Sunday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.
The Racing Guide Classic is the feature on what looks a terrific days racing from Singapore and the 1400m Set-Weight event looks an absolute cracker.
At the race conditions, it looks a pretty even affair and with no standout at the weights, those horses bang-in-form are the horses to follow.
Last start winner ARAMCO picks himself and although drawn wide in 13, the former Australian will have plenty of admirers and can knock in his fifth win at only his tenth start in Singapore.
THE GENERAL and FLAK JACKET are the other last start winners in the capacity field and while winning form has to be respected, THE GENERAL is a query at the trip and track while FLAK JACKET is tested at this level.
The interesting runner is the Emirates Singapore Derby runner-up, LIM’S SAMUARI.
And apart from that Group 1 placing, the Japanese-bred 4YO has also knocked in four wins at his 11 career starts and given the form from the Derby was more than franked with INFANTRY easily winning the Kranji Mile, he could be hard to hold out on the back of a nice recent trial.
Don’t discount MR FANTASTIC or FORTUNE WINNER at value in what could be one of the best non-Group feature races of the year.
Best Bets: (EDEN GARDEN race 5, win), (SKYWALK race 10, win) and (O’WHAT A FEELING race 9, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 7 (1, 2 and 6), race 8 (4, 5, 7 and 9), race 9 (3, 4, 5 and 8) and race 10 (1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 10).

Selections; 4 SATELLITE PRINCE - 3 MURDOCH - 6 ALFONSO - 1 BRILLIANT ONE
Quite a few Class droppers in this Class 5 who could show dramatic improvement on their form in higher grade so watch the market. SATELLITE PRINCE is one such Class dropper. He has battled at recent outings but has a good record at this class and distance; despite the awkward draw with Nooresh Juglall to ride he should be hard to hold off. MURDOCH fought on over 1800m last start when favourite and is better by suited this trip; he swaps Vlad Duric for a 4kg claimer but should be handy throughout. DESTINY KNIGHT won over 1800m last start in this company, he drops back in trip but should be running on. Value may lie with DREAM BIG who is still a Maiden but is showing steady improvement while ALFONSO is always a solid each-way show in races like this. Betting strategy - SATELLITE PRINCE win.
1 BRILLIANT ONE ** Made some ground late last start and will find Class 5 easier. Senior rider a factor. Watch market. 16
2 FUNKADELIC ** Dropping back to winning grade. Only win was at 1400m but could show up. 10
3 MURDOCH *** Fought on over 1800m last start. Better suited this trip and 4kg allowance may help. Hard to beat. 4.00
4 SATELLITE PRINCE *** Awkwardly drawn and has battled at recent outings but much better suited this class and distance. Can win. 4.00
5 DESTINY KNIGHT ** Ran on well to win over 1800m last and has won at this trip. Rises 1.5kg but with Manoel Nunes up should be running on. 8.00
6 ALFONSO *** Returned with respiratory distress last start. Previous form good enough with Rodd to ride. 10
7 DREAM BIG ** Still a Maiden but has shown improvement at recent starts. May be suited this distance and should be handy throughout. 10
8 EASY DRAGON ** Has battled away at recent outings but only win was at 1600m. Awkwardly drawn and blinkers to winkers. 10
9 HEAVENLY HAND * Won over 1200m two starts back in this grade but take on trust at the trip. 33
10 SAINT LINCOLN * Only placing was on poly. Needs to improve on turf efforts to date. 25
11 SPIRIT SEVEN * Has only battled since resuming and best earlier form was on poly. Needs to improve. 25
12 FORTUNE SPIRIT ** Recent efforts fair and with no weight could be running on. 10
13 SUN DANCE * Battling at recent starts and may appreciate drop to winning distance. 20
Selections; 2 FLASH - 3 SILENT BOSS - 4 SILENT PRINCE - 6 DON DE LA VEGA
Not a great deal of depth on revealed form in this Restricted Maiden so the tote will be a good guide. FLASH debuted well and has trialled well with blinkers since; from a good gate he should lead and is the one to beat. SILENT PRINCE was beaten in the Stewards Room after racing greenly last start; he is well drawn again and can be prominent throughout. SILENT BOSS is improving with racing and has trialled well recently and he will keep things interesting late. The value may lie with DON DE LA VEGA who improved last start after racing wide and should be suited by this distance. The field falls away after these with HERO IN THE WIND the only other with recent form and that is over longer. Betting strategy - FLASH to win. Box trifecta 2, 3, 4 and 6.
