Sunday meeting preview

Sunday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

There is a school of thought in racing that ‘weight can stop a train’.

And that school has rarely been wrong when it comes to the biggest races on the Singapore domestic calendar - the Dester Singapore Gold Cup.

Why? Because it’s a handicap and the best horses are asked to carry weights that make winning over 2200m very, very tough.

So much so that the last top-weight to win the time-honoured feature was SMART BET with an incredulous 59kg way back in 2002 and since then the average winning weight has been a shade over 51.5kg.

The El Dorado Classic form coupled with lightweight in the Cup has been the only form line for the last four years, including BAHANA who won both last year.

And while BAHANA needs to lift on his recent form to have any chance of back-to-back Gold Cups, the 2017 El Dorado winner, SECRET WIN, looks extremely well placed on the minimum on Sunday.

From the same race, SONG TO THE MOON also looks to have some hope at odds with just 50kg while PERFECT P and BLUE SWEDE should make their presence felt at the bunnies end.

The last horse to win the Raffles/Gold Cup double was Zirna back in 2003 so GILT COMPLEX with 56.5kg has his work cutout but is not without a chance as is ELITE EXCALIBUR who carries 55.5kg after finishing second in the same race.

NEWLANDS also ran in the Raffles and could be the big improver with Karis Teetan onboard and no weight.

Best Bets: (LIM’S ROYAL race 11, win), (I’VE GOT A FEELING race 5, value) and (FEROCIOUS race 7, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 8 (1, 2, 3, 7, 9 and 11), race 9 (2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 14 and 16), race 10 (2, 3, 4, 6, 11, 12 and 15) and race 11 (1).

Race 1
Everyone wants to win a race on Cup Day and competitive fields are the order of the day. NORTHERN SUN is an improving type who led throughout to win a Maiden convincingly last start; he steps up in trip but should be hard to run down again. This class and distance suit ROAN RANGER, he was caught wide last start and from the better gate should be prominent throughout. Some value may be found with O'REILLY BAY dropped back in trip last start, led and wasn't far away at the end, he won his Initiation over this trip and with senior rider John Powell up can improve on recent efforts. REFRESH won well at debut but found Novice company too tough last start, he is better suited here, trialled was soundly and should be prominent. In an open race other chances include ZAC ACE, THE WIND and GOLD REWARD. Betting strategy - NORTHERN SUN each-way.
1 NORTHERN SUN *** Led throughout to win Maiden convincingly last start. Improving type who steps up in trip but should be hard to run down again. 5.00
2 GOLD REWARD * Has struggled since Maiden win on poly but has placed all three outings this trip and could improve. 14
3 ZAC ACE *** Resuming after bleeding attack. Trial was solid and won Maiden over this trip. Should be prominent from the good gate. Watch market. 10
4 EL CAMINO * Has won this class and distance but recent efforts poor and not helped by wide gate. 16
5 REFRESH *** Won well at debut but found Novice too tough last start. Better suited here with senior hoop and trial was sound. 6.00
6 THE GOLDEN GOAT ** Only win was on poly but battled on solidly over 1200m in this grade last start. Gets a 3kg claim but gate no help. 20
7 THE WIND ** Blinkers back on after disappointing when supported over this trip last start. Last win was a year ago but has won this class and distance. 16
8 O'REILLY BAY *** Dropped back in trip, led and wasn't far away last start. Senior rider will help and should be prominent. 6.00
9 SMART MASTER * Poly form is sound but turf efforts moderate. Gate tests. 33
10 TEMBUSU ESTRELA ** Did nothing last start in Class 4 but both career wins have been at this trip in Class 5. Gets William Pike and could show up in this slightly weaker grade. 25
11 LIM'S BULLET * Blinkers off after battling over a mile last start. Last win was two years ago but could run on late. 25
12 RIVER GOLDEN * Has struggled since Maiden win and best form has been on poly. Having first try at 1400m. 33
13 ROAN RANGER *** Suited this class and distance. Caught wide last start and much better suited here. Should be prominent throughout. 4.00
14 SHE'S THE ONE * Ran on well to win Class 5 on poly last start but this is harder. 33
15 IN BOCCA AL LUPO ** Ran on from a long way back over 1200m in this company last start. May be better in Class 5 but could be closing late. 20
16 GREATBALLS OF FIRE ** Would love to see in Class 5 but suited the trip and can include somewhere. 33
Race 2
A strong Class 4 with one interesting newcomer engaged against some solid performers. LIM'S REGARD returned with debris in the trachea last start following two narrow but good wins; he gets blinkers and with William Pike up should be prominent throughout. DREAMWEAVER's last win was this class and distance and his recent poly effort was solid, he should be on the speed throughout from the good gate. The recent arrival KINGSMAN has only won one race but placed in a Group 3 at Ellerslie two starts back and in the Karaka Millions as a 2YO; his recent trial was strong and with Vlad Duric to ride he should be up to this class. These look the top three but MONTAIGNE will be improved by his recent outing and is consistent at this level; SKY ROCKET showed promise winning at debut but needs to overcome the gate. Betting strategy - watch for KINGSMAN support and couple with LIM'S REGARD.
