Approaching the finishing line, MY HONEY and PADDINGTON made contact.
S Clipperton (GRADE ONE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 350 Metres he directed his mount out around the heels of NONE OTHER and in so doing bumped MULTIMAX which resulted in that horse becoming unbalanced, shifting out and bumping the hindquarters of FLYING NOBLE which in turn became unbalanced and then lay in despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in MULTIMAX being severely checked when buffeted for room between GRADE ONE and FLYING NOBLE. In this incident, GRADE ONE also became unbalanced due to making contact with MULTIMAX on several occasions. S Clipperton was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 18 October 2017 and to expire on Monday, 23 October 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, S Clipperton was fined $15,000.

Passing the 600 Metres, GORGEOUS KING and ENSURING raced tight for a short distance and made contact.
Approaching the 100 Metres, GORGEOUS KING shifted in abruptly under pressure.
In the Straight , JOLLY GENE lay in under pressure.
When questioned, Z Purton (GORGEOUS AGAIN) stated that when GORGEOUS KING shifted away from the rail approaching the Home Turn, he was able to make up ground quickly on GORGEOUS AGAIN to be positioned behind the leading trio MIGHTY BOY, JOLLY GENE and SERGEANT TITANIUM. He said on the Home Turn he noticed that MIGHTY BOY was under pressure, had commenced to lay out and shifted away from the rail. He said as there were three leaders racing on terms and GORGEOUS KING was racing to his outside, he felt that there were no other opportunities to improve and as he felt that MIGHTY BOY was likely to shift out further when placed under pressure in the early part of the Straight, he positioned GORGEOUS AGAIN to the inside of the heels of MIGHTY BOY to take advantage of that run. He said passing the 400 Metres MIGHTY BOY initially maintained its line, however, he felt that he was still in a position to obtain a run on the inside of that horse, but when MIGHTY BOY shifted in marginally approaching the 300 Metres, he was obliged to check GORGEOUS AGAIN and shift out to continue improving.
A veterinary inspection of XINJIANG YARN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GORGEOUS AGAIN, GORGEOUS KING and HO HO FEEL were sent for sampling.
Race: 3 (075) CHENGDU HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

When the pace slackened near the 1000 Metres, EASTERN PROWESS got its head up and raced ungenerously for some distance when being checked away from the heels of FORTUNATE RUNNER.
FORTUNATE RUNNER, which was inclined to race greenly when placed under pressure in the Straight, was awkwardly placed inside the heels of NOBLE DE LOVE which shifted in marginally passing the 100 Metres.
S Clipperton advised that he was instructed to ride LAUGH OUT LOUD more patiently today and the horse consequently settled behind midfield. He said however that when placed under pressure on straightening LAUGH OUT LOUD showed no response and as the horse did not feel comfortable in its action, he did not test it fully over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of LAUGH OUT LOUD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, N Rawiller stated that GOOD DAYS travelled comfortably in a trailing position behind the favourite A BEAUTIFUL in the early and middle stages. He said approaching the 600 Metres he elected to take the initiative and make ground around A BEAUTIFUL and have his mount at full momentum rounding the Home Turn. He said however that after being shifted out from behind A BEAUTIFUL and placed under pressure, GOOD DAYS showed no response and, in his view, raced "flat”. A veterinary inspection of GOOD DAYS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A BEAUTIFUL and VICTORY MASTER were sent for sampling.
Race: 5 (077) SHENYANG HANDICAP Class 4 1600 m
PLAY IT began awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
ENORMOUS HONOUR shifted out at the start and made contact with the hindquarters of DRAGON DANCE. ENORMOUS HONOUR raced wide and without cover from the 1000 Metres.
Rounding the Home Turn, LITTLE FANTASY raced in restricted room between ENORMOUS HONOUR and TRIUMPHANT LIGHT which was inclined to lay out.
From the entrance to the Straight until approaching the 200 Metres, PLAY IT had difficulty obtaining clear running.