1 HERO IN THE WIND ** Led and fought on last start in Class 5 over 1800m. Drops back in trip and yet to place in seven outings but could show up. 14
2 FLASH *** Debuted well and has trialled well since. With blinkers on from a good gate should be prominent and hard to run down. 2.00
3 SILENT BOSS *** Improving with racing and has a recent good trial under his belt. Will be running on. 6.00
4 SILENT PRINCE *** Beaten in the stewards room after racing greenly last start. Well drawn again and can be prominent throughout. 3.50
5 BERLINETTA * Blinkers back on but needs to improve on efforts to date. 20
6 DON DE LA VEGA ** Improved last start when running on over 1200m after racing wide and should be suited this distance. Value. 10
7 FORESTO * Will improve with racing and may be running on OK last start effort late. 33
8 GOOD WARRIOR * Caught wide but needs to improve on debut. 50
9 IMDRAGON * Resuming with blinkers and has not shown up at recent trials. Needs to improve on efforts to date. 50
10 ROUGHEAD * By Sebring. Dam won three races up to a mile. Has shown little at trials. Watch market. 25
11 BIG WAVE * Fractious and did nothing at debut. Needs to improve. 50
Selections; 2 DUTROW - 6 DECRETO - 8 SILKINO - 1 BIRAZ
A strong Class 4 with quite a few in form. DUTROW broke through in a dominant fashion last start after a good debut effort and whilst this is harder, he should be right in this finish. DECRETO resumed well when just missing over this distance in similar company; he should be improved and will be hard to hold off. Of the rest, BIRAZ will find this easier than KSC Class and his Singapore debut in this grade on the Poly was strong, while SILKINO put in a strong effort to win well in this class last start and he could show up again. The field drops away after this but COUNTRY QUACK is improving and could show up fro the good gate. Betting strategy - DUTROW win. Box trifecta 1, 2, 6 and 8.
1 BIRAZ *** Will find this easier than last start and recent trial was sound. Big show on what he showed on Poly at Singapore debut. 5.00
2 DUTROW *** Broke through in a dominant fashion at second Singapore start. This is harder but should be handy throughout. 4.00
3 SUN LION * Geelong Maiden winner who has not show up at trials. Watch market. 14
4 COUNTRY QUACK ** Ran on fairly when resuming and should be improved from the good gate. 10
5 RAINBOW ROYAL ** Suited this class and distance and was checked last start so in the mix at value. 16
6 DECRETO *** Just missed when resuming in this company. Should be improved and should be hard to hold out. 4.00
7 HALO BRIGHT ** Blinkers back on and whilst there have been excuses has only battled since resuming. Can improve. 14
8 SILKINO *** Won well in this class last start. Rises 3.5kg but Nunes stays on and should get a good run throughout. 8.00
9 RIVER GOLDEN ** Has been running on but finding it hard to win. Could show up. 14
10 ALARANCH * Last run better than the result and could sneak into skinny end of exotics at odds. 33
11 BELIEVE IT OR NOT * Resuming after Class 5 win and has not shown up at trials. Watch market. 33
12 SOON YI * Gets a tongue tie and placed in this Grade last start at odds but better suited in easier. 25
Selections; 5 DARC BELT - 6 HOWL - 1 NOVA CLASSIC - 3 LIBECCIO
A promising newcomer up against a pair of professional placegetters in this Open Maiden makes it interesting for punters. The newcomer is DARC BELT who has trialled well in both New Zealand and Singapore. He has drawn badly but Boss and a positive ride could see a result. The two that find it hard to win are LIBECCIO who ran on OK on the Poly when resuming and enjoys the turf while ONE KINABALU is resuming after having placed at eight of ten starts (five on turf) and should be running on. Of the rest, HOWL had support and debuted nicely and doesn't have the convictions of some of the others so could be hard to beat while NOVA CLASSIC improved last start on the Poly when blinkers went on and could be value given his poor turf form. Betting strategy - Watch market on DARC BELT though HOWL may be the best play.
