Vlad Duric from gate 1. CROWN GIFT placed on debut and while never looking a winning threat over 1100m on the Poly, he has trialled well since suggesting he improves for the run and the extra trip won't hurt. VENUS DE MILO has more race experience than the others with winning hopes and while he has only placed once from six starts, he is honest and should figure in the mix. The interesting runner is SUPER POWER who had a crack at the Juvenile Championship at his second start and he could win first up since that effort. Betting Strategy - ZULU WARRIOR win, saver on SUPER POWER.
1 BEBOP ** Continues to show enough late to keep safe in what should be a suitable race. 12
2 AVENGERS HERO * Had plenty of trials but pushed along in most. Market best guide. 33
3 BALL AND CHAIN ** Race form hopeless but has had to deal with bad gates at two starts so should improve from gate 3. 20
4 BURGUNDY PRINCE * Will improve with racing but like to see more before considering. 20
5 CROWN GIFT *** Made a solid debut and has trialled well since. Can win. 3.00
6 ELITE ROCKET * Blinkers back off and easier to ignore. 50
7 GINGERMAN * Needs to lift on efforts to date. 50
8 MY MONEY * Debut was OK and recent trial solid but hard to have on what he showed last start. 33
9 SUPER POWER *** Resuming after having a free throw at the stumps in the Juvenile Championship and this field weak enough to win. 6.00
10 ZULU WARRIOR *** Never involved on debut before eye-catching work late has him the one to beat from gate 1. 3.00
11 VENUS DE MILO *** Honest and looks well placed in this field over 1400m to knock in a well deserved win with best work expected late. 6.00
12 ULTIMATE KILLER * Impossible on race form but gets headgear added and recent trial suggests he may improve at very long odds. 100
Selections; 5 BLACK SWAN - 6 GOLD FAITH - 3 LUCKY JUSTICE - 8 SHOQEET
Nothing in racing is black and white. Certainly not horse form but it's hard to go pass BLACK SWAN in this race after a record-breaking performance over the same trip at his last start. True, the Poly track was running particularly hot that night but he did win by some six lengths in Class 4 Company and if he brings that form to this field, he wins again. He will have to be on his toes though with plenty of smart types suited this track and trip including GOLD FAITH who was in cracking form before having excuses in the El Dorado and LUCKY JUSTICE who should get the favours from gate 1 with a handy 2kg claim. SHOQEET also comes under consideration with just 50.5kg. Betting Strategy - GOLD FAITH each-way.
1 MR SCORSESE ** Never involved last start but step up in trip and switch to Poly could see a result. 8.00
2 TURQUOISE KING ** Battled away to the wire last start to be in the place mix and expect much the same. 10
3 LUCKY JUSTICE *** Will appreciate the Company, claim, Poly and gate 1 and has to be respected. 8.00
4 ONE RAR * Yet to fire since changing stables and easier to ignore. 33
5 BLACK SWAN *** Broke track record this trip last start carrying same weight in Class 4 and extremely hard to beat on that effort. 2.00
6 GOLD FAITH *** Excuses last start in the El Dorado and a big show on form prior. 4.00
7 O'REILLY'S DANCER * Appreciates extra trip but like to see something before considering. 33
8 SHOQEET *** Showed more than enough last start over 1700m to think the trip no problem and a big show with no weight. 8.00
Selections; 9 WAITAHANUI - 6 AROUND THE WORLD - 3 SABIK - 11 D'GREAT STAR
A very interesting maiden given there is a smart newcomer that can win on debut and three of the main hopes with race experience under their belt have changes to their gear. The newcomer in question is WAITAHANUI who has impressed at the trials and could be hard to beat with any sort of luck from the wide gate. Of the raced brigade, AROUND THE WORLD had excuses last start not to finish closer after a good debut. He gets blinkers added to his gear and gets gate 1 so looks the benchmark. SABIK also gets blinkers after respiratory excuses last start and he did look due prior to that poor run. D'GREAT STAR looks the other obvious pick with blinkers off for this. Betting Strategy - expect support and WAITAHANUI win.