Passing the 400 Metres, THE SHOW and FIRST FONTEIN bumped, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
Passing the 200 Metres, MORETHANLUCKY was struck across the nose by the whip of Apprentice H N Wong (ENORMOUS HONOUR).
After leaving the 100 Metres, MORETHANLUCKY shifted out under pressure, inconveniencing ENORMOUS HONOUR.
C Y Ho, the rider of the winner, WIN FOR CHARITY, was spoken to concerning his having made a celebratory gesture prior to the finishing line and failing to ride his mount out to the winning post given the winning margin of a short head.
When questioned, D Whyte stated that he was instructed to ride THE SHOW in a relatively prominent position behind the speed, however, after beginning well, THE SHOW did not show the anticipated early speed despite being hard ridden for the first 100 Metres. He said this resulted in THE SHOW settling further back in the field than was intended. He said when the pace of the race quickened from the 600 Metres, THE SHOW immediately came off the bridle and then did not respond to his riding and was very disappointing. A veterinary inspection of THE SHOW immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of FIRST FONTEIN immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, FIRST FONTEIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of TRIUMPHANT LIGHT immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, TRIUMPHANT LIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
WIN FOR CHARITY and MORETHANLUCKY were sent for sampling.

PRIMERO was held up for clear running from the entrance to the Straight until the 300 Metres.
Throughout the race, SUPER JUNIOR travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of STARSHIP, K Teetan stated that STARSHIP was expected to perform well after trialing well recently. He said he was advised to let the horse take up a position which would be expected to be at the back half of the field. He said STARSHIP settled near the rear of the field, however, when placed under pressure in the Straight did not respond and failed to close off the race as anticipated. A veterinary inspection of STARSHIP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of MONEY BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
JING JING WIN and BRAVO WATCHMAN were sent for sampling.
Race: 7 (079) THE NATIONAL DAY CUP (HANDICAP) Group Three 1000 m
JETWINGS proved very difficult to load. Then as the start was effected, JETWINGS began very awkwardly, bumped heavily with the outside of its barrier and lost a considerable amount of ground. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on JETWINGS at the request of Trainer R Gibson. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, JETWINGS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
On jumping, DASHING FELLOW was crowded for room between MR STUNNING which shifted out and PENIAPHOBIA which shifted in after beginning awkwardly.
STRATHMORE jumped out at the start and made contact with MAGIC LEGEND.
D B PIN and AMAZING KIDS began only fairly.

Approaching the 50 Metres, AMAZING KIDS was directed to the inside of the heels of FABULOUS ONE to continue improving its position.
D B PIN, DASHING FELLOW and NOT LISTENIN’TOME were sent for sampling.
Race: 8 (080) THE CELEBRATION CUP (HANDICAP) Group Three 1400 m
Upon entering the track, Apprentice H N Wong was dislodged from NEW ASIA SUNRISE which galloped only a short distance before being recaptured. On arrival at the barriers, NEW ASIA SUNRISE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who reported that the horse was fit to start. Apprentice Wong was cleared by the Club’s Racing Medical Officer to fulfil his ride on NEW ASIA SUNRISE. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that NEW ASIA SUNRISE had sustained a small overreach wound to the inside of the left front heel.
SEASONS BLOOM had its left front plate refitted behind the barriers. SEASONS BLOOM was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start.
WINNER’S WAY began awkwardly, shifted in soon after the start and bumped HARBOUR MASTER.
WESTERN EXPRESS began only fairly.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, BOOMING DELIGHT was shifted out away from the heels of CONTENTMENT.
At the entrance to the Straight, SEASONS BLOOM was shifted to the inside of the heels of TIME WARP to obtain clear running.
When attempting to establish clear running to the outside of CONTENTMENT in the early part of the Straight, WESTERN EXPRESS became very awkward on the heels of CONTENTMENT when that horse shifted out away from NEW ASIA SUNRISE which shifted out approaching the 250 Metres. ROMANTIC TOUCH, which was racing to the outside of the heels of WESTERN EXPRESS, was inconvenienced as a consequence.