1 NOVA CLASSIC *** Unplaced at both turf outings but improved on the Poly when blinkers were added last start and will be running on. 12
2 ONE KINABALU *** Resuming. Has placed at eight of 10 starts, five on turf. Recent trials quiet but has to be a show. 5.00
3 LIBECCIO *** Ran on fairly on poly when resuming but has placed at seven of 10 outings on turf. Should be prominent from the good gate. 4.00
4 CAPE LINCOLN * By Cape Blanco. Dam won over 1340m. Has shown little at trials. Watch market. 33
5 DARC BELT *** By Darci Brahma. Half-brother to 3-time winner Commission and winner Tellem Ya Dreamin'. Trials have been good and won trial in NZ before arrival. Can win on debut despite wide gate. 10
6 HOWL *** Had support and debuted nicely. Has trialled since and should be prominent from the good gate. 3.00
7 LEONIDAS * Resuming with blinkers. Has shown little to date. 50
8 SATELLITE FIGHTER ** Ran a distant placing but showed speed at debut. Should be improved and can be prominent. 10
9 CALLIXTUS ** By Benfica. Half-brother to 7-time winner Lachie's A Star, 4-time winners Inaura and Lightning Fast. Has had numerous trials and should be ready for debut. Watch market. 16
10 GOLD CITY ** By Sufficient. Brother to 2-time winner Suffire and 3 other minor winners. Trial was solid. Could show up for Michael Rodd. Watch market 16
11 GALWAY GIRL * By Casemento. Has shown little at trials and poorly drawn. Watch market. 33
12 GINGERMAN * By Gingerbread Man. Dam won 3 times up to 1200m. Has not shown up at trials. Watch market. 33
13 LIM'S BLAST * Did it tough when resuming and should improve. 33
14 RIVER OF DREAMS * Resuming. Did not show up at debut and trials have been only fair. 33
Selections; 1 EDEN GARDEN - 4 SHE'S THE ONE - 8 PERCIUS - 7 CHEETAH KING
A moderate group of Class 5 battlers compete over 1600m. The one with some upside might be EDEN GARDEN who broke through last start after a series of consistent efforts; this distance suits and he could go on with it. PERCIUS is a Class 5 journeyman at best but will enjoy being back on turf and this is his optimum trip; with Michael Rodd to ride he should be running on. SHE'S THE ONE has been showing some consistency and drops back to a more suitable 1600m after a solid effort over 1800m last start; with Azhar staying aboard, can be in the finish. The rest are very limited conveyances although CHEETAH KING can run on strongly and has been freshened by recent trials. Betting strategy - EDEN GARDEN win.
