Friday meeting preview

Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

A standalone Friday meeting at Kranji as Singapore freshens up for next weekends Dester Singapore Gold Cup weekend, which also includes the popular EW Barker on the Friday night.

So punters will have to be on their toes early this Friday and with the first four races on the E Course (Short), on-pace runners will be the flavor of the night.

GET GOING fits that bill in race 1 on the card and while the honest 7YO finds it hard to win and is yet to salute below 1400m, he can lead in this Class 5 1200m field and will be very hard to pass with a handy 2kg Shafrizal claim.

The Polytrack racing kicks in at race 5 with an intriguing BM74 over 1700m where BLACK SWAN will be out to show his last start, record-breaking 1800m Poly win, was no fluke.

The 5YO was considered ‘honest at best’ before absolutely smashing his rivals last start but it was the record time that had all and sundry scratching their collective heads.

There is no reason to think he can’t (and should start favourite) but it is a step up in Class and the likes of MCGREGOR and BATTLE OF TROY - both also last start winners - will be more than competitive while MIGHTY EMPEROR is a trip and track specialist and does look the testing material.

Best Bets: (DUTROW race 9, win), (ASTROCANDY race 3, value) and (CHAIRMAN WIND race 6, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 6 (1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7), race 7 (2, 4, 6, 7 and 13), race 8 (1, 3, 4, 5 and 6), race 9 (2, 3, 5, 6 and 8).