Approaching the 200 Metres, EAGLE WAY was directed out away from the heels of TIME WARP which shifted out under pressure before being straightened by its rider.
Passing the 50 Metres, NEW ASIA SUNRISE was inconvenienced by EAGLE WAY which shifted out away from TIME WARP.
GIANT TREASURE and BOOMING DELIGHT travelled wide and without cover for the majority of the race.
When questioned regarding the instructions he was given and his riding of TIME WARP in the early stages, K C Ng stated that he was given two sets of instructions which were if the horse began well and was able to lead without being pressured, he was free to do so, however, if another runner was to show superior speed, he should assume the box seat. He said it was anticipated that the stablemate WINNER’S WAY may show superior speed to TIME WARP, however, he reiterated that he had the option of either leading or taking the box seat on his mount. He said after beginning reasonably, he rode TIME WARP positively from the barriers, however, in the initial stages NEW ASIA SUNRISE, which was racing to the outside of TIME WARP, showed superior pace and after riding his mount along for the first 100 Metres, he decided to allow TIME WARP to roll along comfortably at its own speed without steadying the horse. He said in accordance with his instructions he was happy to take up a position behind the leader on TIME WARP. The Stewards questioned Mr A S Cruz, the trainer of TIME WARP, who confirmed that he had given Jockey Ng the option of leading or taking a position on the speed, depending on the circumstances in the early stages of the race. He said he felt that TIME WARP may have been outpaced over the 1400 Metres of today’s race as it had generally led over 1600 Metres and 1800 Metres previously. When questioned as to the instructions he issued to D Whyte, the rider of the stablemate WINNER’S WAY, Mr Cruz advised that he issued identical instructions to Jockey Whyte in that he had the option to lead if the horse showed sufficient pace, but also to take up a prominent position near the speed if the horse was not able to lead. When questioned, D Whyte confirmed those instructions, but advised the Stewards that his mount did not show sufficient speed to lead BEAUTY GENERATION which showed superior pace from an outside barrier.
The Stewards also questioned K C Ng regarding his riding of TIME WARP in the Straight, in particular the reason he persevered to shift to the outside of WINNER’S WAY when a run became available to the inside of that horse soon after straightening. He explained that on the Home Turn he was following the eventual winner BEAUTY GENERATION and as the horse was an outsider he felt that the best option was to shift out and initially follow WINNER’S WAY and then come to the outside of that horse. He said in the early part of the Straight, despite his endeavours to shift TIME WARP out, that horse got its head on the side, hung in and was reluctant to come to the outside of WINNER’S WAY. He added whilst WINNER’S WAY ultimately shifted out near the 300 Metres and presented running to its inside, he felt that he was committed to come to the outside of WINNER’S WAY at this stage. He said after being directed to the outside of WINNER’S WAY and placed under pressure, TIME WARP closed off the race well. K C Ng was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he was advised to keep his options open in a race and to take advantageous runs as they become available.
When questioned, K Teetan stated that with the slow tempo in the middle stages and with the race developing into a sprint home, WESTERN EXPRESS was not suited and this, in his view, was the reason for the horse’s performance which may have appeared to be disappointing on face value. A veterinary inspection of WESTERN EXPRESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BEAUTY GENERATION and SEASONS BLOOM were sent for sampling.
Race: 9 (081) TIANJIN HANDICAP Class 3 1400 m
After entering the barriers, LOADED sat back on the gates and momentarily got down. LOADED was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was suitable to race.
WHO DAT SINGA began awkwardly.
From wide barriers, LOADED and INVINCIBLE FRESH were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
At the 1100 Metres, WHO DAT SINGA was steadied away from the heels of EXPERTO CREDE (T Berry) which shifted in when not quite clear. T Berry was advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground. During this incident, EXPERTO CREDE lost its right hind plate.
Soon after straightening, APOLLO’S CHOICE momentarily raced tight inside CALCULATION which shifted in before being corrected by its rider.
U Rispoli (INVINCIBLE FRESH) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting in across the rightful running of FRIENDS OF NANJING which was checked. U Rispoli was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Saturday, 14 October 2017 and to expire on Thursday, 19 October 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Rispoli’s good race riding record.