1 EDEN GARDEN *** Broke through last start after a series of consistent efforts. Distance suits and could go on with it. 3.00
2 GREEN RUTILE * Has shown little to date. 50
3 MUSCULAR CAPTAIN * Only battled last start and has been freshened. Distance suits and could show up. 14
4 SHE'S THE ONE *** Ran on fairly over 1800m last start and with blinkers on could be suited this trip. Should be closing late. 6.00
5 GIORGIO ** Has been freshened after some moderate efforts. Trip suits and could be running on. 12
6 RIVER FORTUNE * Went forward over 1800m last start but knocked up. Gets Alan Munro but needs to improve. 33
7 CHEETAH KING *** Resuming after numerous trials and has a good record at this distance. Should be running on late. Watch for support. 12
8 PERCIUS *** Will enjoy being back on turf and this is his optimum trip. With Michael Rodd to ride should be running on. 4.00
9 KING OF THIEVES ** Showed improvement last start and better suited this trip. Will benefit from a positive ride from the good gate. 14
10 HAPPY JOY ** Improved by recent racing and ran on well last start over unsuitable distance. Suited here and could be handy throughout. 12
11 HOLY THOMAS * Fair effort 3 starts back on this surface but yet to place in 15 outings. 50
12 ZAHIR ** Put in a solid effort when resuming but has struggled since. Only win was at this trip and could improve for Manoel Nunes. 12
13 MARGAUX * Did not show up when resuming. Could go forward but 1600m may test. 33
14 BALKAN CHALLENGER * Yet to place in 20 outings. 33
Selections; 2 DARSHINI - 7 CHAIRMAN - 3 MR FATKID - 11 EL DON
Some good middle distance horses involved in what looks a strong race for a BM74 with European imports likely to dominate. DARSHINI is improving with racing and just missed in a higher-grade last start; he has been finding it hard to break through in Singapore but is suited by this distance and should be hard to hold out. CHAIRMAN has been consistent and won over this trip four starts back; he should get a good run throughout and be hard to pass late. MR FATKID is NZ-bred and his pedigree suggests this distance should suit. The 4YO disappointed last start but over-raced and got too far back; he can improve. There are plenty of other chances with EL DON down in the weights but relishing getting up in trip and SHOW FAR SHOW GOOD is in strong form and likely to go forward and give a sight. Keep DUKE OF NORMANDY safe and he may be value. Betting strategy - DARSHINI win, save on MR FATKID.
1 BLUE DANUBE * Getting down in ratings but has been disappointing and needs to improve on recent efforts. 33
2 DARSHINI *** Improving with racing and just missed in higher-grade last start. Could be hard to hold out. 3.50
3 MR FATKID *** Disappointed but had excuses last start when supported. First-up effort was strong and can improve with breeding suggesting trip should suit. 5.00
4 EXCELLENCY ** Yet to win in Singapore but was a Group winner over this trip in Ireland. Getting down in grade and could benefit from a positive ride. 10
5 MIGHTY EMPEROR * Better on poly and has always found this trip too far. 33
6 SHOW FAR SHOW GOOD ** Won easily last start. This is harder and stepping up in trip but claim helps and could be hard to run down. 8.00
7 CHAIRMAN *** Consistent and won over this trip four starts back. Should get a good run throughout and be hard to pass late. 5.00
8 DUKE OF NORMANDY *** Consistent and blinkers come off. Will find this harder but distance suits and should get a good run throughout. 14
9 KATE'S KEEPER ** Racing soundly in weaker company and has placed at this trip. Will benefit from a positive ride from the good gate. 20
10 BLACK SWAN * In good form in lower grade and distance suits but has found a strong race and wide draw doesn't help. 33
11 EL DON *** Has benefited from three outings since resuming and has won two of three at this trip. With no weight should be running on late. 8.00
12 HIGHER SOUL ** Versatile and better suited this trip than when winning over 1400m last start. Keep safe. 20
13 MATSURIBAYASHI * Eligible for much easier and being tried at the trip. 33
Selections; 1 DOUBLE CASH - 6 RORY - 2 STAY WITH ME - 4 BARNBURGH LAD
A group of moderate Class 5 sprinters over 1000m with most falling into the "speedy squib" category. DOUBLE CASH has been racing in higher grade. The 8YO will find this easier and despite the awkward gate has the speed to be prominent throughout with Oscar back on a factor. RORY is a Class 5 specialist at the journey having won seven times at 1000m and with Michael Rodd to ride from a good gate should be on the speed throughout. Of the rest, BARNBURGH LAD hasn't won for a while but is normally competitive and the 11YO COOL CAT is also rarely out of the money. Keep an eye on the market for the maiden STAY WITH ME, as he may be the improver at his first start in Class 5. Betting Strategy - Start the jackpot (quaddie) with 1, 2 and 6.