1 DREAMWEAVER *** Last win was this class and distance and recent poly effort was solid. Should be prominent throughout from the good gate. 4.00
2 KINGSMAN *** Has only won one race but placed in Karaka Millions as a 2YO. Placed in a Group 3 at Ellerslie two starts back and recent trial was strong. Should be up to this class. Watch market. 4.50
3 LIM'S REGARD *** Returned with debris in trachea last start following two narrow but good wins. Gets blinkers and with William Pike up should be prominent throughout. 4.00
4 MONTAIGNE ** Faded when resuming but should be improved and previous form in similar company was consistent. 7.00
5 TALES OF SUMMER ** Finally broke through in Singapore last start. Will find this harder but gets a claim and can be prominent from the good gate. 25
6 DOUBLE RAINBOW * Did nothing at first start when resuming from lengthy spell for new trainer. Later. 50
7 SKY ROCKET ** Had support and led throughout at debut. This is harder and needs to overcome the gate. 7.00
8 METALLOCENE ** Well beaten but battled on this class and distance last start. Should be prominent again. 12
9 STAR STRIKE ** Gets blinkers after being checked last start. Having 3rd start since changing stables and last win was over this distance in KSD. Could improve. 20
10 PHIDIAS * Caught wide and dropped out last start after Class 5 poly win. Needs easier. 33
11 PRATT STREET ** Racing soundly. More comfortable in Class 5 on poly but trial was sound and could show up with Nunes to ride. 25
12 OLIVER * Has been disappointing at recent outings. Improvement needed. 33
Race 3
Most of these have had little or no racing so the market will be an excellent guide. EASTIGER is one that is improving with racing and was run down late last start; with Michael Rodd to ride he gets a chance to break through. GLAMOROUS tracked the winner throughout last start; he is improving and should be prominent from the good gate. Of the first starters both LIM'S SENSATION and MAGIC WAND are bred to sprint and have trialled well, watch for support. The others have shown little though there may be improvement in MOLINEUX, LONHRO GOLD and HENG KINGDOM. Betting strategy - EASTIGER to have his day.
