Sunday meeting preview

Sunday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

A 10-race mixed surface meeting from Singapore on Sunday and while there looks some excellent turf races, a 1000m Poly dash (race 8) looks the pick of the card.

And while the likes of CADET, MR LUCK and SUPER SIX have multiple wins over the trip and track and can win, two very progressive 4YO’s in SIR ISAAC and SKYWALK are the one’s to watch.

Both have form from the impressive 2017 Three-Year-Old Series and SIR ISAAC showed that form would more than hold up when winning first up in KSC Company over 1100m.

And while he has been a tad disappointing not to have won since, he gets a visor added on the back of a strong trial and he should show his best in this field.

SKYWALK was in the mix with SIR ISAAC in the 3YO Sprint and more importantly has won at BM74 level.

His first up turf run was solid and he looks well placed back on the Poly to show he is the real deal on any surface.

Elsewhere on the card, CLARTON SUPER has been asked to carry a ‘good horse’ weight in race 9 but with a handy 2kg claim, he can get back in the winners circle although punters would be well advised to keep one eye on an interesting newcomer from Italy via Hong Kong in DEE DEE D’OR who could be value.

Best Bets: (BRINGER OF WAR race 5, win), (THE WIND race 3, win) and (ZA’EEM race 6, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (Field), race 8 (3, 4 and 10), race 9 (1, 2 and 5) and race 10 (2, 4 and 11).

