Pike returns for third visit on Dester Singapore Gold Cup day
The Singapore Turf Club has granted a one-day visiting jockey’s licence to Australian jockey William Pike for the Dester Singapore Gold Cup meeting on Sunday, 12 November, 2017.
Booked to ride in the Group 1 race over 2200m, the nine-time Perth champion jockey will also take rides in the supporting races.
The 31-year-old jockey will be at his third Singapore visit. After finishing eighth aboard Lim’s Samurai in the Group 1 Patron’s Bowl on 18 June, 2017, he fared a lot better in the Group 1 Emirates Singapore Derby three weeks later, with a second place aboard the same horse behind Infantry.
Unsuccessful at his first visit, Pike did not go home empty-handed the second time around, bringing up two wins aboard Chairman and Mr Crowe, both for ex-Kranji trainer Laurie Laxon.
The dominant jockey in Perth in the last decade, Pike boasts more than 1,800 winners over a period of 15 seasons, including five at Group 1 level, namely the Perth Cup and WA Derby twice, and one Railway Stakes, 38 at Group 2 and 3 level.
Besides Singapore, Pike did ride in Hong Kong with success in 2009 and 2012.
Pike is again well clear on the 2017/2018 Perth metropolitan log, leading on 35 winners, 22 clear of the next best, Chris Parnham.
He goes to scale at 53kgs.