1 EASTIGER *** Improving with racing and was run down late last start. With Michael Rodd to ride gets a chance to break through. 2.50
2 GLAMOROUS *** Tracked the winner throughout last start. Improving and should be prominent from the good gate. 3.00
3 MIRACLE KID ** Has been battling away. Improving with experience and should be running on. 16
4 MIGHTY PHOENIX * Tested. 33
5 HENG KINGDOM * Well back at debut but could improve for Pike. 20
6 LIM'S SENSATION *** By Snippetson. Dam won over 1000m.Trialled nicely and may have speed. Watch for support. 8.00
7 LONHRO GOLD ** Showed pace but faded at debut. Gets Jeff Lloyd and could improve on good trial form. 20
8 MAGIC WAND *** By Star Witness. Trialled nicely. Can be prominent for Manoel Nunes. Watch market. 8.00
9 MASTER MINER ** Green and returned not striding out freely yet ran 4th at poly debut. Could show up from inside gate. 16
10 MOLINEUX ** Bred for longer but should be improved by solid debut. Could be running on. 16
Race 4
A moderate and less than consistent group do battle over 1400m. HERACLES has struck form following up his Class 5 win with a Class 4 success, he rises significantly in weight but the distance suits and he can't be ignored in an ordinary field. The value may lie with SILENT ARROW who fought hard in this company last start over 1200m; he is better suited by this distance and with Vlad Duric to ride should be handy throughout. LIM'S PERSHING broke through by dead heating in Maiden company last start, this is harder but blinkers replace winkers and with the 2Kg claim for Noh Senari he can be prominent. Of the many other chances, PERFECT COMMANDO led and just missed in this company when wearing blinkers for first time last start, MR MOSA is suited this class and with blinkers on could improve while GALILEO'S APPROACH likes to lead and could show up if he can overcome the gate. Betting strategy - HERACLES win, saver on SILENT ARROW.
1 GALILEO'S APPROACH *** Led but weakened badly in Class 4 last start. Previous form in this company strong and only win was at this trip. Gate tests but should be prominent. 6.00
2 LIM'S PERSHING *** Winkers to blinkers after Maiden win last start. This is harder but claim helps and should be prominent throughout. 6.00
3 SUN LION * Blinkers off after showing nothing at two Singapore starts. Only win was at 1300m at Geelong and needs to improve. 33
4 HERACLES *** Followed up Class 5 win with success in Class 4 over this trip last start. Rises 5.5kg but in form and should be running on. 6.00
5 MR MOSA *** Has struggled in Class 4 since KSD win over 1200m four starts back and blinkers go back on. Watch for improvement. 10
6 PEGASUS JUNIOR * Gets a tongue-tie but has shown nothing two Singapore starts. Needs longer. 33
7 NINETYSEVENEMPEROR * Struggled last start after placing in Class 4 at previous outing. Take on trust with 4kg claimer to ride. 20
8 KNIGHT CHEN BAY ** Gets back to a more suitable distance and will appreciate drop in grade. Likes to go forward and not helped by the gate. 20
9 HAPPY BABY * Has battled at recent starts but might find this easier and only win was at 1400. Could be running on. 20
10 PRINCE DARCI * Drops back in trip after Class 5 win last start. Will run on but might find these too sharp. 33
11 TAUBOSS * Formed Malaysian well beaten at recent outings in Class 4. Gets blinkers and could show up in this weaker company. 14
12 PERFECT COMMANDO ** Led and just missed in this company when wearing blinkers for first time last start. Worth following. 8.00
13 SILENT ARROW *** Fought hard in this company last start over 1200m. Better suited this distance and with Duric to ride should be handy throughout. 5.00
14 DARCI'S BOY * Battled over this trip in Class 5 last start. Gets William Pike and a good gate but will find this harder. 16
15 PEACH BOWL * Battling since resuming and not helped by the gate. Might need easier. 25
16 FIGHTING WARRIOR ** Ran on in much stronger class last start and has won three times at this trip. Could be closing late. 16
Race 5
A solid if unspectacular Class 4 field will head to the 1200m start and with nothing jumping off the page to win, a Class dropper in I’VE GOT A FEELING could be a nice each-way option for punters. The 4YO has had an interesting career thus far with some good early wins giving connections the confidence to have a crack at Group level both as a two and three-year-old. And while he didn’t live up to those expectations, his Guineas run was solid and he showed enough last start to follow in this Company. The race should be honestly run with WONDERFUL KNIGHT likely to give a sight from the wide gate and his effort last start to have everything well and truly covered bar the nice winner is more than up to this. Of the others with winning hopes, LIM’S BLAST backed up his maiden win with an eye-catching late run in similar company last time out and he will be motoring late with Glen Boss on-board, while a couple of last start winners in FIRST LIGHT and to a lesser extent, FLASH ONE, have to be respected. A newcomer from Australia in BAFFERT is the wildcard and while only winning once from some eight-career starts ‘Down Under’, he looks honest, has trialled well locally and gets the services of Karis Teetan. Betting Strategy - I'VE GOT A FEELING