Race 1
A rare Class 5 of reasonable quality and some depth. JACKS SECRET has just missed at his past two outings and while he is running out of chances for faithful followers, he gets his chance. He has drawn wide but Vlad Duric replaces Hanafi and that is a factor. BORN A FIGHTER won a Class 5 three starts back and is suited here; he drops in grade and should be handy throughout with Michael Rodd to ride. AURORA AUSTRALIS has placed at his past two outings in this company; blinkers go back on and he should be handy throughout. These look the main chances though last start winner LIM'S SIGNATURE is not without a chance in a competitive race while you have to respect two last start winners in KUBERA'S CHIEF and TURQUOISE SON. Betting strategy - JACKS SECRET to win.
1 AURORA AUSTRALIS *** Placed at past two outings in this company. Blinkers go back on and should be handy throughout. 5.00
2 BORN A FIGHTER *** Won in this company three starts back and suited here. Drops in grade and should be handy throughout with Michael Rodd to ride. 4.00
3 JACKS SECRET *** Has just missed at past two outings. Awkwardly drawn but with Vlad Duric replacing Hanafi, gets his chance to break through. 4.00
4 KUBERA'S CHIEF ** Won in this class last start and with Zuriman's claim carries the same weight. Awkwardly drawn but can be prominent. 10
5 LIM'S SIGNATURE *** Ran on fairly over 1400m in this class last start. Only win was over this trip in this class 5 starts back. Should be running on. 10
6 PATROCLUS ** Maiden who can improve at odds on the back of good trial. 25
7 METTLESOME * Freshened but has shown little to date. 33
8 RAPTOR * Not far away two starts back over 1600m and blinkers come off. Recent trial was solid but may need longer. 25
9 GOLDEN MILE * Only wins have been over this trip. Having second start for new stable with blinkers off and needs to improve. 33
10 NOVA SPIRIT * Well beaten at both outings since changing stables and dropping back in trip. Needs to improve. 33
11 SUPER EIGHT ** Made ground when resuming from wide gate. Poorly drawn again but could be running on. 16
12 TURQUOISE SON ** Finally broke through over this trip last start but that race was weak so take on trust. 6.00
13 YOURSTOKEEP ** Improved last start and suited this Class and distance. Should be on the speed throughout. 8.00
14 LUCKY BOY ** Not far away at recent outings. Goes best when ridden forward and could show up. 20
Race 2
A Restricted Maiden with only a few chances on revealed form. DON DE LA VEGA is improving with racing and 1400m looks his caper. His recent trial was strong and with the claim for Amirul, he should be hard to hold off. FLASH has placed at both outings, the most recent over this trip; he is awkwardly drawn but should be running on. TESORO PRIVADO has also placed at both outings and from the good gate should be handy throughout for Barend Vorster. Of the rest, BASILISK was held up last start after placing on debut and happy to think he has more to offer. Betting strategy - DON DE LA VEGA to win, box 1, 2, 5, 8 and 9 in a trifecta or first four.
1 FLASH *** Has placed at both outings the most recent over this trip with excuses in running. Goes close. 4.00
2 DON DE LA VEGA *** Went very close in similar affair last start and recent trial was strong. Claim helps and should be hard to hold off. 3.00
3 FORESTO ** Ran on without threatening last start. Improving and could be closing late. 6.00
4 MIGHTY PHOENIX * Has shown nothing to date. 33
5 BASILISK *** Held up last start and looked to have something in the tank so well worth another look. 20
6 ELITE ROCKET * Gets blinkers but needs to improve on debut. 33
7 SEE NO EVIL ** Resuming after solid 2YO debut and 1400m looks a good move. Watch market. 20
8 TESORO PRIVADO *** Ran on well last start against the bias and from the good gate should be handy throughout. 4.00
9 WHITE TRUFFLE ** Returned not striding out freely on debut and worked home late last start. Value. 20
10 ZULU WARRIOR * By Sidereus. Trials have been moderate. Watch market. 20
11 BIG WAVE * Showed some speed last start but needs to improve. 25
Race 3
Selections; 7 THE WIND - 10 STAR KING - 1 ASTROJET - 2 ATHENA
A very moderate Class 4 with several chances but most having pedestrian recent form. So a horse like THE WIND gets his chance in what is a race that suits. The 5YO has been racing on the Poly over shorter of late and given he has won twice at this trip, gets Duric and has a very good recent trial under his belt, he can win. STAR KING fought on well over this trip last start and while he is yet to win in Singapore, he has won over 1400m prior to arrival; he should be handy throughout and may have found a race weak enough. At the top of the weights, ASTROJET just missed in KSD company last start and will be more than competitive here while ATHENA broke through in Maiden company last start over this trip and looks a horse to follow. Betting strategy - THE WIND each-way.
1 ASTROJET *** Just missed in KSD company last start. This is not much harder and can be handy throughout. 5.00
2 ATHENA *** Broke through last start over this trip. This is harder but with Michael Rodd to ride should get a good run throughout. 7.00
3 KINGS RYKER * Battles away in this class and gets winkers but best Singapore form has been on poly over longer. 20
4 DANZEB ** Only battled in this class last start after Maiden win on poly but could improve with blinkers/pacifiers off. 14
