Friday meeting preview

Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

After outsiders GILT COMPLEX and SECRET WIN won the Raffles Cup and El Dorado Classic respectively last Sunday, punters would be hoping for a couple of the more favoured horses to get the money at Friday’s eight-race card.

And with a few newcomers looking handy enough at the trials to win at their respective debuts, the tote may be a good guide.

There are five debutantes in race 2 on the card and, from the trials, GEB WARRIOR won’t be missed in what looks a solid Restricted Maiden over 1200m on the Poly.

The 3YO had two good hit-outs with blinkers on and with Manny Nunes up from gate 5, he can win with support expected.

Two raced newcomers later in the card will also keep punters interested.

The oddly named (or badly spelt) DUSSERDOLF looks a handy enough type from Australia and while he will be better over longer, he has looked good enough at his trials to think he has something to offer on debut with value on offer in race 5.

IMPERIAL FALLS also looks an interesting newcomer from down-under and his form from Australia coupled with some nice trials suggests he could keep the likely favourite, PAPARAZZI, honest in the lucky last.

Best Bets: (GEB WARRIOR race 2, win), (DUSSERDOLF race 5, value) and (HAPPY SAGA race 6, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 5 (2, 3, 7, 8 and 9), race 6 (1, 2, 4, 5 and 6), race 7 (4, 6 and 10), race 8 (1, 2, 3, 5 and 8).