1 I'VE GOT A FEELING *** Returned to some form last start, drop in grade and big run expected. 5.00
2 WONDERFUL KNIGHT *** Will lead from the wide gate and showed last start he is ready to win again soon. 5.00
3 SIGLAP BIRD * Former Japanese who faded after on pace run at Singapore debut. Gets a tongue-tie and should improve. 33
4 CHASE * Returned not striding when disappointing with support last start and drops back in trip. Take on trust. 12
5 BAFFERT *** Brings honest form from Australia and has trialled well locally. Forward showing expected. 7.00
6 BAYU ** Resuming after poor run but form prior including good maiden win suggests he has something to offer. 12
7 LIM'S BLAST *** Backed up maiden win with eye-catching placing when running on in this Class last start. Big show. 4.00
8 RED SYMPHONY * Blinkers off after solid debut and should improve although may need easier than this. 20
9 FIRST LIGHT ** Freshened after breaking maiden status over 1400m but looks handy enough to follow. 12
10 FLASH ONE ** Surprised a few by winning in KSD Company last start but this is tougher. 20
11 ELITE WARRIOR ** Solid enough type who will be running on but exotics look best. 12
12 SUPER BALL * Struggling. 200
13 MASURAO * Competitive on his day and gate helps but like to see in Class 5. 33
Race 6
Trainer HW ‘Alwin’ Tan looks to have a more than handy type in SUPER FORTUNE on his hands and the Australian-bred 4YO looks extremely well-placed to continue on his winning ways. The Mossman gelding did look to pick up a couple of soft wins at his first two starts in Singapore before finding a couple of horses better when being sent out as favourite at start three. But he bounced straight back into the winners circle at start four and that win was impressive enough to think he is more than up to this Company on 50.5kg with a nice recent trial a pointer to his chances. Also in his favour is the fact that his main dangers - FAALTLESS and WIMBLEDON - both carry 58kg at the race conditions and while the pair look in good enough form and have the runs on the board at this level, the weight difference should be telling. And given the likes of DISTINTIVE DARCI and SPEEDY DRAGON both look better prospects on the Polytrack, ELUSIVE EMPEROR might also be worth thought in exotics with just 49.5kg to carry. Betting strategy - SUPER FORTUNE to win.
1 FAALTLESS *** In top form and dominant in similar company last start. Rises 1.5 kg but should be prominent. 3.00
2 WIMBLEDON *** Resuming after failing in Korea Sprint at Seoul. Quality sprinter who could show up fresh. Watch for support. 5.00
3 SPANISH BAY *** Placed at first poly outing last start and should be improved. Has had plenty of issues but smart when right and suited this trip. Should get a good run throughout and be hard to hold off. 5.00
4 DISTINCTIVE DARCI * Best form is on poly but has placed at 2 of 5 turf outings and could be running on. 14
5 RAISE NO DOUBT * Has only battled at recent outings and hasn't won for a long time. Might need easier. 33
6 SPEEDY DRAGON * Resumed soundly and should be improved. Gets Manoel Nunes but best form is on poly. 20
7 LASER STORM * Just missed in BM89 last start. Best form is on poly but could be closing late. 20
8 FLAK JACKET * Has rediscovered some form after a long run of outs. Up in class but well drawn and with no weight could be hard to run down. 16
9 SUPER FORTUNE *** Improving sprinter. Up in class but well drawn and with minimum weight should be prominent throughout. 4.00
10 ELUSIVE EMPEROR * Showed speed before being run down in Class 3 last start when resuming. Has trialled well since and whilst this is harder should be hard to run down. 20
Race 7
At the Novice race conditions, it always pays to have a look for any promising youngsters who get an excellent pull in the weights. As such, the 3YO’s appeal including FEROCIOUS who resumes after placing in the Juvenile Championship over 1400m back in July. The son of Sebring was also well supported in the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe after his impressive debut win but he was unplaced in the 2YO Group 3 sprint when he returned a roarer. A quiet trial suggests he has returned in good order and he should be hard to hold out with best work expected late. The now 3YO filly, BRINGER OF WAR, also came through the Golden Horseshoe where she placed behind Bee Bee and that form will more than hold up in Novice Company. She also gets the services of the in-form Karis Teetan and she will have admirers on the back of a solid first up run with just 51.5kg to carry in this. As a 4YO with one win to his name, GOLD CITY has to carry 56.5kg but his debut effort when going away in solid Maiden Company was impressive and he will keep the youngsters very honest late. Two debutantes in KING LOUIS (who previously raced in Australia) and DRAGONITE have both impressed at the trials and must be respected while EASY DOES IT and EBRAZ are also in the winning mix. Betting Strategy - FEROCIOUS each-way.