1 DOUBLE CASH *** Drops into Class 5 and despite awkward draw has the speed to be prominent for a long way. 4.00
2 STAY WITH ME ** Showed some speed before dropping out badly last start. Nunes stays on and may appreciate Class 5 and a good gate. 25
3 VOYAGER ** Resuming after breaking through over 1400m on turf last preparation. Trialled solidly. Watch for support. 16
4 BARNBURGH LAD ** Hasn't won for a while but normally competitive in these and will be prominent. 5.00
5 POP GEMS * Drops back in trip. Only wins have been at 1600m and beyond. Should find these too sharp. 33
6 RORY *** Has won seven times at this trip and with Michael Rodd to ride from a good gate should be prominent throughout. 4.00
7 COOL CAT ** 11YO who is rarely out of the money in these and will be running on. 5.00
8 GOLDEN COIN * Ran on late when resuming but easier to ignore. 20
9 MAGIC PAINT ** Returned not striding out freely last start. Placed on this surface three starts back and could show up if right. 10
10 FLYING MISSION * Has only battled since resuming. Preferred trip is 1200m but could be running on. 16
11 BONJOUR BOB * Has struggled since Maiden win but could be prominent from the good gate. 20
Selections; 7 LIM'S SAMURAI - 5 ARAMCO - 4 MR FANTASTIC - 9 FORTUNE WINNER
The Racing Guide Classic has lived up to its name in 2017 with some serious horses heading to the 1400m start. And given the Derby winner Infantry returned last Sunday with a Group 1 win, the runner-up on that occasion, LIM'S SAMURAI, looks a good thing in this feature. The Japanese-bred 4YO has only had 11 career starts but has been more than impressive winning four and finishing second another four times. And his Derby placing was a beauty and a nice recent trial suggests he will hard to hold out. His biggest danger is ARAMCO. The 5YO arrived from Australia with a good record and his four wins from nine starts in Singapore has only enhanced his reputation. He has drawn wide but John Powell will ride him 'cold' and he will be the testing material late. Others that can win include MR FANTASTIC and FORTUNE WINNER but the race has depth so go as wide as the budget permits in exotics. Betting Strategy - FORTUNE WINNER each-way. Box trifecta 4, 5, 7 and 9.
1 POSEIDON ** Did it tough last start in the Jumbo Jet and drawn badly again so take on trust. 20
2 BAHANA * Resuming. Gold Cup winner who will work into this late but should need longer, later. 20
3 BEST TOTHELIGN ** Hard to follow but runs on when in the mood and this race is suitable. 12
4 MR FANTASTIC *** Honest and form suggests he plays a very big part in this finish. 8.00
5 ARAMCO *** Very progressive 5YO who won't be fazed by wide gate with best work expected late. Big show. 4.00
6 AFFLECK ** Showing glimpses of late including at the trials and an include in exotics at value with blinkers off. 20
7 LIM'S SAMURAI *** Resuming after terrific Derby campaign and that Infantry form has been more than franked. Hard to beat. 2.50
8 THE GENERAL ** Rarely seen on the turf and never over 1400m but in form and could give a sight. 12
9 FORTUNE WINNER *** More than handy type who appreciates good first up run and can figure in this finish. 10
10 NEWLANDS * Will keep a few honest but like to see over longer. 33
11 FLAK JACKET * Tested this level and drawn wide but won well in Class 3 last start. 20
12 SANDTOP * Former Macau star who has had two quiet local trials so market only guide. 33
13 VIVIANO ** Nothing last start but could show up on best form in a race that should suit. 33
14 GOLDEN CURL *** In form and this race looks suitable to finish in the mix and may be value. 20
Selections; 4 O'WHAT A FEELING - 3 ETTIJAH - 5 BOARD WALK - 8 WHY NOT
Hopefully we can find some value in what looks a solid Class 4 Poly sprint with O'WHAT A FEELING first up after a spell. The 5YO has yet to win on the Poly or over this trip but he has shown enough in similar affairs to give this a shake on the back of what looked a nice and easy trial. ETTIJAH also trialled well on the same day as O'WHAT A FEELING and while he wins this without surprising, he will be very short in the betting and was disappointing with support last start. A solid each-way option is his stablemate, BOARD WALK, who is always value and gets his chance from gate 1 while WHY NOT will also be in the winning mix. Of the rest, a market watch is advised on the Peters pair of SEBASTIAN BACH and PEGASUS JUNIOR. Betting Strategy - O'WHAT A FEELING each-way.