Race 1
An odd race where a few of the fancies may have forgotten how to win and the only last start winner looks tested this trip in slightly better company. FLYING SHADOW had excuses last start late after a big run two back. He has drawn well in gate 2 and he should be in the winning mix with more luck in running. STARSKY was sent out as favourite last start and was in the mix late and he also gets his chance after drawing favourably in gate 4. Of the rest, the veteran COOL CAT has been in very solid form of late and deserves to win another race while HOT GOLD should figure prominently with a solid trial under his belt. Keep the maiden, DAYUAN, safe as his recent trial was solid and Nunes looks a good booking. Betting Strategy - FLYING SHADOW each-way.
1 YELLOW JADE HORSE * Will appreciate Class 5 Company but impossible on form. 50
2 HOT GOLD *** Respiratory distress last start but has trialled OK since. In this a very long-way. 8.00
3 OCEAN MASTER ** Returned a roarer when in the place mix last start and expect much the same. 12
4 FLYING SHADOW *** Ran into trouble when making ground late last start and gets his chance from gate 2. 4.00
5 SOLITAIRE * Didn't show enough when dropping to Class 5 last start to consider. 20
6 THOTH WARRIOR * Third trainer at start six. Blinkers off after fading again last start. No. 33
7 DAYUAN *** Long-term maiden who gets Nunes on the back of a good trial. Keep safe. 12
8 HEPHAESTUS * Needs more than new shoes. 50
9 COOL CAT *** Veteran who is finding it tough to win but is in form and has to figure somewhere late. 5.00
10 RORY ** In form but a better winning option over 1000m. 10
11 STARSKY *** Went close as favourite in similar affair last start and gets his chance again here. 4.00
12 ONE O NINE * Won a weak one when running on over 1200m last start and may be tested in this. 12
13 CAVATINA * Gets the ace but disappointing last start and easier to ignore. 33
14 START ME UP * Long-term maiden who could work into his late but prefer others. 33
Race 2
A very interesting Restricted Maiden with a few debutantes trialling well enough to win and a nice type in FUSION POWER the one they have to beat. Obviously the market will be a terrific guide but FUSION POWER was gallant in defeat on debut and could be hard to beat with pacifiers added from gate 3. However, GEB WARRIOR has looked impressive enough at the trials to think he can win on debut and he will be given every chance from gate 5 with Manny Nunes a big factor. The other debutantes that look handy are MASTER MINER and WHAT'S NEW while LIM'S RHYTHM and EL CHAPO are both improvers after working home late at their respective debuts. Betting Strategy – GEB WARRIOR win, box 6, 7, 8 and 9 in a trifecta.
1 SILVER SKY * Hard to have on recent form. 50
2 NICATOR ** Blinkers off after showing little last start but worth one more look at odds on effort at his previous run. 33
3 AVENGERS HERO ** Had plenty of trials but pushed along in most. Market best guide. 20
4 BOUNCEBACK ABILITY * Hard to have on exposed trial form. 50
5 DESTROYER ECLIPSE ** A long way from the winner when placing on debut but the effort was solid and in this a long way. 8.00
6 EL CHAPO *** Never sighted on debut but work to line good enough to think has more to offer on the back of good trial form. 12
7 FUSION POWER *** Did it tough when in the winning mix on debut with rest of field not involved. Hard to beat. 3.00
8 GEB WARRIOR *** Trialling like he knows a bit about the racing caper and can win on debut with Nunes a factor. 3.00
9 LIM'S RHYTHM *** Never involved on debut until good work late so pay to keep very safe with senior hoop up. 12
10 MASTER MINER *** Has enough good trials under his belt to win on debut with market best guide. 8.00
11 WHAT'S NEW *** Another debutante who trials well enough to give this a shake with one eye on the tote. 10
Race 3
Truth be told this is an average Class 4 field which gives a couple of progressive types in ON ELECTRIC AVENUE and SILENT BOSS a chance to skip through the grade. ON ELECTRIC AVENUE showed last start that the turf is not an issue and his work late to place suggests he can win this with a more positive ride from the wide gate. SILENT BOSS has also drawn wide but always works home well so Juglall will have a few choices after jumping. His last start maiden win suggests 1400m is his caper and it may well be a race between these two. Nothing else jumps off the page, however, PENTAGON resumes after a good run of form including placing in KSC Company back in February and he goes close on best form. Blanket over the rest with one eye on the market. Betting Strategy - ON ELECTRIC AVENUE, SILENT BOSS swinger.
1 PENTAGON ** Resuming after good effort in better Company over 1800m back in February. Market best guide on the back of quiet trials. 6.00
2 ON ELECTRIC AVENUE *** Honest and showed more than enough late last start in similar affair to think he can win this if more prominent early. 2.50
3 SILENT BOSS *** Knocked in well deserved maiden win this trip last start and looks up to giving this a shake. 2.80