1 LIM'S STARDOM * Better effort last start but not in well at the race conditions. 50
2 OPTIMUM STAR * Needs Poly and easier. 50
3 MILITARY MIGHT * Back in trip after good run last start but not in well at the weights here. 50
4 GOLD CITY *** Impressed when winning well on debut and that form should hold up here. 4.00
5 BOY WONDER ** Resuming after very good first campaign and recent trial good enough to give this a shake. 12
6 BLACK QUAIL ** Tried hard and didn't miss by much last start and will work into this late. 12
7 DRAGONITE *** Trials like he knows a bit about the racing caper and big run expected on debut. 12
8 ROMAN WELLS * Irish-bred 3YO who would need stable support on what we have seen at the trials. 33
9 EASY DOES IT *** Drawn awkwardly but won on debut on the back of a smart trial and worth following. 6.00
10 EBRAZ *** Never in the hunt until late last start but worth another look on all-the-way debut win. 12
11 FEROCIOUS *** Resuming after good run when placing in the Juvenile Championship and pay to keep very safe. 8.00
12 KING LOUIS *** Another debutante who is trialling well enough to win on debut. 6.00
13 BRINGER OF WAR *** Promising 3YO filly who appreciates first up run and lightweight. Can win. 6.00
Race 8
The Class 3 sprints normally throw up a competitive affair but the depth of this field is exceptional. In fact you could make a serious winning case for at least eight of the runners so there is sure to be value about if we can find the winner and exotics will also pay well. WEBSTER is one that wins without surprising and we are happy to put a line through his last start failure on the Poly as he has subsequently trialled strongly and is unbeaten at two turf runs. DRACO is another progressive type who put in a very eye-catching run last start and while he has drawn wide again, the experienced Jeff Lloyd will give him every opportunity. ANONYMOUS heads the ratings but a clever 2kg claim has him under notice with 55kg from gate 2 after an eye-catching effort last start, while CHALAZA also had excuses last time out and may even start favourite in this field. Two last start winners in MAGIC CITY resuming and GRAN TORINO are also sure to have admirers and it will pay to go even wider in exotics with the likes of BRAHMA CIRCUS and CLASSIFIED also in the mix. Betting Strategy - WEBSTER win, saver on ANONYMOUS.