Race 1
With the E Course (short) likely to favour on pace runners, GET GOING gets his chance. Yes, the 7YO does struggle to win as a rule and is more suited over 1400m, however, this field is not strong and he very well may lead the field into the straight and be hard to run down. In his favour is the fact there doesn't look a lot of early speed in this race but the likes of SIR REGINALD, TASSAJARA and MUSCULAR DRAGON all would go close if they are in the firing line when things get serious. Of the rest, keep ALRINA very safe as he will appreciate Class 5 Company and would give this a shout with a positive ride from Zawari from the wide draw. Market best guide on most others in what is a tricky opener for punters. Betting Strategy - GET GOING each-way.
1 ALRINA *** Maiden who has shown glimpses and could show up with positive ride at first start in Class 5 Company. 12
2 DICAPRIO ** Nothing last start in Class 4 but went close two back in this Company. Needs to make use of gate 1. 12
3 EVIL SPEEDO ** Maiden who is impossible on form but gets senior hoop and should appreciate Class 5 so keep safe. 20
4 GET GOING *** Usually seen over 1400m but will go forward and give a sight on a track that should suit on pace runners. 5.00
5 LEONARDO ** Improved effort last start suggests he is worth following with best work expected late. 12
6 MUSCULAR DRAGON *** Wins sooner than later in Class 5 and gets his chance if he can race handy from the good gate. 5.00
7 SIR REGINALD *** Another winning hope better suited over longer but could give a sight with positive ride. 5.00
8 SCORPIO ** Resuming. Tough horse to follow but goes OK when on-song with blinkers off for this. 12
9 TASSAJARA *** Long-term maiden who was disappointing last start but did look due prior. 8.00
10 VOYAGER ** Appreciates first-up run after breaking maiden status last preparation. Keep safe. 12
11 HIPPO VENTURA * Struggles as a rule. 50
12 SMIDDY BYRNE * Another tough horse to follow and might be a better option on the Poly. 12
Race 2
Absolutely nothing jumps off the page in this Restricted Maiden on either trial or race form so a market watch is a must. As it stands, POWER RANGER may be the one to beat after some good recent trials. The 3YO was showing little at some of his earlier efforts but a change of stables and a gear change at his most recent trial suggests he has plenty to offer with blinkers on and Munro up. Of the other debutantes, KRANJI GOLD and OVERSEER have been solid at the trials and are well worth a look while EDDIE GRAY gets Boss on the back of some quiet trials so the tote a good guide on his chances. Of the raced brigade, RIN TIN TIN looks hopeless on form but a recent trial was good enough to think he can improve with Nunes up and VENUS DE MILO will appreciate being back on the turf. But to be fair, we are clutching at straws here. Betting Strategy - POWER RANGER win.
1 KING OF HOUSEHOLD * The odd good trial but has had his behaviour issues so prefer to watch on debut. 8.00
2 EDDIE GRAY ** First Official Trial OK and gets Boss so market watch in order on debut. 6.00
3 HARVEYWALLBANGER * Struggled on debut but subsequent trial with pacifiers added solid so could improve. 33
4 HIGH LIMIT * Improved effort last start but like to see more before considering. 12
5 KRANJI GOLD ** Solid at the trials and could get the favours from gate 1 so worth thought. 5.00
6 POWER RANGER *** Recent trials after changing stables have been good and could give a sight in this weak field. 2.70
7 RIN TIN TIN ** Has struggled at the races but recent trial looked good enough to keep safe with Nunes up. 12
8 VENUS DE MILO ** Coming off a shocker but will appreciate being back on the turf with best work expected late. 12
9 QUEEN OF QUEENS * Gets winkers but impossible on form. 33
10 OVERSEER ** Another debutante who has been solid without being spectacular at the trials so market only guide. 8.00
Race 3
Plenty of horses that can and most likely will race on the pace in this maiden field and it may be the case of whoever gets a soft lead or a nice handy sit wins. Those that will be prominent throughout include ONE KINABALU, BELT AND ROAD, KING OF WAR and LIBECCIO and you would expect that quartet to figure heavily in the money. LIBECCIO has drawn the ace so could get the expected rail favours although BELT AND ROAD does have enough pace to overcome his wide gate to have some say in the early speed battle. However, ONE KINABALU did look a good thing beaten when resuming and could be the one to beat if handy in running. Of the rest, ASTROCANDY looks the big improver back in maiden Company with a solid trial under his belt and should be value. Betting Strategy - Box 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 in a quartet or trifecta.