1 AMIABILITY * Showed speed last start when blinkers went on so drop back to 1200m a good move but Poly form a concern. 9.00
2 GRAND CANYON ** Race form hopeless but having first start on the Poly and trial form suggests he may improve. 20
3 SABIK *** Respiratory excuses last start but a big show on form prior with blinkers added from gate 1. 8.00
4 DONTLOOKDOWNONME * Has struggled since placing three starts back and wide gate doesn't help. 12
5 NATURAL WATER * No. 200
6 AROUND THE WORLD *** Excuses last start not to finish closer and has trialled well since with blinkers added. Hard to beat. 3.00
7 SPEEDY DEMON * Resuming after being eased out of race on debut. Prefer others. 50
8 SWIFT EMBRACE ** Never involved from wide gate on debut and improvement expected. 20
9 WAITAHANUI *** Drawn wide for debut but trials like he know a lot about the racing caper and can win. 4.00
10 YUROSHO * Resuming with blinkers and tongue-tie after poor debut. Not for me. 50
11 D'GREAT STAR *** Blinkers off to turn some very solid form into a win. Goes close. 6.00
12 NOVA STORM ** Was running on well enough last start to think he is in the mix stepping up to 1200m. 12
Selections; 9 PETITE VICTOIRE - 2 INVINCIBLE MAN - 4 SILVER POWER - 1 D'DON
Plenty of question marks over the top chances in what is a very weak field and the market will be a very good guide. As it stands, both PETITE VICTOIRE and INVINCIBLE MAN both have good recent trials under their belts and both can win. PETITE VICTOIRE hasn't won since May 2016 but is in solid form and looked well held at his trial and gets his chance. INVINCIBLE MAN hasn't won for near on three years and bled last start but his trial was also good and gate 1 helps here. SILVER POWER also resumes after two poor runs but his form prior was good and he could show up in what is a suitable race. The obvious pick may be D'DON who has won five times at the trip and track although he does have respiratory issues. Betting Strategy - play with care, PETITE VICTOIRE each-way.
1 D'DON *** Returned a roarer (again) last start but always a winning show over this trip. 3.00
2 INVINCIBLE MAN *** Resuming after bleeding attack. Nearing three years since last win but recent trial was good and can win with blinkers off from gate 1. 4.00
3 OBSTACLES FREE ** Will enjoy being back on the Poly and cheeky run expected from gate 2. 12
4 SILVER POWER *** Resuming after two poor runs but wins on form prior with blinkers back on and 4kg claim. 5.00
5 HEPHAESTUS * Needs to find a few lengths before considering. 20
6 TOP NOTE ** Ran on OK last start and has trialled solidly with blinkers removed since. Keep safe. 12
7 GIN GO GIN * No. 200
8 KAISER BRIGHT ** Appreciates a better gate and can improve on recent efforts. 20
9 PETITE VICTOIRE *** Looked well held at recent trial and looks ready to turn some solid form into a win. 7.00
10 BASTION * Long term maiden who runs the odd good race but skinny end of exotics best. 20
11 CAPTAIN CLASSIQUE ** Some solid OK runs in Class 5 and can include in exotics. 20
Selections; 3 TINGLE MARC - 2 PAPARAZZI - 6 SOUTHERN SPUR - 1 GOLDEN KINGDOM
With the likely favourite in PAPARAZZI coming off a shocker and some others finding it tough to win, it may pay to throw caution to the wind and jump on TINGLE MARC at value in this Class 4 turf sprint. The former Australian has had two sighters from wide gates since arriving and has shown enough to think he can improve dropping to Class 4 with gate 1 a factor. If you can forgive PAPARAZZI's second up poor effort, he is a big show on what he showed when winning at his Singapore debut while the market will be a good guide on a newcomer from Australia in NORTHERN PRINCE. GOLDEN KINGDOM, WIJAYA, SOUTHERN SPUR and MIKCAIPHO four more that can figure in the finish. Betting Strategy - TINGLE MARC each-way.
1 GOLDEN KINGDOM *** Looked to have every chance last start in similar affair but showed enough to think he wins one soon. 6.00
2 PAPARAZZI *** Very disappointing last start with heavy support but could be 'second run syndrome' so worth another look. 3.00
3 TINGLE MARC *** Form better than it reads and shown enough to think he is ready to show his best with gate 1 a factor. 20
4 WIJAYA *** A long way off the winner but ran on well enough to place last start at odds and expect much the same. 7.00
5 NORTHERN PRINCE ** Former Australian with one under his belt and has trialled well enough locally to consider. 6.00
6 SOUTHERN SPUR *** Saddle has slipped at his last two starts and shown enough to think he can win one when he gets things right. 8.00
7 MIKCAIPHO ** Solid effort after being collared quickly in straight last start and pay to keep safe. 12
8 RED CLAW * Needs to lift on recent efforts. 33
9 LUCKY GIANT * Never a threat last start but battled away manfully and could sneak place at value. 20
10 POWER LIN ** Mixing his form but drop back to 1200m a good move so keep safe in exotics. 20
11 HOLY GRAIL * Resuming and recent trial OK but may need easier. 20
12 ELISE * Excuses last start but needs to show more before considering. 20
Selections; 4 LIM'S RIPPLE - 3 EL DON - 1 KINGS RYKER - 6 CAI POH WANG
A very progressive stayer in LIM'S RIPPLE looks one of the better bets on the card and the promising 4YO could be hard to hold out in KSD Company. Yes, he has only won once from eight career starts but his work late behind some handy types in Show Far Show Good and Murrayfield at his last two starts over the mile suggests the 1800m is ideal and will be a horse to follow through the grades. His biggest danger should be EL DON who actually might find the 1800m too short. The Don Eduardo 5YO is a dyed-in-the-wool stayer and while breaking his maiden over the mile, he normally doesn't get wound up until very late although he has blinkers added for this and Duric may try to take advantage of the good gate. KIRKS RYKER, CAI POH WANG and FIGHTING WARRIOR three others that can figure heavily in the finish. Betting Strategy - LIM'S RIPPLE win.
