Hellova Street makes all at Flemington

The Tasmanian Hellova Street came and conquered Flemington on Thursday for his third visit to Melbourne’s premier course and his second win. The Scott Brunton trained seven-year-old Helike gelding made all under Brenton Avdulla to take the $200,000, Group 3 TCL TV Stakes (1400m) and extend his excellent spring in Victoria.

It was the third race of this campaign for Hellova Street with the two earlier Handicap starts resulting in seconds at Caulfield, over 1100m on October 1st and 1200m at The Valley on October 27th.

Avdulla was positive from barrier 10 and after leading into the main straight Hellova Street had the ability to step up a gear when Avdulla asked as the challengers tried to close. Hellova Street (55.5kg) did not falter once in the long stretch to the line.

Supply And Demand (Sebring) (57.5kg) and apprentice Beau Mertens were second with Fox Hall (Foxwedge) (54kg) and Luke Currie third.

The margins were 3/4L and 3/4L with the time 1.22.40 on the Good 3 track and the final 600m in a smart 33.85. Hellova Street paid $4.80 on fixed odds and $4.70 on the NSW tote.

“It is fantastic to be part of the show. He is an absolute ripper. You look at the size of him and he probably looks a bit out of place, but that’s because you can’t see the V8 engine under the bonnet,” said Brunton.

“You hope people notice the hard work that goes into it. I do a lot of the thinking, but a lot of people do the hard yards. They do a great job, it is hard enough getting a horse to the races let alone winning it, so they deserve a lot of the credit,” he said.

"It is always great to come to Flemington, especially when you get a winner. I won on this little fella last time, and I thought he had a good chance today. You have just got to let him bowl along, there is nothing of him and he has got a few little quirks. He is probably the first off the bridle but he is also the last man standing, so all credit to Scotty and his team because they have placed him well, and he has got the job done,” said Avdulla.

Hellova Street, out of the Secret Savings mare Butter Street, took his earnings to $727,875 for owners Mr L A Lamont, Mr A J Virieux, Mr S C Saltmarsh, Mrs M J Lamont and Mr L C Virieux.