1 WEST NORTH HILL * Showed nothing on debut but that was in Class 4 Company so could improve. 20
2 BELT AND ROAD *** Led before being run down late last start and should be in this a very long way. 4.00
3 ONE KINABALU *** Slow start and traffic issues looked very costly when resuming as favourite and hard to beat if handy in running. 3.00
4 KING OF WAR *** Desperate for a result for the support he gets but will be prominent throughout and goes close with blinkers and tongue-tie off. 3.00
5 LIBECCIO *** Solid effort on the pace last start and expect much the same here after drawing the ace again. 12
6 ASTROCANDY *** Form reads badly but very much appreciates being back in Maiden Company on the back of a strong trial. Value. 12
7 BRING ME JOY ** Does mix his form but has enough pace to run a cheeky race at odds. 20
8 EL TORDILLO * Excuses last start and will run on solidly but easier to ignore on this track. 33
10 POWER WARRIOR * Another that will be running on but better suited elsewhere. 20
11 BRIMSTONE * Did it tough last start but still needs to show more. 50
12 RIVER FORTUNE * Back in trip and hard to have. 100
13 EASTERN VICTORY * Resuming and trials OK but race form terrible. 100
14 BIG REGARDS * Saddle did slip last start but still needs to find a few length before considering. 20
Race 4
Another top-heavy race with four or so serious hopes and not much on offer from the rest. The quartet that should fight out the finish are SUPER BIG, LUCKY BOY, JOYOUS and MILLION ROUND and it will pay to keep an eye on the market for any stable support. In particular, MILLION ROUND does tend to get support when winning so the tote will be an excellent guide and worth noting the 6YO won the last time he raced on the turf. LUCKY BOY gets blinkers so a very forward run is expected and Champion-elect hoop Vlad Duric on-board is a factor. JOYOUS is better over 1400m but can lead so will be in this a very long way with Munro up and SUPER BIG had excuses last start (roarer) and goes close on form prior. Betting Strategy - LUCKY BOY win, Box 4, 5, 6 and 7 in a trifecta.
1 MAGIC PAINT ** Freshened after returning not striding last start and have to take on trust. 12
2 POP GEMS * Needs longer. 33
3 SHUYING XIAOXIAO * Appreciates first up run but should need longer again to show his best. 20
4 SUPER BIG *** Returned a roarer last start and only win has been over 1400m but has pace and in this a very long way. 4.00
5 LUCKY BOY *** Form better than it reads and could be hard to hold out with blinkers back on and Duric up. 3.20
6 JOYOUS *** Best form is over 1400m but can lead and always a show. 6.00
7 MILLION ROUND *** Can mix his form and not often seen on the turf but won the last time on the grass and in this a long way with support likely. 4.00
8 PERFECT CHALLENGER ** Returned a roarer (again) last start but always some show if right. 12
9 NOVA STAR * Ran on OK late last start but like to see more before considering. 33
10 ELITE GUSTAVO * Usually disappoints. 200
11 GOOD LUCKY * Struggling of late. 50
12 RAMZES * Needs longer. 50
13 MARGAUX * Nuisance value only. 50
Race 5
Given BLACK SWAN broke the Polytrack 1800m record last start when demoralising a Class 4 field by some six lengths, he might be hard to beat. But working on the 'one swallow does not a summer make' punting theory, we can find one or two at value that can beat him. MIGHTY EMPEROR has seven Poly wins to his name - three this trip - and will obviously appreciate being back on this surface with the Juglall booking a pointer. CASTOR will also find this Company to his liking and this trip has looked his caper of late so gets another chance while the blanket goes over the rest of the field which includes another two last start winners in BATTLE OF TROY and MCGREGOR. Betting Strategy - MIGHTY EMPEROR each-way.
1 CASTOR *** Form starting to read badly but this type of race and Company looks his caper so can win. 12
2 SUPERNOVA *** In form, handles trip and track and right in this. 5.00
3 BATTLE OF TROY *** Rarely seen on the Poly and tested this trip on but in winning form and should figure. 8.00
4 MCGREGOR *** Another last start turf winner up in trip but has won this surface and must be respected. 5.00
5 MIGHTY EMPEROR *** Coming off a good turf run and much better suited back on the Poly. Big show. 5.00
6 TURQUOISE KING ** Just fair last start in similar Company but will be competitive. 20
7 BLACK SWAN *** Broke the 1800m record when winning on this surface in Class 4 last start and pay to follow. 3.00
8 SMART VINTAGE ** Appreciates gate 1 and step up to what is a more suitable trip but tested this Company. 20