1 KINGS RYKER *** Best form in Singapore is on the Poly but handles the turf, trip suits and recent trial with blinkers added solid. Keep safe. 12
2 PRIME TURF * Yet to show up in Singapore but gets blinkers and could improve stepping up to 1800m. 33
3 EL DON *** Promising stayer who very much appreciates this Company and hard to hold out late with blinkers added. 4.00
4 LIM'S RIPPLE *** Foot on the till and wins this without surprising. 3.00
5 PEGASUS JUNIOR * Impossible on exposed form but will improve as he gets up in trip. 200
6 CAI POH WANG *** Broke maiden status last start over the mile and that effort good enough to follow in this Company. 6.00
7 LETITGO * Excuses last start and trialling well but race form ordinary. 33
8 DISCRETELY RED ** Fought back to win maiden on the Poly and this look tougher. 12
9 SUN SCRAPER ** Just missed in Class 4 last start over the mile on the Poly at long odds. Keep safe from gate 1. 12
10 ANGHIARI * Maiden who gets Nunes with blinkers off but hard to have on race form. 50
11 FIGHTING WARRIOR *** Query at the trip but ran on well in good Company over 1200m last start and another to keep safe. 20
12 MATSURIBAYASHI ** Will find this easier than last start and can consider at value. 20
13 CHEETAH KING ** Usually needs Class 5 to win but likes the turf and winning form is good form. 12
14 PEREGRINE FALCON * Needs much easier. 50
Selections; 1 DEIMOS - 7 EN CIVIL - 5 BANDIDO - 11 HIMALAYA DRAGON
A race with little depth and DEIMOS picks himself at the top of the weights. The now 4YO resumed after a solid but unsuccessful Guineas campaign with a tough first-up win and while drawn wide again, he might be better than most of these and hard to beat. There doesn't look many that will trouble DEIMOS although BANDIDO, who has also drawn wide, looks suited back in trip and can figure while EN CIVIL is in honest form and he should get the favours from gate 3 with Azhar on-board. HIMALAYA DRAGON may have forgotten how to win but gets his chance in this field and nothing else really appeals. Betting Strategy - DEIMOS win.
1 DEIMOS *** Promising type who resumed with good win after tough run in transit and has trialled well since. Drawn wide again but more than up to this. 2.00
2 B'NEVAGIVUP ** Resuming and has first-up form but having first start on the Poly and may need longer so take on trust. 50
3 KOLOMBIA ** Last start better than the result at long odds and has trialled well since. Worth thought with blinkers added from gate 1. 20
4 LUCKY STRIDE ** Showed last start he has something to offer on the Poly but all three wins on turf over 1400m. 7.00
5 BANDIDO *** Drops back from the mile but this trip and track is his caper and can win. 6.00
6 CAMBRIDGE * Resuming and may need longer to show his best. 50
7 EN CIVIL *** In form and should figure heavily in this finish with favours expected from gate 4. 5.00
8 IVANHOE * Disappointed since winning three starts back and query this surface. 50
9 AHMAR * Excuses last start but prefer on the turf. 50
10 SECRET MISSION * Form hopeless and drawn wide but gets blinkers and could improve on the back of a good trial. 50
11 HIMALAYA DRAGON *** Lack of recent winning form a big concern but usually thereabouts and race suits. 10
12 COUNTRY QUACK * Nothing last start and may be looking or something easier. 33
13 LIM'S KNIGHT * Drawn wide and a better option on the turf. 33
14 JULIUS CAESAR ** Disappointing last start but gets blinkers and worth thought on best form. 12