1 LONGHU ** Form reads badly but Class 4 on the Poly suits so look for improvement. 20
2 OXBOW SUN ** Should need longer to show his best but gets blinkers added and look for very forward showing. 12
3 ETTIJAH *** Disappointing as favourite in similar affair last start but has trialled well since and gets another chance. 3.00
4 O'WHAT A FEELING *** Resuming. Handy type whose recent trial suggests he can win first up. 5.00
5 BOARD WALK *** Always and each-way show in races like this and could get the favours from gate 1. 6.00
6 SEBASTIAN BACH ** Appreciates solid Singapore debut and step up to 1200m but like to see some support before considering. 12
7 PEGASUS JUNIOR * Former Kiwi who should need longer but market watch in order. 33
8 WHY NOT *** Nothing last start but went close at only Poly run two starts back in this Company and have to respect. 8.00
9 SMART MASTER * Up in Class after solid win but has struggled recently in this Company. 20
10 GOLDEN SPARK * Appreciates better gate but another that needs Class 5. 33
11 PARKER ** Would love to see in Class 5 but has been running on well with no weight in similar affairs and pay to keep very safe. 10
12 DICAPRIO * Wide draw a concern and has changed stables so prefer to watch. 20
13 SPECIAL RAIN ** Might need easier to win but solid of late and always some show on the Poly. 12
14 SNIP ** Gets tongue-tie and another who has to be respected on the Poly. 20
Selections; 5 SKYWALK - 2 SIR ISAAC - 10 GARIZA - 6 SUPER FORTUNE
An absolute belter to finish what should have been a great days racing and you would imagine a frantic punting affair given how many serious winning hopes line up in the lucky last. Finding the favourite looks a tricky job in itself with SIR ISAAC and SUPER FORTUNE both supported heavily in similar affairs at their respective last starts and BAO SHAN MAGIC winning in this Company and trip. All three will get support and can all win but it may be SKYWALK resuming who trumps them all. The now 4YO was Group placed as a juvenile and finished a close-up fourth behind Countofmontecristo at 3YO Group level at his last start. A recent trial suggests he is ready to show his best and that could be good enough to win this. Keep GARIZO and DINGHU MOUNTAIN safe at value. Betting Strategy - SKYWALK win.
1 BAO SHAN MAGIC *** Former Kiwi who has hit the ground running in Singapore and looks a big show again. 5.00
2 SIR ISAAC *** All sorts of excuses (including not striding) when supported in similar affair last start and can make quick amends. 4.00
3 DINGHU MOUNTAIN *** Will find this easier than last start and drop to only winning trip in Singapore a good move. 12
4 KOLOMBIA ** Nothing last start on the Poly but better suited on the turf and cheeky run expected. 33
5 SKYWALK *** Resuming after a close up run in the 3YO Sprint and has won in this Company. Hard to beat off the back of a good trial. 4.00
6 SUPER FORTUNE *** Hard to fault form since arriving from Australia and won similar affair two starts back so a big show. 6.00
7 CRAZY TIMES * Struggling. 200
8 IVANHOE ** Improved to win in Class 4 first-up after a spell but this is tougher. 12
9 ANCIENT WARRIOR * Not a mile away last start but needs to find a few lengths in this good field. 33
10 GARIZA *** Did it tough last start and happy to think he is up to winning in this Company. Value. 12
11 HERO I AM ** Resuming sans blinkers and worth including in exotics at odds. 33
12 MORITZ ECLIPSE ** Too honest to leave out completely but should need easier to win. 12