9 NORTHERN KNIGHT ** Nothing last start and up in Class but loves the trip and surface and could sneak a place with no weight. 20
Race 6
While this Class 5 field certainly has depth, CASEY will find the company to his liking and the 3YO gets a chance to break his maiden status. And hopefully at value too given he faded over the mile at his last start but happy to think he did it tough enough in running on that occasion to follow from gate 2. And another horse that should be value and will be a big improver back in Class 5 is CHAIRMAN WIND. The 5YO has only won once but finds himself back in suitable company with headgear back on also a factor. SATELLITE STAR also gets blinkers/pacifiers and will grow a leg back on the Poly while last start winner, FORTUNE SPIRIT, will also enjoy the all-weather track. MURDOCH may start favourite but his Poly form is a concern (as is his gate) and FIRST PASSTHEPOST will be running on. Betting Strategy - CASEY each-way, saver on CHAIRMAN WIND at odds.
1 CASEY *** Maiden who showed last start he handles the Poly and gets his chance from gate 2 in Class 5. 6.00
2 CHAIRMAN WIND *** Form reads badly but is the big improver dropping to Class 5 with blinkers/pacifiers back on. 12
3 MURDOCH *** Found trouble when running on last start as favourite on the turf and goes close here with luck in running. 5.00
4 SATELLITE STAR *** Drawn wide but could be hard to hold out with blinker/pacifiers back on with switch back to winning surface a big factor. 8.0
5 DESTINY KNIGHT ** In form and trip suits but Poly form still a concern. 12
6 FIRST PASSTHEPOST *** Maiden who had traffic excuses last start and looked to have enough in tank late to follow. 20
7 FORTUNE SPIRIT *** Won on the turf last start with no weight but more than handles the Poly so can follow. 7.00
8 KASHAN ** Blinkers off and trip suits but may need a weaker field than this to show his best. 12
9 PERCIUS * Gets blinkers and should improve but yet to place beyond the mile and better on the turf. 6.00
10 DRAGON ** Coming off a shocker but gets gate 1 and some hope on form prior. 12
11 GOLDEN JADE * Nothing last start in similar affair and easier to ignore. 50
12 URBAN LEGEND ** Starts can be costly but will be running on at the business end. 12
13 CLUTHA LAD ** Race is suitable but has to improve on recent outings. 20
14 MONGOLIAN CHIEF ** Disappointing last start but another that can run on strongly when in the mood. 20
Race 7
A competitive BM67 with a few that will find this easier than recent outings. GREY FALCON drops to his winning grade and distance, the claim helps and he should be prominent throughout. SIAM SAPPHIRE also drops back to his winning class; he is awkwardly drawn but could be prominent with Manoel Nunes to ride. Of those with recent form in this grade, DREAM COMES TRUE just missed last start and he should be prominent throughout while UNSURPASSED was on the speed and fought hard in this class two starts back and did it tough last start; he is awkwardly drawn but should be prominent. Of the rest, HERO I AM battled on when resuming and has a good record second-up while the first emergency, MAXIMUS, resumes with a smart trial under his belt and could win if he gets a start. Betting strategy - GREY FALCON each-way, saver on MAXIMUS.
1 CRAZY TIMES * Nuisance value only. 200
2 DREAM COMES TRUE *** Just missed in this class last start. Best efforts have been on turf but should be prominent throughout. 5.00
3 LUCKY STRIDE * Did not show up when resuming but has trialled well since. Previous form sound but might need turf and longer. 14
4 GREY FALCON *** Drops to winning grade and distance after tough run last start. Claim helps and should be prominent throughout. 3.50
5 HERO I AM ** Battled on when resuming and has a good record second-up. Should be running on. 8.00
6 SIAM SAPPHIRE *** Had to work at recent run after tardy start. Goes close in this Company with luck from wide gate. 4.50
7 SUPER LINE *** Ran on well this class and distance two starts back and expect much the same. 14
8 UNSURPASSED ** Was on the speed and fought hard in this class two starts back before tough run from wide gate last start. Draw a concern again. 8.00
9 LONGHU ** Placed in Class 4 last start and should be prominent from the good gate. 14
10 REACH FOR THE SUN * Recent form moderate but may find this easier. 20
11 TINGLE MARC ** Appreciates tough enough Singapore debut and will improve with racing. Keep safe. 20
12 LIM'S STARDOM * Blinkers off but form moderate and needs easier. 50
13 MAXIMUS *** Resuming with smart trial under his belt. Has ability so keep very safe. 33
14 PRATT STREET ** Won Class 5 four starts back and has been solid in Class 4 since so a must for exotics. 33
Race 8