5 LIM'S ELUSIVE * Resuming for new stable with blinker/pacifiers off. Trials just fair. Watch market. 20
6 TUN O'REILLY ** Disappointed in Novice company last start following Maiden win on poly. Take on trust. 14
7 THE WIND *** Showing glimpses on the Poly and recent trial was good. This race is suitable to show his best with Vlad Duric to ride. 5.00
8 TURF CHAMPION * Won Werribee Maiden over 2000m and placed five times from eight starts before arrival. Trials have been fair. Watch market. 20
9 RAFALE * Only win was over 1150m before arrival and has struggled to date. Might need easier. 33
10 STAR KING *** Fought on well over this trip last start. Yet to win in Singapore but won over this trip prior to arrival. Should be handy throughout. 4.00
11 HERACLES ** Won on Poly in Class 5 last start. This is harder and turf form only fair but gets the ace and should be competitive. 16
12 PARKER ** Has been battling away and only wins have been at this trip. Could be running on. 8.00
13 MILLENNIUM'S RULE ** Battled on over this trip when resuming. Only win was at this trip and could show up. 16
14 GREATBALLS OF FIRE ** Placed this class and distance last start. Best form is in Class 5 but could be running on. 10
Race 4
A Maiden of little depth with two main chances. THE ODDS has been hampered and held up at most recent starts which has obviously been costly. He will hopefully get some favours from gate 4 and should appreciate this distance and be hard to hold off with M Rodd to ride. HOWL has been runner-up at both outings so picks himself. The 4YO will very much appreciate the step up in trip and should be prominent throughout. These look the top two though SNAGGLE PUSS battled away last start after placing over this trip at his previous start while the likes of QINGDAO and PARADOR could improve. KEEP WINNING ran on at long odds last start so keep safe. Betting strategy - THE ODDS to win, swinger with HOWL.
1 QINGDAO ** Only battled when resuming but may be better suited here. Vlad Duric stays on and should be running on. 8.00
2 THE ODDS *** Hampered and held up at most recent starts. Needs some luck in running but should appreciate this distance and be hard to hold off. 2.50
3 GIN GO GIN * Yet to place in nine outings and needs to improve. 33
4 CAPE LINCOLN * Did not show up at debut. 33
5 HOWL *** Runner-up at both outings. Steps up in trip but should be prominent throughout. 3.00
6 RIVER OF DREAMS * Only battled when resuming. 33
7 YULONG HOLY FLYING * Made some late ground last start but needs to improve. 20
8 KEEP WINNING ** Ran on well late last start on Poly at long odds and pay to follow over 1400m. 16
9 PARADOR ** Battled away last start and blinkers go back on. Could improve with Manoel Nunes to ride. 10
10 SNAGGLE PUSS ** Battled away last start after placing over this trip at prior start. Can get a good run throughout with Alan Munro to ride. 8.00
11 ROUGHEAD * Blinkers off but needs to improve on debut. 200
Race 5
A pair of smart 3YOs feature in this Class 4 over 1000m on the poly. BRINGER OF WAR is resuming after showing plenty of promise as a 2YO including placing in the Golden Horseshow; her recent trial was solid and she has the speed to be prominent throughout. She also gets to jump from gate 4 which could be factor given MOKASTAR has drawn 11. But the 3YO gelding has been racing soundly in Novice Company on turf but won his Maiden over this trip and despite the wide gate, should be prominent. They look the pair with most up-side but there are a number of solid Class 4 performers to keep things interesting including EXCEED EXPRESS with a nice trial under his belt, FAITHFULLY with Nunes up from gate 1, BELIEVE IT OR NOT who appreciates his first up run and is suited this trip while the blinkers come off SOLDADO and he has looked due. Go wider in exotics. Betting strategy - BRINGER OF WAR win.
1 EXCEED EXPRESS *** Resuming sans blinkers (right side) and recent trial strong. Will give a sight. 14
2 FAITHFULLY *** Did it tough last start and pay to keep very safe from gate 1 with Nunes up. 14
3 SOLDADO ** Blinkers come off after something looked amiss when disappointing last start. Give another chance as does look due. 10
4 MOKASTAR *** Racing soundly in Novice company on turf. Won Maiden over this trip and despite wide gate should be prominent. 4.00
5 SMART FORTUNE * Needs to improve on effort when resuming for new stable. 33
6 BRINGER OF WAR *** Resuming. Showed plenty of promise as a 2YO placing in Golden Horseshow. Recent trial was solid and has the speed to be prominent throughout. 4.00
7 SOONBABY * Has been battling on turf but only win was on poly over this trip. Can improve from the good gate. 12
8 AUSPICIOUS ACE ** Racing soundly in this class. Suited this distance and should be running on. 8.00
9 BELIEVE IT OR NOT ** Resumed soundly and only wins have been at this trip. Poorly drawn but has the speed to be prominent. 6.00
10 LUCKY MISSION * Won Class 5 over 1200m last start and would prefer that trip. Could be running on. 20
11 HIKO YUNIKON ** Racing soundly and suited this distance. Will be running on late. 20
12 THUNDER CAT ** Ran on solidly last start over 1100m and has won twice at this trip. Could be closing late at odds. 20
13 ELITE TAKES ALL * Struggled at first outing for new stable but subsequent trial good. Watch market. 33