1 ANONYMOUS *** Very eye-catching run last start after getting back from the wide alley and hard to hold out here from gate 2. 8.00
2 CHALAZA *** Very progressive 5YO who had excuses not to finish closer last start over 1400m and will figure heavily in this finish. 5.00
3 MAGIC CITY *** Resuming after a terrific run of form and certainly knows where the line is. Respect. 7.00
4 MR CROWE ** Has been disappointing over 1400m but gets blinkers and freshened with solid trial so keep safe. 12
5 BRAHMA CIRCUS ** Form better than it reads and looked to be doing it easy at recent trial. Value. 12
6 OXBOW SUN ** Draw a concern but has pace and will likely go forward so keep safe. 33
7 DRACO *** No luck at the gates again but did super to just miss last start and goes close with easier run in transit. 7.00
8 CLASSIFIED ** Resuming. Very honest type and has first up form so pay to include somewhere. 12
9 WEBSTER *** Coming off a shocker on the Poly but has trialled strongly since and is two-from-two on the turf. Can win. 4.00
10 DAN THE MAN * Yet to fire in Singapore and easier to ignore. 50
11 GRAN TORINO *** Progressive 4YO who looks up to this Company and well worth following. 8.00
12 GOODFELLAS * No. 200
Race 9
An extremely tough Dester Singapore Gold Cup for the pundits with more than half the field coming off poor runs from either the weight-for-age Raffles Cup or the handicapped El Dorado Classic. Obviously some of the well-beaten brigade from the Raffles Cup will get some weight relief at the handicap conditions of the Gold Cup but the likes of last year’s winner, BAHANA and his stablemate NEWLANDS, will have to improve lengths. Conversely, the horses that shone in the Raffles Cup have to carry weights that have stopped some good horses in the past in the Gold Cup, but ELITE EXCALIBUR (55.5kg) looks ready to win and GILT COMPLEX must be respected with just one kilo more. No top-weight has won the Cup since Smart Bet in 2002 and while INFANTRY looks fairly weighted with 57.5kg, the Kranji Mile winner did miss the Raffles Cup through injury and that could be costly stepping up to 2200m. So the El Dorado Classic may again be the best guide with the last four winners of the Group 1 coming through the race aptly named after a three-time winner of the Gold Cup. BAHANA (2016) and QUECHUA (2014) both won the El Dorado while TROPIAS (2013) and COOPTADO (2015) ran in the top four but more importantly, all four horses got into the Cup field with a very light weight. So it would almost be remiss not to have this years El Dorado winner, SECRET WIN, as the on-top selection given he was both superb in coming from last to win the Classic and he carries the minimum in the Gold Cup – that’s two big boxes ticked. From the same race, BLUE SWEDE - who finished third in the Gold Cup last year - showed he knows how to peak at the right time while an out-and-out stayer in SONG TO THE MOON did enough to think he will have something up his sleeve at the business end with just 50kg to carry. PERFECT P also put in a very good effort doing the hard yards on the pace in the El Dorado and given he had to carry top-weight on that occasion, he could look the winner at some stage with 3kg less to carry. Betting Strategy - SONG TO THE MOON value, Box 2, 3, 5, 14 and 16 in a trifecta.
1 INFANTRY ** Has claims to be the best horse in Singapore but missed Raffles Cup run could be telling late with top-weight. 8.00
2 GILT COMPLEX *** Won at odds in the Raffles Cup but obviously in form and gets the favours from gate 2. 5.00
3 ELITE EXCALIBUR *** Yet to win beyond Class 3 Company in Singapore and drawn wide but foot on the till and should figure late. 7.00
4 MAJESTIC MOMENTS ** Has been running on OK of late and not far away in this race last year with same weight. Exotics. 20
5 PERFECT P *** Carried 57.5kg when giving a sight in the El Dorado and will be in the mix again with 3kg less. 12
6 LAUGHING GRAVY * Has a solid record in this type of race but hard to consider on last start effort. 50
7 FOREVER YOUNG ** Query at the trip but will lead and appreciates the handicap conditions. 25
8 BLUE SWEDE *** Wide gate a concern but returned to form in the El Dorado and placed in his race last year so have to respect. 12
9 BAHANA ** Won this race last year and will appreciate being back at handicap conditions but have to take on trust on recent form with blinkers back on. 20
10 EMPEROR'S BANQUET * Has placed in this race previously but hard to have on recent form. 50
11 JUPITER GOLD ** Impossible on recent form but gets blinkers and could be the improver at longs odds. 33
12 ORDER OF THE SUN * Hit the wall in the El Dorado and looks a risk. 50
13 NEWLANDS ** Nothing in the raffles Cup but looks set for this with lightweight and must be respected with winkers added and K Teetan from gate 1. 8.00
14 SONG TO THE MOON *** Out-and-out stayer who had excuses when running on in the El Dorado and could surprise with upgrade to blinkers. 20