A moderate group of Class 5's over the 1100m journey on the polytrack. CERDAN has been supported numerous times and disappointed but his recent trials have been good and if he puts in a genuine effort, he may be hardest to beat. PARKER is dropping back in trip and his best form is on turf but he just missed over this trip four starts back in Class 4; if he can replicate that, will be very hard to hold out. Off the rest with any hope, HEE'S FORTE is a Class 5 journeyman and could be closing late, SOUTHERN CHIEF hasn't won for a while but only wins have been at this trip while WAR STORY, HEE'S EGO and the veteran SACRED CROWN, will battle away. Betting strategy - CERDAN each-way.
1 CERDAN *** Resuming. Has been trying for a while but trials have been solid and from the good gate should be prominent. Watch for support. 5.00
2 DIVERGENT ** Long-term maiden who will appreciate Class 5 and shown glimpses so keep safe. Gate a concern. 33
3 HEE'S FORTE *** Will go back from the wide gate but could be closing late. 5.00
4 PARKER *** Dropping back in trip and best form is on turf but just missed over this trip four starts back in Class 4. Will be hard to hold out on that effort. 4.00
5 SOUTHERN CHIEF *** Hasn't won for a while and disappointing last start but only wins have been at this trip. 5.00
6 WAR STORY *** Had support disappointing as favourite last start when resuming but worth another look with blinkers off. 10
7 START ME UP * Struggled over a mile last start and drops back in trip. Has been trying for a while but could be running on. 16
8 HEE'S EGO ** Placed over 1000m three starts back and has won at the trip. Will get back but could be running on. 12
9 JOHN DUKE * Needs to improve on recent efforts. 50
10 SACRED CROWN ** Has a much better record than any of these but last win was over a year ago and has only battled at recent outings. 10
11 SILENT CONNECTION * Yet to place in 13 poly outings and failed to beat a runner home when resuming. 50
12 KAISER BRIGHT * Caught wide at recent outings and once again not helped by the gate. 33
13 RACING TALENT ** Resuming with blinkers back on after some moderate efforts. Has some speed and could be prominent. 25
14 DELFYNE ** Did it tough last start so worth another look in this Company from better gate. 25
Race 9
As usual a Class 4 with plenty of depth to finish the night and it may be DUTROW who is hardest to beat. The 4YO broke his maiden status two starts back before showing he is up to this grade last start and he wins without surprising. TERMS OF REFERENCE drops significantly in grade and will enjoy being back on the Poly; with Barend Vorster to ride he should be hard to hold off. MELTING POT had good West Australian form and made a nice Singapore debut; he should be improved, get a good run throughout and be hard to hold off. They aren't the only chances. ELITE DIAMOND is yet to win in Singapore but has not been far away at recent outings and could show up with Manoel Nunes to ride while the resuming PANACHE maybe better over longer, but has first up form and is worth a look. EFFORTLESS, O'WHAT A FEELING and BUENOS AIRES are others capable of making their presence felt. Betting strategy – DUTROW win and couple with TERMS OF REFERENCE in a swinger.
1 KNIGHT WAGER ** Hasn't won for a long time but will find this Company to his liking with Michael Rodd up. Could be closing late. 16
2 TERMS OF REFERENCE *** Drops significantly in grade and will enjoy being back on poly. Should be hard to hold off. 3.50
3 DUTROW *** In form and showed himself up to this grade following Initiation win. Should get a good run throughout. 4.00
4 EFFORTLESS ** Recent turf form poor but suited this class and surface. Could improve. 12
5 MELTING POINT *** Made a good debut and should be improved over 1200m. Big show. 5.00
6 O'WHAT A FEELING *** All sorts of excuses when resuming with support but work late suggests he wins very soon. 12
7 BUENOS AIRES ** Has only battled since arrival but recent trial was sound and gets tongue-tie. Keep safe. 12
8 ELITE DIAMOND *** Yet to win in Singapore but not far away at recent outings and could show up with Manoel Nunes to ride. 12
9 PANACHE ** Resuming after winning over a mile but has first up form this trip. Trialled nicely, gets a tongue-tie and could be prominent. Watch for support. 12
10 SWIFT * Has battled at recent starts and better suited in Class 5. 33
11 SNIP ** Form looks ordinary but will appreciate better gate and could surprise at odds. 33
12 GALLANT HEIGHTS * Wants longer and better in Class 5. 50
13 MUSCLE BEACH ** Drops back in trip but late last year under similar circumstances so keep safe. 25
14 D'GREAT DANGER ** Showed speed at Singapore debut and could improve for the outing. 25