14 SWIFT * Better over longer and may be looking to get back into Class 5. 33
Race 6
A competitive Open Maiden with plenty of exposed form to go on but it may be a raced newcomer from NZ in ZA'EEM that beats them all. The 4YO had a crack at Group Company before stringing together a few solid placings before arriving and a good local trial suggests he can win. Of those with exposed local form, SILENT PRINCE lost in the Steward’s room two starts back and was not far away last start; he gets another chance with Barend Vorster replacing the apprentice Syafiq. COUNTRY BOSS was buffeted in stronger company last start and found Class 4 too hard at his previous outing; he finally gets into the right grade and gets a chance to break through. PEACE WANTED showed improvement last start and with Manoel Nunes staying on, should be prominent throughout. The chances don't end there with DARC BELT likely to improve on his debut via a better gate while GRAND CANYON also had a torrid introduction to Singapore and with blinkers coming off, may prove more tractable. Betting strategy - ZA'EEM each-way.
1 ZA'EEM *** Former Kiwi who placed five of eight and had a crack at Group Company. Trials like a winner. 6.00
2 GRAND CANYON ** Was green and copped plenty of strife at Singapore debut. Has trialled soundly since and with blinkers off could improve. 12
3 PEACE WANTED *** Showed improvement last start and with Manoel Nunes staying on should be prominent throughout. 4.00
4 ELITE GOLD * Has struggled since resuming and needs to improve. 33
5 COUNTRY BOSS *** Was buffeted in stronger company last start and found Class 4 too hard at previous outing. Suited this company and should be handy throughout. 5.00
6 PARAGON STAR * Looked to have every chance in similar affair last start and just battled. 10
7 ENERGIZER * Lost rider last start and only placings have been at this trip. Could be running on. 20
8 DARC BELT ** Had some support when never involved on debut from wide alley but work late suggests he has more to offer from gate 3. 10
9 RAJA MUDA * Improvement needed on debut effort. 50
10 SILENT PRINCE *** Lost in the stewards room two starts back and was not far away last start. Gets another chance with senior rider getting aboard. 4.00
11 BANGKOK BOY * Resuming after just fair debut. Bred to win anything and senior rider may help. 33
12 GOOD WARRIOR * No. 50
Race 7
A battler's Class 5 over 1700m and QUETZAL is the improver. 7YO resumed with a solid run over 1200m and after many subsequent trials, can show up with a tongue-tie added over a more suitable trip. CARNELIAN's form is sound since resuming and this distance suits; he has found a weak race and should be hard to hold off. MOON RIVER ran on well last start over this trip and with Alan Munro staying on, can be in the finish again. Of the rest, ANY RUMOUR hasn't won for a long time but this distance suits and he should be running on while BONJOUR BOB led throughout to win a weak one last start and he should be prominent. Betting strategy - hard to be confident, QUETZAL each-way.
1 CLUTHA LAD * Suited this class, surface and distance but coming off a shocker so play with care. 14
2 PACIFIC PEARL ** Caught wide last start but previous effort fair on this surface and may appreciate Class 5. 20
3 QUETZAL *** Appreciates first-up run and the step up to suitable trip after many trials. Keep safe with tongue-tie added. 14
4 RED RACKHAM * Failed to beat a runner home at past three outings. 50
5 SPIRIT SEVEN * Only win was this class and distance but recent efforts poor. 20
6 CARNELIAN *** Form sound since resuming and suited this distance. Has found a weak race and should be hard to hold off. 3.00
7 ANY RUMOUR ** Hasn't won for a long time but this distance suits and should be running on. 5.00
8 CHEETAH KING ** Ran on well when resuming and should be improved but best form is on turf. Take on trust. 16
9 MOON RIVER *** Ran on well last start over this trip and with Alan Munro staying on can be in the finish again. 5.00
10 BONJOUR BOB ** Led throughout to win a weak one last start. Stepping up in trip and should be prominent. 8.00
11 ZAHIR * Broke through on turf last start but is yet to place in seven poly outings. 12
12 PEREGRINE FALCON * Recent efforts poor and only wins have been on turf. 33
13 KASHAN * Improved by recent racing and suited this distance. Could be running on. 20
14 PERCIUS * Has been battling of late and best form is on turf. Has placed at this trip and could show up. 20
Race 8
Selections; 4 SKYWALK - 3 SIR ISAAC - 10 CADET - 6 SUPER SIX
A terrific race and some serious horses that should go on to bigger and better things so the form from this race will be worth following. Given it's a Poly dash, CADET will have admirers on the back of a strong trial. The 4YO's three career wins have all been over 1000m so he does look the course and distance specialist. SUPER SIX and MR LUCK also have multiple wins over 1000m and both are worth a look with one eye on value. But the two 'class' horses in this field are SKYWALK and SIR ISAAC. In particular, SKYWALK had a very good 3YO campaign and he appreciates a solid first up run and did win at his only start on the Poly, so must go close here. SIR ISAAC - who also had a good 3YO campaign - won when resuming on the Poly and while disappointing since, the now 4YO can win this with a visor added on the back of a good trial. Betting Strategy - Box 3, 4, 6 and 10 in a trifecta.