15 MIGHTY KENNY ** Last start winner who is tested at this Class and trip but have to respect the stable. 20
16 SECRET WIN *** Booked his ticket into the race with a last-to-first win in the El Dorado and that form holds up with 50kg. 5.00
17 SANDTOP * Yet to show anything in Singapore. 500
18 CHAIRMAN *** Very promising stayer who would go extremely close to winning this on his El Dorado run if he gains a start. 4.00
19 MAGSTOCK *** Another El Dorado runner who would give this a shake if he got a start with blinkers added. 8.00
20 DARSHINI *** Another handy stayer who would have had a say with 50kg. 20
Race 10
An extremely open Class 4 mile and once again you could make a serious winning case for more than half the capacity field including the emergency, MILLENNIUM’S RULE, who looks a solid each-way hope on the back of a good first up run with Karis Teetan to ride. And it’s worth noting the Lonhro gelding is trained by Stephen Gray, who has an outstanding winning strike rate on feature race days and the Kiwi will also saddle OPTIMUS who ran on well against the track bias last start and is right in this with another visiting hoop in Willy Pike to ride. MR EXCHEQUER comes through a Guineas campaign and while unplaced in the Group 1 mile, his previous two wins were at this trip and he looks ready to show his best after two solid runs over 1400m this campaign, including a third to the smart Lim’s Magic. From that same race we have to include HUMDINGER who ran on very well from a long way back to run second, while the likes of MASTER OF MALIBU and SACRED GALAXY also showed enough to consider here. STORM TROOPER is another to keep safe after a huge run with excuses last start and the switch to a top senior jockey in Vlad Duric is a factor. Of the rest, PENTAGON is not the type to win out of turn but does look due with blinkers off and a visor on, while last start maiden winner, THE ODDS, could very well go on with the job. Betting Strategy - MR EXCHEQUER each-way.
1 SACRED GALAXY *** Got too far back before running on OK last start and step up to the mile will suit. 12
2 HUMDINGER *** Ran on very well last start over 1400m from wide gate and expect much the same. 8.00
3 STORM TROOPER *** Another that put in eye-catching run late last start but gets senior hoop and can figure. 20
4 MR EXCHEQUER *** In the mix with Humdinger over 1400m last start and get this chance over the mile. 6.00
5 WONDERFUL ERA ** In solid form and look dot have some in hand last start and switch to turf could see a result. 12
6 PENTAGON *** Won't win out of turn but very much appreciates first up run and goes close with blinkers to visor. 8.00
7 HIGHER SOUL * Disappointing at two runs since winning over 1400m and easier to ignore. 50
8 MASTER OF MALIBU ** Battled away after racing handy over 1400m last start and can figure in the mix with luck from wide gate. 12
9 LIM'S ARCHER ** Returned not striding last start and effort OK with some support. Mile suits, keep safe. 12
10 MINGS MAN ** Got the favours when winning well last start and have to respect on winning form with no weight. 15
11 OPTIMUS *** Form better than it reads and ran on well against the bias last start. Goes close from gate 4. 8.00
12 THE ODDS *** Took and age to break maiden win but can go on with the job on that strong effort. 6.00
13 HAPPY SAGA ** In solid form on the Poly but handles the turf and gets the favours from gate 1. 12
14 SPUR ME ON ** Solid effort on the pace last start and could add value to exotic combinations. 33
15 MILLENNIUM'S RULE *** Very much appreciates first up run and looks a solid each-way show with tongue-tie off. 8.00
Race 11
LIM’S ROYAL looks a very exciting type and he could be one of the better bets on what could have been a testing day for punters. The lightly-raced 4YO featured heavily in the Stewards report at his first two starts before getting his act together to knock in an impressive win at start three. A spell followed and after an eye-catching effort against the bias when resuming, he showed he is the real deal with a very strong win in Class 4 Company over 1200m. His maiden win was over 1400m and given he likes to get back and run on strongly, the Long Course (B) looks ideal as does the extra 200m. They won’t miss him in the ring and those that want to look elsewhere for some value could consider both CHOCOLATS and MADE IN CHINA who both come off last start placings. CHOCOLATS in particular would have benefitted from a solid Singapore debut where he made the running before being found out late. He will strip fitter for the run and with blinkers removed the 4YO should be ridden a tad quieter and he will figure late with Jeff Lloyd up. MADE IN CHINA will enjoy gate 2 and will be prominent throughout and certainly showed enough to the wire last start to think he wins in this Company sooner than later. Betting Strategy - LIM'S ROYAL win.