4 COUNTRY QUACK ** Nothing last start but may appreciate getting back on the turf and can improve at value. 10
5 ALARANCH * Blinkers off after struggling at his last couple and may need easier. 50
6 MAGNETISE ** Starts can be costly but can figure if Zyrul can make use of the ace. 12
7 DREAMER LEGEND ** May need easier to win but worth a look on turf effort two starts back. 20
8 MORALES ** Took a drop to Class 5 to win but honest enough on his day to include in exotics. 12
9 TYPHON * Maiden who needs easier. 33
Race 4
A very weak maiden and while there only looks a few with winning hopes, two of the fancies in YU LONG EMPEROR and DISCRETELY RED can be their own worst enemy. YU LONG EMPEROR just missed last start in a similar affair and also was flying late two starts back over 1800m. The Irish-bred 4YO had excuses on both occasions but will be hard to hold out in this field with any luck from gate 10. Likewise, DISCRETELY RED has been mentioned in the Stewards report on more than one occasion but does look due and gets his chance over the mile with Duric up from gate 1. RED RIDING WOOD looks the other obvious pick with the step up to the mile ideal while LIM'S MASTER could improve at odds for Boss from gate 2. Betting Strategy - YU LONG EMPEROR win.
1 AMIABILITY ** Gets blinkers but pushed out at recent trial with headgear and Poly form a worry. 8.00
2 DISCRETELY RED *** Needs things to go his way but Duric from gate 1 over the mile looks a good combination. 4.00
3 CASEY ** Battled away to be in the place mix last start and expect much the same at first start on the Poly. 12
4 IMDRAGON * May improve on the Poly but impossible on race form. 50
5 TOP BANANA * Struggles. 200
6 ULTIMATE KILLER * May beat home Top Banana. May not. 200
7 YU LONG EMPEROR *** Traffic excuses before flying late to just miss last start and wins this with any luck in running. 2.60
8 LIM'S MASTER ** Excuses last start and worth another look over this trip from gate 2. 12
9 SAINT LINCOLN ** Shown glimpses on the Poly and can include in exotics in this weak field. 12
10 RED RIDING WOOD *** In form, mile suits and can win this with Nunes up from gate 4. 4.00
11 GREEN RUTILE * No. 100
Race 5
Not an overly strong Class 4 field, so two last start winners in LIM'S REGARD and GOLD CITY obviously appeal. Unfortunately the pair have drawn badly in 14 and 13 respectively but given both have experienced hoops on-board, they are worth following. GOLD CITY was impressive winning well at his race debut and M Rodd would be thinking he has plenty to offer if thereabouts when things get serious. LIM'S REGARD is gunning for three-in-a-row and while he doesn't win by much, he does know where the finish line is. A newcomer from Australia in DUSSERDOLF will keep these two honest given he looks to have ability and has trialled well locally. Keep MIKCAIPHO and REALLY CAPABLE safe and a few others may be running on if the race suits swoopers. Betting Strategy - DUSSERDOLF each-way.
1 BIRAZ ** Wide gate a concern but will work into this late if race run to suit. 8.00
2 DUSSERDOLF *** Former Australian who will be better over longer but local trial good enough to keep safe at Singapore debut. 12
3 LIM'S REGARD *** Hard to fault winning form but wide gate will make this tougher. 6.00
4 KEEPITUP * Gets blinkers back on but like to see over longer again. 20
5 IMPERIAL MARCH * Blinkers off and another that needs longer to show his best. 20
6 COUNTRY WARRIOR * Appreciates first up run but like to see something this campaign before considering. 12
7 GOLD CITY *** Drawn wide but debut win was impressive and pay to follow. 3.60
8 MIKCAIPHO *** Pulled up with severe heat-stress last start and goes very close if right with gate 2 a factor. 8.00
9 REALLY CAPABLE *** Resuming. Best form is over 1400m but could easily show up fresh. 12
10 STEEL CUTTER ** Back in trip but will appreciate the being back on the turf with best work expected late. 20
11 BEST WISHES ** Did it very tough last start so effort OK and could surprise at odds with headgear off. 20
12 BELLUS WONDER * Needs Poly and easier. 50
13 FLYING WINNER ** Should need longer but ran on very well this trip last start and pay to keep safe. 12
14 SILENT ARROW ** Like to see in easier Company but showed enough late last start to include in exotics at odds. 20
Race 6
Nothing jumps off the page in this Class 4 Poly event over 1700m so it may pay to have a good look on the night for either stable confidence or each-way value. Hopefully, on the back on a last start eighth, HAPPY SAGA offers the latter as his form prior had him winning a race like this sooner than later. ARR FLAIR is honest and ran on well last start to just miss and no reason to think he doesn't do a similar thing here while SHOWAR led in the same race and was also in the winning mix so has to be respected. Add his stablemate, SHOQEET, into the each-way mix with WONDERFUL ERA also right in this with gate 3 a factor. Betting Strategy - look for value on the night, HAPPY SAGA each-way.
1 SHOWAR *** Led and led well before just missing last start in similar affair and has to be a chance in this. 5.00