1 RED DAWN ** Has won this trip but might be better suited over 1200m in this field. 10
2 MR LUCK ** Mixing his form but effort three starts back in similar affair good enough to keep safe. 12
3 SIR ISAAC *** Disappointing last couple but recent trial with a visor good enough to win back on the Poly. 3.50
4 SKYWALK *** Drawn wide but appreciates solid first up run with support and won well at only Poly start. Big show. 4.00
5 DARCI CHARMER ** Resuming after being disappointing last start but gets the ace and will work into this late. 12
6 SUPER SIX *** Ran on well enough last start to think he plays a part in this on best form with gate 3 a factor. 12
7 UNCONQUERED ** Super disappointing last start when he looked to have every chance but pay to keep safe on form prior. 20
8 CHAMPAGNE REIN ** Can never discount but rarely wins so exotics best. 20
9 DAN THE MAN * Yet to fire in Singapore but last start was better than the result so can improve. 33
10 CADET *** Recent trial good enough to seriously consider in what is a very suitable affair. 6.00
11 LIM'S KNIGHT * In form but Poly form a worry at this level. 12
12 PURE JUSTICE ** Wide gate a concern but form better than it reads and some hope at odds. 33
Race 9
Another terrific race and the quality field is headed by the very smart CLARTON SUPER who has been allocated 59.5kg at the KSC conditions. A crucial 2kg Amirul claim makes the task of winning a lot easier and realistically, the 5YO could even be a good thing with the weight spread of the top contenders. BAO SHAN MAGIC carries 58kg and he is obviously a big danger on the form he has shown since arriving from NZ and the step up to 1400m is certainly not an issue given he won over that trip (and the mile) before arriving. The interesting runner is DEE DEE D'OR who won at Listed level in Italy before a stint in Hong Kong and his local trial suggests he has plenty to offer in Singapore. Last start winner, IRON MAN, rounds off the serious winning hopes but most others have a say if having a good day. Betting Strategy - CLARTON SUPER win, saver on DEE DEE D'OR.
1 CLARTON SUPER *** Very progressive 5YO who will need every bit of 2kg claim but can win with nice recent trials a factor. 4.00
2 BAO SHAN MAGIC *** Did it tough in running last start so the effort was very good to place and will work into this late. 4.00
3 GUILTY PLEASURES ** Won on the Poly last start but placed two back in similar fair to this. Exotics. 12
4 IRON MAN *** Led when winning well over the mile last start and goes close if ridden positively again. 4.50
5 DEE DEE D'OR *** Irish-bred 4YO who arrives via Italy (won Listed/placed at Group level) and Hong Kong. Local trial looked nice enough to go very well at Singapore debut. 12
6 DINGHU MOUNTAIN ** Finding it tough to win but very honest and in this a very long way. 12
7 MR SCORSESE ** Supported when battling late over the mile last start but gets blinkers and can figure in this. 6.00
8 EASTER MATE ** Struggled last start over the mile so may appreciate drop back to 1400m. 20
9 O'REILLY'S DANCER * Appreciates first up run in Singapore but like to see over longer before considering. 33
10 ANCIENT WARRIOR ** Will need easier to win but form better than it reads and will work into this late at odds. 33
11 GOLD CROWN ** Up in Class but won well last start and too honest not to include somewhere. 20
Race 10
YABADABADOO picks himself in the lucky last after winning at both career starts. The 3YO just got the chocolates on debut over 1100m but his next win on the turf over 1200m in Novice Company was good enough to think he is more than up to this with Nunes retaining the ride. JUSTICE LIGHT looks the danger on recent winning form. Yes, the 4YO only managed a third placing last start, but that was on the Poly and his three previous starts on the turf were all wins. Probably no value on this pair so BIG MAN could be a very good each-way option in what looks a suitable race as his best form is on the turf. A few others to keep safe including NOBLE LIAISON on the back of a slick trial. Betting Strategy - BIG MAN each-way.
1 CERTAINLY * Back significantly in trip a concern but will find Company to his liking. 33
2 JUSTICE LIGHT *** Showed last start he is up to this Company and will enjoy getting back on the turf. Goes close. 4.00
3 IVANHOE ** Never involved from wide gate last start and worth thought on Class 4 two back. 20
4 BIG MAN *** Always a show and 1200m on the turf looks his caper. 9.00
5 AHMAR * Will appreciate the turf and gate 1 but question marks at this level. 33
6 BEAR WITNESS ** Progressive type who drops back from the mile with solid recent trial under his belt. Keep safe. 12
7 EN CIVIL ** Another that drops back from the mile after poor run but form prior this trip suggests we can consider. 12
8 JUSTICE DAY ** Just battled last start and yet to win in Singapore but always thereabouts. 8.00
9 JUSTICE FIRST ** Broke through in Singapore last start in Class 4 when blinkers added on the Poly and can follow although this obviously tougher. 12
10 NOBLE LIAISON ** Coming off a shocker when resuming but has subsequently trialled very well so worth another look. 12
11 YABADABADOO *** Backed up debut win with a strong Novice victory and could be hard to beat with 53.5kg. 3.00

12 FIGHTING WARRIOR * Blinkers off and looking for easier. 3