Inside the 50 Metres, MIGHTY MAVERICK was hampered and directed out away from the heels of WHO DAT SINGA (K Teetan) which shifted out marginally after being disappointed for a run between HARD BALL GET and EXPERTO CREDE. K Teetan was advised to exercise more care.
Over the concluding stages, DARING FIT was inclined to lay out under pressure.
Throughout the race, CALCULATION travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
When questioned, N Rawiller stated that he had ridden SKY KING in a recent barrier trial which, in his view, was quite satisfactory. He said, unlike at the trial, SKY KING became very nervous and commenced to sweat up profusely behind the barriers prior to being loaded. He said after beginning only fairly SKY KING raced in a lethargic manner in the early stages and the further the race went, the further his mount became detached from the field. He said approaching the first turn he continued to ride SKY KING along including using the whip, however, the horse’s action deteriorated and as he had concerns with SKY KING’S welfare, he retired it from the race in the middle stages. A veterinary inspection of SKY KING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. As SKY KING had been required to trial satisfactorily following its most start on 6 September 2017, the Stewards ruled that the horse must perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
RELENTLESS ME, APOLLO’S CHOICE and INVINCIBLE FRESH were sent for sampling.
Race: 10 (082) BEIJING HANDICAP Class 2 1200 m
On arrival at the Start, the tongue tie applied to HOUSE OF FUN was refitted.
From wide barriers, ANDOYAS, SOUTHERN LEGEND and KEY WITNESS were steadied in the early stages and shifted across to obtain cover.
When being steadied from the barriers, LINE SEEKER shifted out and bumped HIGH FIVE.
On the first turn near the 850 Metres, JUMBO LUCK momentarily raced in restricted room inside PINGWU SPARK which was taken in slightly by SHAMAL. A short distance later, when PINGWU SPARK was steadied, HARD PROMISE was checked away from the heels of that horse and shifted out.
PABLOSKY travelled wide and without cover from the 800 Metres.
LINE SEEKER travelled keenly in the middle stages.
K C Leung (PINGWU SPARK) dropped his whip after leaving 200 Metres.
PINGWU SPARK shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding his riding of LINE SEEKER from the entrance to the Straight until near the 200 Metres, Apprentice M F Poon stated that rounding the Home Turn he had the opportunity to shift out and to follow SOUTHERN LEGEND which he felt was an ideal horse to take his mount into the race. He said therefore on straightening with HIGH FIVE racing to his outside, he continued to follow SOUTHERN LEGEND as that horse commenced to improve and it was not until inside the 300 Metres that he was able to direct LINE SEEKER out around the heels of SOUTHERN LEGEND albeit he was still at least two lengths adrift of SOUTHERN LEGEND at that point. He added he then commenced to place LINE SEEKER under more pressure and attempted to draw his whip from his left hand through to his right hand approaching the 200 Metres, however, it was at this stage that his whip became entangled in his reins and he took some distance to get his whip out and in the process he briefly lost control of LINE SEEKER which shifted out and hampered the runner to his outside HIGH FIVE. He said after being corrected and when he was able to pull the whip, LINE SEEKER closed off the race steadily. After being questioned in depth about his tactics, Apprentice Poon acknowledged that, in retrospect, it was available for him to have ridden LINE SEEKER with more urgency and to take up a closer position to SOUTHERN LEGEND in the early part of the Straight prior to shifting out near the 250 Metres. Apprentice Poon was severely reprimanded regarding his lack of judgement in the early part of the Straight. He was also advised that his riding of LINE SEEKER, particularly the lack of control of his mount when endeavouring to pull his whip through to his right hand, had come under notice. He was told to ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner so that his tactics are not open to query.
A veterinary inspection of HOUSE OF FUN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PINGWU SPARK and SOUTHERN LEGEND were sent for sampling.
After the running of Race 7, the track classification was officially changed from "Good” to "Good to Yielding”. This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective. As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 7 being run on a track rated "Good to Yielding”.