2 WONDERFUL ERA *** Always a show in a race like this and worth an each-way look over 1700m from gate 3. 6.00
3 GOLD REWARD ** Struggled from wide gate this grade last start but better drawn here and will appreciate being back on winning surface. 6.00
4 ARR FLAIR *** In very honest form and will work into the winning mix late. 4.00
5 HAPPY SAGA *** Never involved last start before very good work late and wins one of these sooner than later. 6.00
6 SHOQEET *** Form reads badly but will enjoy getting back on the Poly and could show up over the mile with Duric up. 8.00
7 JUSTICE LASS ** Yet to win in Singapore but honest and always looks a show. 6.00
8 SUGARTIME JAZZ ** This Company will test but has been fighting on tenaciously in Class 5 so have to respect. 20
9 GOLDEN SPARK * Blinkers to visor but needs Class 5. 200
Race 7
This could very well be a race in two for punters with heavy support likely for both FILIBUSTER and SHAQRAA. The pair both come off strong last start wins and while FILIBUSTER's win was in Maiden Company, it was impressive enough to think she is in this a very long way with gate 1 a factor. Oscar Chavez won on SHAQRAA last start over 1000m in this Company and the extra 100m looks no issue given he was doing best work on the line. If we were to make a case for an upset, DECRETO is worth a thought. The 4YO just missed in a similar affair two starts back before having all sorts of issues at his most recent run and he goes close with luck in running from the wide gate. Plenty of others to include in exotics. Betting Strategy - FILIBUSTER win.
1 DREAMWEAVER ** Impossible on recent form but will find this Company to his liking so watch for any support. 20
2 WIJAYA ** Resuming after flashing home when also resuming back in April so keep safe. 20
3 DOUBLE RAINBOW * Resuming with blinkers after long spell. Prefer to watch. 50
4 FILIBUSTER *** Got the favours when leading throughout to win very well on debut and goes close again with gate 1 a factor. 3.00
5 SUNNY SKY ** SCRATCHED. Well-bred former Australian who won over 1200m at his last start. Local trial quiet so market best guide.
6 SHAQRAA *** Was going away when winning over 1000m last start in this grade and can win again. 2.70
7 UNCLE LUCKY ** Showed last start why he is always a show in races like this but wide gate makes this tough. 12
8 ELITE WARRIOR ** Ran on well last start and gets blinkers so should be more prominent. 12
9 BLACK MAGIC ** Will appreciate getting back on the Poly and pay to keep safe at odds. 20
10 DECRETO *** Draw a concern but had all sorts of excuses last start and well worth a look on run prior. 20
11 NATURAL IMPULSE * Supported when winning three starts back so market is always going to be best guide. 50
12 NOVA RANGER * Always pay to respect winning form but Class 5 looks his caper. 20
13 HALO BRIGHT ** Form reads badly but blinkers off and crenate trial sans headgear suggests he can improve. 12
14 NOVA CLASSIC ** Maiden who goes OK and can include in exotics at likely value. 20
Race 8
The STC looks to have left the best - if not the most interesting - race to last with all eye's on the smart Singapore debut winner, PAPARAZZI. The very well bred (and expensive) 4YO arrived a maiden after finishing second at two starts in Australia but his impressive win in this Class over this trip, certainly has him pegged as a horse to follow. He has drawn wide but so has a newcomer from Australia named IMPERIAL FALLS who could be his biggest danger. The 4YO was going round in good Company back in Australia and his local trials suggest he may have plenty to offer at his Kranji debut with one eye on the market. Keep QUEEN ROULETTE, GOLDEN KINGDOM and COPACABANA all safe. Betting Strategy - box 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 in a trifecta.
1 GOLDEN KINGDOM *** Very much appreciates first-up run and switch to winning surface. Big show with nice recent trial under his belt. 12
2 QUEEN ROULETTE *** Pay to ignore last start on the Poly as form prior has her winning again very soon. 6.00
3 PAPARAZZI *** Drawn wide but won very well at Singapore debut and will be very hard to hold out late. 2.50
4 RICH BEAUTY * Former Australian who will need longer than this to show his best. 50
5 IMPERIAL FALLS *** Former Australian who raced in good Company before arriving and local trials good enough to win at Singapore debut. 5.00
6 SEBASTIAN BACH ** Yet to threaten at two starts in Singapore but may appreciate getting on the grass. 20
7 SOUTHERN SPUR ** Saddle slipped last start and will appreciate being back on the turf and can improve at odds with blinkers back on. 20
8 COPACABANA *** Resuming after a poor effort on the Poly but his previous turf run was good and will win one of these. 8.00
9 LIM'S BLAST ** Good effort to break maiden status last start on Poly and should be competitive. 12
10 OLIVER * Struggled at his last few and easier to ignore. 33
11 O'REILLY BAY * In solid form but back in trip and should need much longer. 50
12 PHIDIAS * Last start win in Class 5 on the Poly and that may be his caper. 20
13 OPTIMUM STAR * Not seen often on the turf and may be looking for Class 5. 50
